To think this is a perfectly fine evening meal?

Had porridge at about 7am this morning and have been busy all day. Have just made myself tea (see pic) and my aunt (who is staying with me for a few days) has made me feel really bad about it - apparently it's too much food and a "greedy meal"

Aibu to think it's fine as an evening meal?

It's four new potatoes, boiled and crisped in the pan with a little olive oil (not how I'd usually have them with a salad type tea, but they were still a bit hard!), two slices of cheese, a tablespoon of fat free cottage cheese/coleslaw, two slices of ham, and a bit of salad cream (plus the salad leaves)

To think this is a perfectly fine evening meal?

What your aunt says is absolute bollocks

tobee · 14/04/2024 20:44

Plus loads of people on Mumsnet have massive eating issues. Or don't tell the truth

YireosDodeAver · 14/04/2024 20:44

Your aunt is one of those nasty competitive undereaters of which there are also a handful on MN who want to make other women feel bad about whatever they eat as a way of propping up their own self-esteem. There's nothing wrong with that meal. It's well balanced and not at all unhealthy.

NoSnowdrop · 14/04/2024 20:46

Your aunt is rude to call you greedy and clearly has issues with food/portions.

I never choose “fat free” options as I think they’re unhealthy and taste terrible but otherwise YANBU!

mitogoshi · 14/04/2024 20:46

I wouldn't have cheese and ham myself but aside looks fine

KvotheTheBloodless · 14/04/2024 20:47

I know MN is mad for competitive undereating, but this thread is wild! Posters saying "that would be too much for me", give your head a wobble. 2 slices of ham is about 50kcal, a tbsp of cottage cheese also 50kcal. 4 new potatoes with olive oil = 270kcal. 1 tbsp coleslaw = 80kcal. Cheese = 85kcal. Salad = 15kcal. Total calories 550.

That's on top of a bowl of porridge at a maximum of 250kcal. So 800kcal for the entire day is too much for you? Oh do fuck off, and while you're at it get help for your incessant need to wang on about how little you eat/how virtuous you are. It's harmful to other women - I say that as a (mostly) recovered anorexic.

DGPP · 14/04/2024 20:48

Looks yummy, it would be the size I’d have. But I’d also have had lunch!

YeahComeOnThen · 14/04/2024 17:51

Why is she staying? Can you cut her visit short??

that's a perfectly normal 'tea', Has she reached the 'sparrow portion' stage of life??

Spot on about the “ sparrow portion of life “ 😂😂

Also , it has bugger all to do with the Aunt what op puts into her mouth. It really pisses me off when people pass opinion on someone’s else’s food or portion sizes. So fucking rude.

Absolutely agree! (Great username btw - I'm a huge fan!)

MissScarletInTheBallroom · 14/04/2024 20:51

It's fine. Don't have your aunt to stay again.

BruceAndNosh · 14/04/2024 20:54

The plate looks full but a third is salad leaves and low fat coleslaw. It's bulky but not overly calorific.
I love reheated potatoes with anything!

TotHappy · 14/04/2024 20:59

It looks amazing. I had a chocolate croissant and half a pain au raisin for breakfast, then a full roast chicken dinner, then seconds of dinner, then thirds (just potatoes). Then some Crisps and a bite of homemade sausage roll this afternoon and finally a huge piece of homemade lemon sponge with raspberries. And I might warm up some leftover spaghetti in a minute. You haven't had a greedy meal!!

Strawberrycheesecake7 · 14/04/2024 20:59

It looks absolutely fine. I’d eat something like this and then dessert. Tell your aunt to mind her own business.

GingerPirate · 14/04/2024 21:01

It's good! (Too much salad for me) but I'm a Junkie!
😁

startingagain202 · 14/04/2024 21:09

The amount of food you need Varys from person to person on a huge amount of factors. But unless you are bed-ridden and do absolutely no activity that is not too much food! I swear my toddler has eaten about that much for their tea tonight as they kept asking for more food. They weigh less than 13kg, and not overweight, so surely an adult can eat a simple plate of food like the one shown?!?

CharlotteBog · 14/04/2024 21:12

If it's going to fill you up then it's fine.
Humans are quite adaptable, we don't have to have breakfast, lunch and dinner, we can have what the hell we like as long as over the course of time our needs are met.

If I don't need to cook a feast meal for 15 yo DS I rarely bother with an evening meal. I'll eat and be sated, and maybe have a late lunch after a long bike ride and then just some grazing later on.

startingagain202 · 14/04/2024 21:12

If we are including serving suggestions I would have ditched the ham and added boiled egg and those tiny pickled gherkins.

It looks a proper retro supper and I'm so jealous!

countdowntonap · 14/04/2024 21:14

Looks so good. Whats for pud?

cheeseandketchupsandwich · 14/04/2024 21:14

Looks soooo yum!

IroningThrone · 14/04/2024 21:21

soupfiend · 14/04/2024 20:28

You are being unreasonable eating 'low fat cottage cheese' (shudder)

LONGLEY FARM

Im shouting because everyone seems to eat the abomination that is low fat cottage cheese these days.

In fact, if Im not mistaken, I think shops dont even label it low fat anymore, they take it as read that this is how it should be. NO, thats not how it should be.

Full fat please.

I know! I usually get the dark blue Longley Farm cottage cheese but it was substituted for the low fat stuff!

I made a chocolate mug cake and added a lot of custard!

MyFirstLittlePony · 14/04/2024 21:22

To me that is a small modest meal

your aunt is a rude guest and unappreciative

ignore her

willWillSmithsmith · 14/04/2024 21:23

LoveSkaMusic · 14/04/2024 17:52

It looks fine to me, if a little odd to have hot potatoes and cold meat!

Nooo that’s a great combination.

Orangewine · 14/04/2024 21:25

That looks so good. And definitely not too much!

Longsight2019 · 14/04/2024 21:30

Why does she feel the need to even comment the entitled old bag
