Do you shower/bath everyday

Just that really, do you shower/bath daily as an adult that (not ill or has health conditions)

I am asking this as another thread, made me curious.

YIBU- I don't shower everyday, there is no need.
YANBU- I shower everyday as I like to be clean.

I don’t think smelling musty is such a terrible thing. There’s a big difference between someone who stinks of BO and someone who’s just a bit musty. I don’t think it’s essential to always smell of roses.

I shower every day regardless even if unwell,I'd feel so gross not showering.
I work in a public facing job and all those saying they don't smell if they don't shower every day are wrong,I can definitely smell those that haven't (keen sense of smell unfortunately) especially unwashed dirty hair

Unwashed dirty hair is the worst smell, ever. You can also see the grease forming.

Smelling musty equals not being clean, not being fresh.

BO can happen at anytime especially on a packed tube but the difference is that a person should go home and wash, then its not a problem.

Some people use unscented products. Just because you can’t smell “fragrance” on them doesn’t mean they are dirty.

gano · 14/04/2024 10:28

It depends. Generally, I shower every other day. I'm not a very sweaty/smelly person, so this suits me. Although, I always give my pits n bits a wash at the sink on the days that I don't shower. I shower more in hot weather, and possibly twice a day in a heat wave. I'd also shower if I've been exercising or doing manual work.

Surely adults should be washing their genitals, bum and armpits everyday at least.

And feet !

TheChosenTwo · 14/04/2024 10:32

Shower every morning and bath most evenings - the shower is for cleanliness and the bath is for relaxation (I finish the bath with a quick 60 second blast under the shower!).
I exercise most days before my shower, usually at the pool for 6am and have my shower there.

That’s sort of my point, I don’t see it as essential to permanently be squeaky clean and fresh. I mean obviously there are hygiene reasons for not being permanently filthy either, but musty is a middle ground I’m ok with.

zingally · 14/04/2024 10:35

No.
Every other day. Our shower is a real gas-guzzler, and honestly, I'd rather save the pennies!

Motheranddaughter · 14/04/2024 10:36

Surely quicker /easier to have a quick shower than to faff about with a flannel

The standard Mumsnet shower seems to be at least 15 minutes though. There was a thread about this recently.

Sakura7 · 14/04/2024 10:38

A musty smell isn't particularly pleasant either to be honest.

@KimberleyClark I don't think anyone is suggesting that's there's anything wrong with using unscented products.

Midnightrunners · 14/04/2024 10:39

At least once a day, otherwise I'd smell.

Cathbrownlow · 14/04/2024 10:40

Maybe some of us have a keener sense of smell than others, I don't know. I suppose I will get into more trouble if I add that I can smell plaque build-up on teeth that are not cleaned properly, too. I don't mean halitosis (that's another thread) but I mean the unmistakeable sweet smell of plaque build up.

Really? Most comments I've seen on the subject over the years average around 5 minutes. Lots of people complaining about family members taking too long.

That’s what I mean, I don’t feel like it’s a massive deal if someone doesn’t smell particularly pleasant - I don’t think people have an obligation to prioritise smelling pleasant. There’s a world of difference between not smelling entirely pleasant and smelling terrible.

Smelling of nothing is absolutely fine.

Smelling of BO or mustiness isn't great.

The musty smell only happens if you haven't washed for a while. Someone who washes daily with an unscented soap or shower gel won't have that.

No. I wash my hair and full shower every 5 days give or take, or after a bike ride. Otherwise just wash bum and pits before bed.
Our water is metered, as of course is the gas to heat it. I don't want to spend a fortune on something that to me isn't necessary.

5 days, what about your feet

OP posts:
fieldsofbutterflies · 14/04/2024 10:47

Everyday. It only takes five minutes.

I actually hate having showers (sensory overload due to autism) but I also can't stand feeling grubby or sweaty (another sensory thing), so I plan it into my day and get it done as fast as possible.

KimberleyClark · 14/04/2024 10:49

I’m post menopausal and don’t sweat or smell much at all. I use a natural deodorant (after my daily shower) that works fine though I did find natural deodorants didn’t work pre menopause.

ememem84 · 14/04/2024 10:51

Yep. Every morning. Hot water to start then finish with a blast of cold water whilst counting to 100. Wakes me up nicely. 😁

YeahComeOnThen · 14/04/2024 10:52

Mylobsterteapot · 14/04/2024 07:09

No. My skin gets so dry and sore if I shower every day. That’s every other day, with a wash in between.

My flatmate showers twice a day. It annoys me, and sends our gas bill sky high. How dirty can you get in less than 12 hours in bed?!

@Mylobsterteapot unless she's in there an hour, she's not sending your gas bill sky high.

i get hot enough at night that I want a shower to freshen up (& wake up) in the morning. I wash my hair in the morn in too as it's a bit of a mess if I wash it at night.

i sleep better if I have a shower at night on my way to bed.

dizzydizzydizzy · 14/04/2024 10:54

Yes! Of course. Even though I find it tiring due to health conditions. I like to be clean and absolutely hate smells.
