Radical Feminsts

AIBU in noticing a increase in radical feminism on MN?

I'm not talking regular old feminism where equal rights are the goal, I'm sure we can all agree on that being important.

But there is a level of extremism emerging that goes from dizzying entitlement to outright man hating.

What gives?

Anyway I'm really intrigued (not really) as to the chain of mental events that led OP to believe that the statements they posted as examples of Rad Fem are, well, examples of Rad Fem....

TheShellBeach · 19/04/2024 17:01

I'm wondering if caramilk is like caramac?

Does anyone know?

I imagine the thought process went...

"Women are saying unkind things about men, they must be those bloody feminists. And, they're being super extremely mean, so they must be radical feminists too, the meanies".

Something like that, I reckon.

Maybe.

But he called us "feminsts"and that's a word which is unfamiliar to me.

Examples of man hating on MN:

'I don't like men either, and I find this quite hard to reconcile with my conscience, because I have a son who I adore, and I'd cut off any man that said he "didn't like women" - it would be the biggest red flag ever to me, so I don't know why I hate sexism so much but am fine with Misandry'

'They're only any good for shagging really. Warmer than a vibrator. I prefer the company of women, prefer working with women, and most definitely prefer living with women.'

'I don’t like men, even though I’m married to one. I find them pathetically base, like they’re somehow less evolved than us. I don’t like feeling that way, because I know it’s not quite fair, especially now that I have a son, but I don’t know how to overcome it.AllI can do is try not to show it.'

More to follow, I'm just nipping out.

Any form of feminism that is moderated to protect men's feelings isn't really feminism, though, is it?

I don't think feminism that recognises the harm men cause is particularly radical?

Labourarepartoftheproblem · 19/04/2024 17:14

There have been a lot of suspicious threads lately... Like many of them, I suspect you are a man, OP. If I know one thing about the mumsnetters, they're a savvy bunch able to sniff out bullshit like bloodhounds 😂

But, on the offchance you are asking a genuine question, the examples you quoted are really nothing to do with feminism, extreme or otherwise. They just seem like people who've had bad experiences which are now negatively colouring their opinions. Feminism is hard to define but it's not what you think it is.

Oh dear.

I like Smarties better than Topics and Twixes.

100%. Smarties aren’t ideal but there are quite a few of them. So they last marginally longer. Apart from when I tip the tube into my mouth, and they all come out at once. Still, that is satisfying in its own way.

Not when one accidentally goes down the larynx, though.
🤣

Yes. Extra fun when done with the giant tubes one gets in their Christmas stockings. Smarties in the mouth, smarties in the eyes, smarties in the ears and down the cleavage… take your bra off at the end of the day and discover it’s full of smarties!

Edited to add that I think I’ve just had a feminist related revelation- I can’t get on board with the bra burning because nothing beats taking your bra off after a night out to discover you had shoved a tenner and a fag down there earlier and now you have one last smoke and breakfast money!

ghostyslovesheets · 19/04/2024 17:24

I hope you eat them before you burn the bra!

Begsthequestion · 19/04/2024 16:34

Ok.

Hopefully people reading this will look into it properly and see what I mean.

Yeah, we know just what you mean.

To a nicety.

therealcookiemonster · 19/04/2024 16:48

i often eat a yorkie bar, does that make me a radical feminist?

I also may have given the man who looked young enough to still be in utero the sorry shrug for trying to mansplain my car repairs to me the other day.

take me away in chains.....

No. I think that clearly makes you a Truck Driver.

Ooh.

Can a Rad Fem be a truck driver, or is that only for men?

TheShellBeach · 19/04/2024 17:26

I've actually found Smarties in my bra before now.

Well @Begsthequestion thinks not.

maddening · 19/04/2024 17:27

Yabu, radical feminism is a pretty specific movement.
Also yabu as the idea of what is extremist thinking (as per the thought and speech police) has shifted - you are extremist now for thinking a woman does not have a penis.

nothingcomestonothing · 19/04/2024 17:27

This you, OP?

No - but she said she was a woman so she must be.

It’s just the temperature for softening them to perfect squidgy in the middleness.

CookieCrumbles23 · 19/04/2024 17:40

Does anyone else wonder if the OP thought, in her absence, the ‘man-hating’ would explode on this thread? She could then come back and say “See! This is what I’m talking about!”.

Must be pretty disappointing that instead the chat has shifted to melted bra chocolate and truck driving aspirations.

Radical feminism in action!!!

BabbityBumble · 19/04/2024 18:02

In the nineties Yorkie was specifically not for girls. Has that changed and can feminists have them now?

Guessing op forgot the bags for life and is having to precariously balance our snacks across the car park.

Either that or op is a flake. (Or 99s as they were known in my day before col crisis!)

ThreeFeetTall · 19/04/2024 18:05

Has anyone good any good radical feminism book recommendations?
