To be annoyed I was accused of recording in cinema

Welcometonewyork · 16/04/2024 23:21

Yes I was my phone for a short while as I had received an important email. I think if most of been when they came in to do the checks as she looked toward me then the team leader came in and told me to put my phone away. Aibu to think surely they can tell the difference between a person using their phone and recording and it’s a pretty big to accuse someone of it

OP posts:

I don't think I've ever seen a post on MN where the first 90+ posts are all in compelte agreement! Will this be enough for OP to realise that she is firmly in the wrong here, or will she be back with a "yes, but..." which will then prompt another deluge of posts telling her she's wrong!

The last post about someone using their phone in the cinema and being told off (by a 12 year old) got the same

And then everyone was accused of "piling on" and "bullying" the OP

Sandwichblock · 17/04/2024 08:57

It doesn't sound like you were accused of anything, just asked to put your phone away.

Good for them. It can't have been quick if you were still using it when the supervisor came. Don't go to the pictures if you need to deal with emails.

Thickandquick · 17/04/2024 08:59

Another entitled individual who feels they are more important than everyone else.

thinkfast · 17/04/2024 09:08

You should leave the movie if you want to check your phone. It's not fair on everyone else who's paid to watch it.

ThisHumanBean · 17/04/2024 09:15

If you were expecting an email THAT important that you had to instantly read or reply, then you shouldnt have been in the cinema.

Cinema is a shared experience and you were inconsiderate.

KreedKafer · 17/04/2024 09:17

If this is a genuine post, my guess is that OP was gawping at her phone for ages, it was disturbing other people, and the attendant told her to turn it off, at which the OP said “But I’m checking my important email” and the attendant then explained “Sorry, we can’t allow phones to be on in case people use them to record the film.”

However, even if the attendant said “Turn your phone off or get out, you film-pirating arsehole” the OP would still be entirely in the wrong, so it’s a moot point.

Don’t look at your phone at the cinema. It’s twatty.

RedMark · 17/04/2024 09:18

Your important email will still be there after the movie... Imagine how people used to hear news...waiting for letters!
It's so annoying when people go on their phone in the cinema.

This.

This. Rude and entitled.

VJBR · 17/04/2024 10:17

So bloody rude to be on your phone in the cinema. Annoying for other people with the screen lit up. If emails are that important then stay home. It is a joke that people can't go for an hour or two without having to constantly check their emails. Can't think how we all survived before smart phones.

DistinguishedSocialCommentator · 17/04/2024 10:29

VestibuleVirgin · 17/04/2024 06:34

Then she should not go into such a place until until all her 'important' emails are delivered

ok, fair enough. You get that OP?

EpicAlice · 17/04/2024 10:36

So sick of the rude, entitled behaviour from arseholes who think they can do what they want and everyone else has to put up and shut up.

Good on the cinema staff. I wish they would come in more often and check in our local one, some tosser always gets their phone out at some point, taking your attention away from the screen as their dazzling phone screen blinks at you from several rows away.

SabreIsMyFave · 17/04/2024 10:36

OP never came back. Colour me shocked.

"the evidence proved the defense contention that Oulson, before being shot, threw his cellphone at Reeves, striking him in the face, then appeared ready to climb over the seats and attack."

The jury believed this version of events.

Is it legal to have a gun in a public place in Florida? I despair.

You were in the wrong, own up and accept that like an adult instead of trying to make out others are in the wrong. You sound like a petulant child.

I work in a cinema. People (men) regularly try to record steamy bits of films and we need to know so we can kick them out and ban them. You should not be using your phone during a film ever, its incredibly annoying to everyone else, even fitbits and smartwatches flashing every time you move your wrist are enough to drive the person next to you potty. I'd have kicked you out sorry.

What on earth?? Do these men not know how to find porn on the internet?
That is a whole new level of inept men 😂

FurQuenelle · 17/04/2024 10:56

Nobody "accused" you of anything.

They asked you to put your phone away in the cinema.

Good for them.

CatMum27 · 17/04/2024 10:56

Once had someone give me a similar excuse when I asked them to put their phone away in the cinema. They were waiting for an important message because their grandmother was on her deathbed. Perhaps not the time to be watching Pirates of the Caribbean then!

You were being annoying. If it’s that important then go outside or don’t go in the first place. You knew it was wrong, you did it anyway. Be an adult.

WigglyVonWaggly · 17/04/2024 11:46

Getting your phone out in a cinema to check emails is seriously inconsiderate, selfish behaviour. It’s dark. Nobody wants to see your illuminated phone screen in use when they’ve paid to see a film. You needed to leave the screening room. I’m glad the member of staff had a word with you!

Oh how I would have loved the 12 year old from the other thread to have been at the same cinema, she'd have sorted you out!

Ha, yes

craigth162 · 17/04/2024 11:53

TippledPink · 16/04/2024 23:25

You should leave the theatre if you want to check your phone. It ruins the film for everyone else having to see your phone lit up. So entitled.

This. Mega rude

catinthetinhat · 17/04/2024 08:23

Seeing phone screen light up in cinemas is really annoying when you've paid to see a film in darkness.

I took my DC to see a film in half term and the family in front of me took a very young child along with an older one. They let the young child what an iPad all through it. Yes it was on silent but the screen was lit up in the row in front of us.

It's really not acceptable

How could you not have said something?
That would have driven me mad.
I'd have been off fuming to the nearest attendant who'd hopefully kick them out!

CandidHedgehog · 17/04/2024 12:20

Any chance I could get the name of the cinema? If there’s actually a chain enforcing phone bans, I want to start going there!

PrattleTime · 17/04/2024 12:53

Is it legal to have a gun in a public place in Florida? I despair

As far as I can remember there were signs say 'no guns' in the cinema but they weren't legally enforceable. Same as the signs saying 'no phones' I suppose.

Soubriquet · 17/04/2024 12:53

Yabu for being on your phone in a cinema

This is the second thread about someone in the cinema being on the phone in a week Hmm
