How often are you complimented on your looks

In particular by people you've just met. Have been out with a very attractive friend tonight who has had men fawning over her/complimenting her whilst I was just ignored as usual. I'm probably a 5 but I don't think my physical appearance has ever been complimented by a stranger. Feeling a bit crap. Does this happen to other people?

Never. I am the type that everyone over look, it is like I don't exist.

Totally relate. People look through me not at me. Some days I wonder if I’ve actually died at some point and am now a ghost.

Never. Been told how fat and ugly I am plenty of times though, by both strangers and friends/family/colleagues. I know, so I don’t see why they feel the need to say it.

my favourite was on holiday with some friends, an Italian man was chatting to me while the rest of the group were at the bar. When they returned, he left and one of my “friends” turned and said “you know that’s a scam don’t you? Check your pockets. They always deliberately target the ugliest women they can find as they’re so desperate to believe they’re being chatted up.”

And a colleague, who said “you remind me of a friend of mine, who was so disgustingly fat her boss had to call her into a meeting to tell her she was a health and safety risk by blocking the corridors”

In my teens, twenties and thirties, very frequently. Now mid fifties - never. I have to say I much prefer being ignored. I love the invisability that age has brought. I can relax, knowing no ones looking anymore.I've been in a relationship since 21. Maybe I'd feel differently if single. I doubt it though.

This sums up my thoughts exactly.

I’m mid 50s and used to get a lot of attention when I was younger. I hated it and then felt pressured to always try and look my best, as I wasn’t that confident.

I am far more confident now than I was back then, even though the attention has stopped, it’s great. DH will still compliment me and DS often says he can’t believe I’m mid 50s (usually when he wants something 🤨) but I’ll take it.

Fairly often. Slowed down now that I'm older. It's not that great. Mostly really awkward and uncomfortable. People, including women, do treat you better. However it's not always good interactions. I had a guy tell me once he understood why someone groped me, and it was because I was hot...so there's that.

TwistedWonder · 26/02/2025 06:16

I get complimented all the time by other women that I look great, love my outfit, style etc but never ever get comments from men.

Been that way all my life. Other women appreciate how I look far more than men do.

User37482 · 26/02/2025 06:19

Never, but women are always really nice about my hair

Member869894 · 26/02/2025 06:37

Now I'm 60, never. It's like being invisible but thats just life i suppose.I used to get complimented all the time . My dp tells me I'm gorgeous every day and that matters to me

User7288339 · 26/02/2025 09:04

Never, but then I've been a bit overweight since I was a teenager. Size 16-18 so not massive but back in the 90s/2000s it seemed like it was. Although thinking about it, when I lost a lot of weight in my 20s I still never got chatted up! Was engaged/married though so would like to think that's why 😆

It's very character building!

the80sweregreat · 26/02/2025 09:26

Never. Although Ds2 said my hair looked nice the other day , but I had just washed it
I'm the older invisible woman these days ( not that I was that visible in the old days either !)

RufustheFactuaIReindeer · 26/02/2025 09:29

occasionally I get compliments on my hair from random strangers and also get told i look like jamie leigh curtis

last person who said the jamie lee Curtis bit was a customs officer at the airport last year

so quite happy with that

troppibambini6 · 26/02/2025 09:56

A lot when I was younger. Sometimes when I'm on a night out usually by someone to drink to see straight. Never by dh.

Disturbia81 · 27/02/2025 11:23

More as I get older in my 40s

FastFood · 27/02/2025 11:42

Strangers? Barely ever. That'd be weird.
Most of the time it's more to do with my fashion sense than my face.

From friends and family, fairly often, but we all give each other compliments, i'm not special here.

I'd say I'm a 6 with a good figure and a sense of style and personality that probably propels me in 8 territory, within my age bracket. I'm more successful with women in general.

Speckyfourfries · 27/02/2025 12:39

Probably 20 odd years ago when I was thinner, blonder and much less troll like

User19876536484 · 27/02/2025 12:42

Quite often. By men and women.

beadystar · 27/02/2025 12:49

Sometimes. More often when I was younger. It's mostly by very charming old men, or youngish female tourists to whom red hair is exotic.

ThatMerryReader · 27/02/2025 12:49

All the time as I take care of myself and look much younger.

Ooh careful. MN hive mind thinks no one on earth could possibly look younger than they are

It’s clearly delusional a lot of the time.

Londonrach1 · 27/02/2025 13:13

Daily at work...I work with patients with dementia and 30 years younger than that men I treat...I know they don't mean it. In life rarely apart from husband. That's the only person who matters. I don't wear makeup and wear comfortable clothes so live in jeans
