To be annoyed I was accused of recording in cinema

Yes I was my phone for a short while as I had received an important email. I think if most of been when they came in to do the checks as she looked toward me then the team leader came in and told me to put my phone away. Aibu to think surely they can tell the difference between a person using their phone and recording and it’s a pretty big to accuse someone of it

It's rude to be on your phone in the cinema.

Also it can't have been that quick, if you were still on your phone when the supervisor turned up.

Twistingskies · 16/04/2024 23:24

who accused you? You just wrote that they told you to put your phone away.

Topofthemountain · 16/04/2024 23:24

Were you actually accused of recording or just told to put your phone away?

NailsHairNipsHeels · 16/04/2024 23:25

Were you accused of filming or asked to put your phone away? There's a pretty big difference.
People using their phone in the cinema is distracting for others

TippledPink · 16/04/2024 23:25

You should leave the theatre if you want to check your phone. It ruins the film for everyone else having to see your phone lit up. So entitled.

This.

LittleMousewithcloggson · 16/04/2024 23:26

Can’t stand people who think it’s acceptable to use a phone in the cinema, it distracts everyone near by as the phone screen can be seen.
Surely someone can go a couple of hours without checking emails or messages.
If you can’t then stay at home

Important email, my arse. You shouldn't have been on your phone.

When they accused you - what did you say and how did they take it

IMO, phone when the mives on should not be used/checked etc especially "emails" as the light up the area and distract other peoples enjoyment

qwertyqwertyqwertyqwerty · 16/04/2024 23:26

You were in the wrong, they were doing their job.

If you're a brain surgeon on call, don't go to the cinema. Otherwise, switch it off.

SabreIsMyFave · 16/04/2024 23:26

YABVVVU to be on your phone checking a 'terribly important email,' when you are in the cinema during a film! Hmm I think they should have thrown you out frankly.

Also, they quite rightly told you to put your phone away, but when did the accusations of recording anything happen? Confused

Important email, my arse. You shouldn't have been on your phone.

Give the op the benefit of the doubt - it could have been "important"

AtrociousCircumstance · 16/04/2024 23:28

It was probably nothing to do with accusations of recording. The light from people’s phones is a distraction when you’re trying to watch a film in the cinema.

QuizzlyBears · 16/04/2024 23:28

If you were expecting an important email then you shouldn’t have gone to a place like the cinema. You’re the unreasonable one here!

No it wasn't. As a pp said, if she had been expecting something TERRIBLY important via email, she would not have gone into the cinema to see a film!

And why was she even LOOKING at her bloody 'emails' during the film?! Phone should have been on DND. Disgustingly bad manners. OP should have been thrown out of the film!

EveryoneJapan · 16/04/2024 23:29

Using your phone in the cinema or theatre is completely unreasonable. If you need to be contacted at short notice or are expecting urgent / important contact, don’t go. I’m amazed by people who can’t sit for 2-3 hours without checking their bloody phone.

Akamai · 16/04/2024 23:30

It’s not about recording the movie, it’s about the light from your phone fucking up the movie experience for everyone around you! No one gives a fuck about your important email. You probably also sing along at the theatre!

I’ve noticed people are so selfish now with their mobiles, talking (not even whispering) and constant food rustling.

OP, do everyone a favour and rent the movie at home.

Edited

So why was the OP not thrown out as you put it

dottiedodah · 16/04/2024 23:31

Our local theatres request phones turned off .for a couple of hours what's the deal

Because you get a warning first.

Benefit of the doubt? There's no doubt.
She wouldn't have known she had an email, important or otherwise if she hadn't been on her phone in the first place.
If she was anxiously awaiting an email, she shouldn't have been in a cinema annoying everyone around her.

How the F am I supposed to know? Confused

HoHoHoliday · 16/04/2024 23:34

General rule of good communication - if something is that important it should be a phone call and not an email.
That aside, was your email so important that it couldn't wait two hours to be read and replied to? If yes, then you shouldn't have gone to the cinema. If no, then you shouldn't have been on your phone in the cinema.
Well done to the staff for pulling you up on it.
It's so annoying for the other viewers.

PaulAnkaTheDoggo · 16/04/2024 23:34

Please dinnae be the dick with your phone out in the cinema. If an email is that urgent, don’t buy a ticket.

BananaLambo · 16/04/2024 23:36

Turn your phone off. Just turn your phone off. It is the height of rudeness to be reading it during a movie. If you must wait for an ‘important email’ then wait for it outside.
