To be annoyed I was accused of recording in cinema

Yes I was my phone for a short while as I had received an important email. I think if most of been when they came in to do the checks as she looked toward me then the team leader came in and told me to put my phone away. Aibu to think surely they can tell the difference between a person using their phone and recording and it’s a pretty big to accuse someone of it

Years ago a friend of mine lived in the ME. She used to go to the video shop to get her young ds cartoons etc.
Often they had been recorded in a cinema, heads would bob up at the bottom of the screen as cinema goers had arrived.
The worst was when she put a cartoon on for her ds and when she walked into the room again 10 minutes later her ds was happily watching the cartoon animation which had an obvious porn soundtrack!

Give the op the benefit of the doubt - it could have been "important"

Then she should not go into such a place until until all her 'important' emails are delivered

ineedtostopbeingdramaticfirst · 17/04/2024 06:37

You're not supposed to use your phone during a film. Everyone knows that. That's why you were told to put it away.

Accurate. It's so entitled. Put away your damn phone or wait to watch the film at home. This should not need to be explained to adults.

cadygal257 · 17/04/2024 07:08

How would you know you had received an important email if you hadn't checked your phone in the first place. Also what email is so important that it can't wait the two hours until the film finishes!

Apologies if it's a drip feed and you were waiting on a ransom demand that needed a quick reply!

LlynTegid · 17/04/2024 07:11

If it was that important you should have chosen a different time to go to the cinema, or not gone at all. Would someone have died or not received help if you had read it later?

I am pleased to read of the cinema's response.

Londonrach1 · 17/04/2024 07:28

Yabu. A phone shouldn't ever be on in the cinema. Turn the phone off. If it's that important don't go to the cinema. You were very rude to even have the phone on.

Coconutter24 · 17/04/2024 07:30

No phones in cinema it’s also disrespectful to others around you. I had a woman sit 10 rows in front of me and kept texting and all I could see was her lit up phone screen!! If your email was so important you should of left the screen and took it in the hallway or something

PrattleTime · 17/04/2024 07:33

A nan in America was shot for using his phone in the adverts before the film! He was making sure the babysitter hadn't texted him. And the bloke that murdered him got off.

ManchesterBeatrice · 17/04/2024 07:35

Oh how I would have loved the 12 year old from the other thread to have been at the same cinema, she'd have sorted you out!

Tel12 · 17/04/2024 07:38

If you are going to use your phone you should leave. It's hugely distracting to others who may have gone to actually watch the film.

Cocothecoconut · 17/04/2024 07:41

You sound similar to one of the twist who can’t be arsed to turn their phone off/put on silent when watching the snooker and they have to be reminded
so annoying for everyone

I thought that sounded like bollocks, so I checked. He was shot because he attacked the man who asked him to to turn off his phone. The jury decided that man was entitled to defend himself. But don't let the facts get in the way of a good story.

Wellhellooooodear · 17/04/2024 07:50

Echoing others. YABU to use your phone in the cinema, it's dick behaviour.

PoppyCherryDog · 17/04/2024 07:51

You shouldn’t be on your phone full stop. You can wait to read the email until after.

PollySolo · 17/04/2024 07:54

The OP is FAR too busy and important not to take Important Emails mid-film. The plebs will just have to deal.

Bogeyes · 17/04/2024 07:54

I bet you were eating crisps too

Riapia · 17/04/2024 07:55

Very important email.
Must’ve been an email from Mrs Bucket (the lady of the house).

BodyKeepingScore · 17/04/2024 07:55

There's usually a message telling people to switch off their phones before the movie begins. It's super annoying when people ignore this and you can see the brightness of the screens during the movie. I think YABU

GiantHornets · 17/04/2024 07:57

ANiceBigCupOfTea · 17/04/2024 06:23

You should have stepped out to go check your phone. Unless its the ads/trailers it's rude to sit on your phone and impair the film for others, especially as cinema has got so expensive now.

It’s rude to use your phone during the ads and trailers as well.

I want to watch those - if you don’t, go outside to play with your phone please

HÆLTHEPAIN · 17/04/2024 08:01

I’m so glad to read the responses on this thread. My daughter works in a cinema around college and screen checks are one of her jobs.

If I had a penny for every arsey person she’s told me about, who spoke to her with a rude attitude after she’s done her job to remind them of the phones off rule, I’d be a rich woman!

PrattleTime · 17/04/2024 08:01

He was shot because he attacked the man who asked him to to turn off his phone

He threw popcorn at him because the shooter told him to put his phone away. Even in America you shouldn't be shot for that.
