For voting Tory

I know what the Tories are and no, I don't like it. But I'm a woman, I have daughters and I come from generations of women who've been abused and dismissed because of their sex. I want better for my girls but I can't do it on my own. I need a government who will (at least give lip service to) supporting me. Am I a Tory? no. But the last thing women need is to be fighting their own government for basic recognition, so Tory it is.

But look at the influence that 0.1% has had - in schools, media, NHS, workplaces - that's the problem - that's what's ridiculous. They have shouted down 51%

But the Tories could stop it if it’s that important to them.

It’s also due to legislation, the GRA 2004. But yes it is in those places

Fortunately these threads always go the same way. I commend the patience and perseverance of the people who keep tirelessly coming onto them to point out how irrational it is to think.of the Tories as the party who will look after women's interests. The recent scandal around carers and the change in the benefits system which will cost tens of thousands of disabled people almost £3k a year just highlights how ridiculous it is to think the Tories are there for anyone bar themselves.

Bumpitybumper · 16/04/2024 16:40

LilacFatball · 16/04/2024 16:12

Hmm. Why might our population be getting sicker? It couldn't be anything to do with decades of underfunding our public services & growing inequality could it? If only there were a solution to an aging population, some way to encourage people of working age, whose education we didn't have to pay for, to come here.

The NHS costs a UK citizen less than half what the US healthcare system costs an American. It's a nonsense to think we can't afford the NHS but can afford private healthcare.

Or it could be people making bad choices in terms of diet and exercise? Why is the assumption always that there is no individual responsibility whatsoever? Obesity levels are off the scale and we are becoming more and more sedentary. I'm not saying that inequality etc doesn't play a role but it isn't the whole story and completely ignoring the role of the individual is not going to help solve the crisis.

There are more healthcare models than the USA and the NHS. Many are head and shoulders above both of the aforementioned and involve some form of insurance. The NHS may arguably be cheap but if it's overwhelmed and not actually delivering the health care people need them it's hardly good value is it?

They made Rwanda a safe country with a simple single law.

Underthinker · 16/04/2024 16:42

BIossomtoes · 16/04/2024 16:34

How?

You know this stuff.

You know that in some industries and sectors expressing views contrary to trans activism or gender ideology has been enough to get people disciplined or fired.

You know that Stonewall managed to lobby many government departments to adhere to the law as they wanted it to be, and had them pay for the privilege.

And it was only a couple of years ago with the Forstater appeal that we established that firing people for GC beliefs isn't actually legal. There were plenty who maintained (and some still do) that such discrimination was right and proper and that GC views were on a par with racism or holocaust denial.

Magnastorm · 16/04/2024 16:43

If you truly think the tories give a single shiny shit about women, then you are sorely mistaken.

Allthegoodnamesaregone1 · 16/04/2024 16:44

heldinadream · 16/04/2024 13:08

And how, pray, can anyone fix education, welfare, or the NHS if they insist men are women?
I'm baffled by people who see this as some kind of side-issue. It's fundamental. Education - my friend's child who is being transed. NHS - handing out the puberty blockers. Welfare - will have to pick up the pieces. ETC.
Honestly I think party politics - which is tribal - has had its day. I can't vote for anyone in terms of a party, but I'd support a coalition that had both Victoria Atkins and Rosie Duffield in it. That's the future.

That's your opinion.
I disagree.
Apart from MN I have not come into any actual interaction in real life with any Trans issues

Plenty with failures in education and the NHS though.
Issues that don't have anything to do with sex or gender.

Allthegoodnamesaregone1 · 16/04/2024 16:46

PeaceOnThePorch · 16/04/2024 13:22

It’s impacting everything though, from the nhs to welfare, education and policing/crime stats. It’s impacting women and children but the whole of society really.

It should be a ‘small concern’, but a very small minority seem to hold a lot of weight. It’s disgusting that it’s been allowed.

No it's really not.
Many many people in real life are not having any real interaction with trans issues. And these are people in education and medicine.

Sux2buthen · 16/04/2024 16:47

Allthegoodnamesaregone1 · 16/04/2024 12:44

Right now I can no longer give any care pr consideration to the Trans debate.
It is such a small concern when measured against the real issues we are facing in this country, that are mostly due to the Tory Governement.

So right now my priority is
Education, NHS, The Economy, welfare etc
And the Tories are absolutly destroying them
So if there's a party that can fix the above but can't tell a man from a woman that's still the party getting my vote.

I couldn't agree more

cakewench · 16/04/2024 16:48

Tories seem to be here regularly telling us how to vote, and the only thing they can tell us is 'because they know what a woman is.'

