AIBU in noticing a increase in radical feminism on MN?

I'm not talking regular old feminism where equal rights are the goal, I'm sure we can all agree on that being important.

But there is a level of extremism emerging that goes from dizzying entitlement to outright man hating.

What gives?

And those so called examples are wonderfully out of context. Of course they would be.

Deadringer · 19/04/2024 16:13

You don't have to be a feminist to hate men. There are many, many reasons to hate and fear men, specially men who are violent abusers and rapists. It is also very easy to have a strong dislike of entitled, selfish, over-confident man babies, and be generally just sick of their shit. You don't have to be a feminist to know that violent crime, sexual crimes and even acts of war and terrorism would be decimated without men to commit them. Hating men has nothing to do with feminism and has everything to do with the despicable stuff that so many men seem capable of.

YANBU, it's been like that for a while now

Prime example:

And BTW 'equality' would be us killing 2-3 men a week

Prime example of what, facts?

Urgh. Agreed. However. I raise the Wispa Gold. Topic. Who tf ever wants a Topic bar.

Yes, it's terrible that women call men out on their violence.

I fucking love a Wispa Gold.

AccidentallyWesAnderson · 19/04/2024 16:26

Can you still buy Wispa Golds?

Begsthequestion · 19/04/2024 16:27

Radical feminism was big in the 80s and now seems rather conservative imo. Gender essentialism, anti trans, the idea that piv sex is always oppressive and kinks require psychological treatment, often denying their real hetero sexuality and promoting political lesbianism instead (while sleeping with "their Nigel" on the down low..) Plus the negation of class or other economic factors in their analysis of women's oppression, so it only served the interests of middle class women who then blamed men wholly as a class for patriarchal oppression. They also worked with anti-abortion Christians against porn, which seemed like the most short sighted and off-putting alliance you could imagine.

I do see a lot of inclinations towards radical feminism on MN but not really in real life.

Screamingabdabz · 19/04/2024 16:29

I love lovely men. And there are lots of them out there. Loads in my family and friendship group.

I am still a raging feminist though. I’ve shouted at one entitled prick just today at lunch time - mindlessly blocking the pavement with his big blokey car.

Does raging mean radical? If so that’s me. And I’m raising my dds (and my DS for that matter) the same (to appreciate the lovelies not the Tate-acolytes) so yes, if there is a proliferation of rad fems, it means we are spreading the word, making scales fall from eyes and passing it on to the next generation. Thank fuck.

I was going to respond with a point by point counter to this post, but then decided it wasn't worth my time. Suffice it to say that this is a total misrepresentation of what radical feminism was and is, no doubt there is an agenda at play here. "Anti trans" being the biggest clue.

I got to anti-trans and laughed and stopped reading.

No, radical feminism is a specific strain of feminism with its own beliefs. It doesn't just mean "very feminist".

muggart · 19/04/2024 16:33

I do sometimes see anti male sentiment on here, but ive never seen it dressed up as feminism.

I would add, the anti male sentiment is nothing compared to the misogyny I see on Twitter.

Yes! My friend bought a whole box for her (cough bloke cough) for his birthday.

Which actually adds fuel to the fire I think- bloody men eating all the good chocolate bars!

Yes, it's terrible that women call men out on their violence.

Especially when those Men identify as trans women.

Tut tut ladies, we should know our place.

So the people who want to defend radfeminism can't actually bring themselves to do it. Interesting.
