To think this is a perfectly fine evening meal?

Had porridge at about 7am this morning and have been busy all day. Have just made myself tea (see pic) and my aunt (who is staying with me for a few days) has made me feel really bad about it - apparently it's too much food and a "greedy meal"

Aibu to think it's fine as an evening meal?

It's four new potatoes, boiled and crisped in the pan with a little olive oil (not how I'd usually have them with a salad type tea, but they were still a bit hard!), two slices of cheese, a tablespoon of fat free cottage cheese/coleslaw, two slices of ham, and a bit of salad cream (plus the salad leaves)

I'd still be starving if all I ate was that and porridge, she's not taking into account you're full day

IroningThrone · 14/04/2024 17:54

She's always been weird about food, all of my life! Usually I just ignore her but sometimes she makes me feel like crap. She's heading home on Tue, thank goodness!

No lunch - I'd usually have a sandwich or some soup but today had been one of those days when time got away from me and I didn't realise how hungry I was until I stopped! 😬😂

I honestly thought it was too little. Definitely not too much.

Anywherebuthere · 14/04/2024 17:56

Your Aunt is rude to be commenting negatively on your meal.

The food looks fine and even if it didn't she shouldnt be commenting on it.

Sunquest · 14/04/2024 17:57

What did your aunt have ?

Movinghouseatlast · 14/04/2024 17:58

That's a tiny meal. I'm on a diet and I'd eat that and lose weight.

What did your aunt have ?

A slice of brown toast I think! She once insisted that me and my cousins shared a single choc ice - between four of us!

That's more than fine. Looks bloody handsome!

I've never heard a plate of food described as handsome but I'm bloody well going to steal it to use going forward! As for the plate in question, of course it's not too much, but even if it were that's nobody's concern but yours.

Greywitch2 · 14/04/2024 18:00

That doesn't even look that large! As pp said, it's mostly salad.

Your aunt is rude. Even if it was a massively greedy portion it's damned rude for someone else to comment on it. Awful behaviour from her.

ImWearingPantaloons · 14/04/2024 18:00

It looks fine.

Eat it in front of your aunt only using your hands whilst never breaking eye contact with her.

Starlightstarbright3 · 14/04/2024 18:00

we have had a takeaway curry - yours is far healthier

Jk987 · 14/04/2024 18:01

Would have gone full fat for the cottage cheese (still only 4-5% but more nutritious) .
I would swap the ham for boiled eggs.
Nice idea for a dinner though!

Undisclosedlocation · 14/04/2024 18:03

Your aunt is very rude isn’t she? Not to mention likely suffering from some sort of food issues
Id stop inviting her if she spends all her time criticising and making you feel like 💩

Renamed · 14/04/2024 18:03

Are you not tempted to have a plate of bangers and mash Bash Street Kids style tomorrow?

Sunquest · 14/04/2024 18:03

I'd need a big wedge of crusty bread and butter with that but otherwise it looks good.

theduchessofspork · 14/04/2024 18:04

She’s an idiot and rude.

Just tell her personal remarks are rude and you like guests who can provide interesting conversation.

It looks delicious BTW

theduchessofspork · 14/04/2024 18:04

I would make this the last visit..

Octavia64 · 14/04/2024 18:05

Doesn't look enough to me.

Your aunt is bonkers.

With about 12 sausages stuck into the mash? Love it.

It would be too much for me but my tiny DD would easily eat that for her evening meal. So not greedy for someone with a normal appetite. Love the sound of the potatoes - I may try doing some like this later this week…..

I boiled them yesterday and picked all the tiny one out for lunch 😂 came in tonight, realised some were still hard and had to figure out the quickest way to fix that!

They were absolutely delicious! I might add a bit of onion next time!

Let that be the last time she stays with you, then!

Namethattunes · 14/04/2024 18:06

I have no idea why she said that!
its a lot less than i have !

Oblomov24 · 14/04/2024 18:07

Yum.

JMSA · 14/04/2024 18:07

It's not a meal I would enjoy, as it's not really my bag. I'd happily eat a whole plateful of those potatoes though! The quantity is absolutely fine.

I have Coeliac disease so as much as I'd love a big wedge of crusty white bread, it wouldn't enjoy me back! The gluten free stuff just isn't the same. 😭