Well, I'm pissed off about it as well, but I'm not going to vote for the Tories just because they've managed to be right on one issue.

But clearly they're very concerned that women-centric social media needs to know that they're the only party who cares about us.

What a fucking joke.

SerendipityJane · 16/04/2024 16:50

Honestly I think party politics - which is tribal - has had its day.

I think it's more accurate to say the system has had it's day. Trying to govern on a Kierkegaardian either/or basis has become outdated. Biology tells us (I believe) that a whole assembled from diversity is much more resilient than a monoculture.

Quite.

TooBigForMyBoots · 16/04/2024 13:39

Seriously @Whatismypasswordthen?

You know that the Trans shitshow happened under and because of the Tories.

Tory PM May put Self ID on the table.
They wrote genderwoo into our legistlation. Including a Maternity Bill.🤯
Tory government minister Penny Mordaunt declared TWAW and TMAM at the Despatch Box.
Tory MP's reported members of the public to their employers and the police for retweeting JKR.
They promoted the "Stonewalling" of our institutions. The CEO was a Tory donor.🙄
They repeatedly appointed genderwoo believers to Secretary of State for Education with disastrous effects in schools.
The world's first trans MP is a Tory. Then appointed him/her/them to Women's and Equalities Commision.
Tory PM Johnson refused to say that only women have a cervix.
As Johnson's Chancellor, Tory PM Sunak said that a woman is whatever Boris Johnson says.

And that's on top of all the other shit they've done to women since coming to power in 2010.😡😡😡

Some Tories know what a woman is, some don't. None of them give a shit about us either way.

YABU.

All of this.

The fact there is a new thread like this every day at a time when the Tories are desperate doesn't escape me and I'm sure many of you.

The thing is I'm quite surprised they even want to win. They've left such a shitshow I almost think they would want another party to take over for a while so they can blame them like they still try to blame the previous Government for stuff despite them not having been in power for fourteen years.

goldenretrievermum5 · 16/04/2024 16:52

Not another one of those delusional posters. OP, the Torys couldn’t care less about women’s rights. It’s simply political point scoring which unfortunately some people seem stupid enough to buy into

ru53 · 16/04/2024 17:08

On whose watch did the issues highlighted in the Cass review happen?? Oh yes, a conservative government.

I despise anyone who could bring themselves to vote for the Tories at the next election. In my view they have destroyed our country over the past decade. Weakened our institutions, damaged society, blown up the economy. I in no way believe for a single second they will protect my rights, or the rights of my daughter. Half of them want to pull us out of the European Convention on Human Rights. They don’t care about anyone’s rights let alone women.

They have lucked out by (some of them) calling this single issue right on a largely superficial level, purely because they know it acts as a lightning rod to their increasingly right wing base. If you think it’s borne out of some deep passion for feminism - they are pulling the wool over your eyes, do not fall for it.

And a final warning, an increasing number on the right of the conservative party are currently being courted by anti abortion lobbyists. If the tories are re-elected the lurch to the far right will be swift and dangerous. Voting tory for women’s rights is frankly deranged.

Just because you haven't experienced it, doesn't mean it isn't real.

If I haven't had bad experiences in the NHS or education, does that mean everything is fine and dandy?

It isn't an either/ or. Both can be true and trans issues have rewritten policy across education and healthcare, you just haven't been paying attention. Fine, it doesn't affect you and we're all busy people. Just be glad some people have been paying attention.

That makes no sense. Absolutely none.

Which part? Sure start was remarkable in it's success. It was a policy aimed squarely at parents, specifically mothers.

Since then, there have been significant moves to eradicate the use of the word 'mother' from public policy. One of the successes of sure start was the the support of breast feeding. Since then, there have been significant moves to eradicate the word ' breastfeeding from public policy.

Do you understand now, Blossomtoes? Trans pressure groups have sought to eradicate women from public policy. Women's needs are quaint and irrelevant - a bit basic. They have much greater issues to be discussed and funded, so move along women. For clarification - I am parodying these opinions - but this is what was happening in front of our eyes.

@Whatismypasswordthen if you are a "single issue" voter, your choices are the SDP, Reform UK and the Party of Women.

The Tory's record shows why they cannot be trusted, to "know what a woman is" or work for the women of the UK.

I expect you're right. I'm not delusional, I've just been conditioned to expect so little from politicians, just having my sex recognised has got me all giddy - seriously. That is how low the bar is.

@MidgeGreensteet they commissioned it because of popular opinion. They don't give a shit about women. They - like most politicians - go where the wind blows on 'smaller' issues.
