To think this is a perfectly fine evening meal?

Had porridge at about 7am this morning and have been busy all day. Have just made myself tea (see pic) and my aunt (who is staying with me for a few days) has made me feel really bad about it - apparently it's too much food and a "greedy meal"

Aibu to think it's fine as an evening meal?

It's four new potatoes, boiled and crisped in the pan with a little olive oil (not how I'd usually have them with a salad type tea, but they were still a bit hard!), two slices of cheese, a tablespoon of fat free cottage cheese/coleslaw, two slices of ham, and a bit of salad cream (plus the salad leaves)

I'd be telling Aunt to mind her own business tbh
What you eat isn't anything to do with her ,I'd have seconds just to wind her up 🤣

You'll all be glad to know she's on the train home!

And I'm heading out shortly to pick up my fish and chips! 😁 (the shop has just recently started selling GF stuff and it's so tasty! They're also super careful about contamination which makes me happy!)

Thank Goodness !!

Enjoy the GF Chippy Tea 😍

It’s fine, I’d eat more but I do a lot of exercise and I’m very tall (and always hungry!)

@IroningThrone here goes. Each individual item (in theory) is fine although the quality of that ham looks horrible.
I’m a fan of each of those items but; cheese and cottage cheese is redundant, same with coleslaw and salad, and coleslaw dressing and salad dressing.
looks to me like most of these items are packaged preserved.
I’d start by combining and presenting it differently. I’d have added (much much nicer) ham into the pan fries, which could use some yellow or red pepper. Then combined the slaw and salad adjusting it with cider vinegar if too dry. I’d grate the cheese and either grill it on top of the pan fries or garnish it on top of the salad. The cottage cheese I’d serve on the side, with pineapple or have as a later snack.
It’s not the quantity but quality and farm to table (preservative) aspect.
its a deconstructed meal similar to how I’d present to a toddler or a clean out the fridge situation.

@CurlsnSunshinetime4tea

can you ever just not be arsed ?

like just have bog standard beans on toast or whatever cos you can’t be bothered?

oh and not everyone can afford the absolute best quality ham

Yum,yum. Tell your barmy aunt to have a word with herself.

yellowr0se · 15/04/2024 21:52

You should see my portions! Definitely no where near greedy.

I suspect your aunt has her own foody issues which she's projecting on to you.

Ignore.

millivani · 15/04/2024 21:59

Looks delicious

InSpainTheRain · 15/04/2024 23:00

Who appointed your aunt to the fridge police?

mandlerparr · 15/04/2024 23:13

IroningThrone · 14/04/2024 22:55

I didn't serve it to her. It was my tea.

I would have loved to get that. Looks great.

asterel · 15/04/2024 23:30

Looks really nice and if anything not quite enough rather than too much! Your aunt is irritating.

Fuseblower · 16/04/2024 06:44

Your meal is fine.
But even if it wasn't, it's absolutely none of her business.

With about 12 sausages stuck into the mash? Love it.

This has reminded me that when I was a child 40 years ago my mum would occasionally do sausages and mash and make a little pool in the mash into which would be poured sausage fat. Do that OP!

EmeraldA129 · 16/04/2024 10:42

That looks good, id definitely eat it for dinner.

OldPerson · 16/04/2024 14:19

How on earth do you eat all that in one sitting? Are you overweight by any chance?

Once again, I'm struck by how many people on Mumsnet (much like the OP's aunt) project their own raging eating disorders on to other people.

That would be a fairly light meal for me, and I have a BMI of 21.

There’s a lot of disordered eating on here, but I think that goes for OP as well probably to be posting a photo of her meal on here.

No, she just wanted validation or reassurance I surmise as she was a surprised by her Aunt's words.

Being goady on food threads is so boring now

It's more spiteful than toady in my mind.
