To think this is a perfectly fine evening meal?

Had porridge at about 7am this morning and have been busy all day. Have just made myself tea (see pic) and my aunt (who is staying with me for a few days) has made me feel really bad about it - apparently it's too much food and a "greedy meal"

Aibu to think it's fine as an evening meal?

It's four new potatoes, boiled and crisped in the pan with a little olive oil (not how I'd usually have them with a salad type tea, but they were still a bit hard!), two slices of cheese, a tablespoon of fat free cottage cheese/coleslaw, two slices of ham, and a bit of salad cream (plus the salad leaves)

If you're a healthy weight, and considering you had no lunch, then it looks fine.

Your aunt has food issues & should not be policing what you, as an adult, eats. It looks absolutely fine.

This.
Inwardly roll your eyes and ignore her.

FrogTheWarrior · 14/04/2024 21:36

Wrong thread, sorry.

OfficerChurlish · 14/04/2024 21:43

Why would she even comment? Unless she somehow means "greedy" as a compliment - good for you for indulging/pleasing yourself by eating exactly what and how much you want - it's super rude. And irrelevant; you're not wasting food or taking food away from someone else who would otherwise eat it.

Londonrach1 · 14/04/2024 18:46

Going against the grain .. sorry op..it's a lunch not a tea unless you switched them. Half that fit a lunch though but certainly not a tea. Sorry. I'd be ill over night if I had this....just cant believe people eat that much cold sauce before bed....my IBS would really hit badly and I'll be hungry...

Edited

You can't really be surprised to know that most people don't have IBS and any quantity of "cold sauce" wouldn't cause an issue. With every sympathy for your condition you must realise it isn't a universal one.

WhereYouLeftIt · 14/04/2024 21:48

Your aunt's eating is disordered and her opinions on food aren't worth a rat's fart.

@soupfiend YES ! The best Cottage Cheese.
I like it with pineapple. Then chop a bit of pickled beetroot in for good measure.

NO!!!!

Pineapple does not belong in cottage cheese or on pizza! DD vehemently disagrees!

I once ordered pizza a street food place and said "One meat feast, and a contraversial choice...." and before I could finish she said "Oh ham and pineapple then?" !

I know MN is mad for competitive undereating, but this thread is wild! Posters saying "that would be too much for me", give your head a wobble. 2 slices of ham is about 50kcal, a tbsp of cottage cheese also 50kcal. 4 new potatoes with olive oil = 270kcal. 1 tbsp coleslaw = 80kcal. Cheese = 85kcal. Salad = 15kcal. Total calories 550.

That's on top of a bowl of porridge at a maximum of 250kcal. So 800kcal for the entire day is too much for you? Oh do fuck off, and while you're at it get help for your incessant need to wang on about how little you eat/how virtuous you are. It's harmful to other women - I say that as a (mostly) recovered anorexic.

Yes but although calorifically its not much, I have a very small stomach capacity. due to an eating disorder. I physically wouldnt be able to eat that in one go. Like I have to eat a sandwich over about an hour because I couldnt eat both halves in one go. I try to eat a normal amount of calories but its difficult to do with three meals a day, I have to graze.

Sierra26 · 14/04/2024 21:56

wouldnt be enough for me!

Saz12 · 14/04/2024 22:04

I'd eat that kind of amount for lunch, and your aunt would be horrified at my dinner. I'm on the low-bmi side of healthy, and not as active as I should be.

Your aunt is possibly the greedy one, eyeing up the coleslaw and worrying therell not be enough for her 😀

ChampagneLassie · 14/04/2024 22:06

It’s less than I tend to eat. I’d have more veggies/ salad and more ham and probably lose one of the slaw things but overall I eat more and I’d have for lunch and dinner

Lifeomars · 14/04/2024 22:07

Today I have had:

breakfast, half a can of baked beans on two sllces of toast
Lunch a cup of soup (M and S mushroom)
Evening dinner, Chicken breast with 4 roast spuds, a Yorkshire pudding, some stuffing, carrots, cauliflower and gravy , it was yummy and I had a glass of wine too. Your aunt would be appalled!

Isitautumnyet23 · 14/04/2024 22:16

Looks totally fine to me - a large amount of the plate is salad. Also, even if she thought the portions were big (not that its any of her business at all!), its the weekend and I think most of the country will have had a bigger meal this weekend (not that yours is big!). Does she not eat big roasts or takeaways sometimes at the weekend?

Nottherealmama · 14/04/2024 22:18

It looks a normal amount but I wouldn't have cottage cheese, hard cheese, coleslaw and salad cream in the same meal.

RedRobyn2021 · 14/04/2024 22:20

It sounds like your aunt has issues with food and weight, not uncommon but sad

Your dinner looks really nice, I must try and have more picky teas like this

SeatonCarew · 14/04/2024 22:20

Candleabra · 14/04/2024 18:05

With about 12 sausages stuck into the mash? Love it.

And a moat of gravy round the sides. 😊

Noseybookworm · 14/04/2024 22:24

That's a normal size meal and not a particularly heavy one either! Your aunt obviously has issues around food 🙄

MsLuxLisbon · 14/04/2024 22:29

Does your aunt have form for this sort of nonsense? Don't have her to stay again, you shouldn't tolerate people policing your food like that.

Sallyh87 · 14/04/2024 22:32

Even if it was a full KFC bucket it’s none of her business.

Rude to comment on someone elses food.

BoneshakerBike · 14/04/2024 22:33

Well it is not too much food but it is a pretty poor meal to serve a guest for dinner.

But you have a gastric/digestive illness, so of course your view of what would be an appropriate mean will differ from the OP’s?

OP, even if you dined on a tub of icecream with a side order of deep-fried mars bar, it would be rude for your aunt to comment.

i had a bowl of Bran Flakes for dinner.

Blondeshavemorefun · 14/04/2024 22:34

LoveSkaMusic · 14/04/2024 17:52

It looks fine to me, if a little odd to have hot potatoes and cold meat!

Have you never had cold meat and mash on Boxing Day ?

Op looks fab. Reminds me of Boxing Day meals

CallMikeBanning · 14/04/2024 22:34

Your aunt is rude. Who goes to someone else's house and says their host is eating a greedy tea?

It is a lovely looking tea. I would really enjoy it and I'd feel like it was a healthy option.

I'm pretty sure I will be copying it this week.

MsLuxLisbon · 14/04/2024 22:35

OneBadKitty · 14/04/2024 21:31

If you're a healthy weight, and considering you had no lunch, then it looks fine.

Even if the OP was not a healthy weight and had had lunch, it still has fuck all to do with the aunt.
