To hate having someone lurk while I cook

Why does my DH appear just at the trickiest bit of the cooking? What does he want? Is he trying to learn how to cook by watching (doubt it), or is he just trying to see how much longer it will be. I can't stand it.

In my experience it's not the men that are as bad at this (dh has finally been trained as I don't mince my words and tell him get out my fucking kitchen).
Worst offenders are mil age group. Both mine and my sisters think bodily standing themselves in front of cupboards and dithering is somehow helping. When I explain that if I wanted help the person to ask would be dh and not the guests they imply he's a poor abused bunny made to work so hard. (Because at the moment he works and I 'just' raise our neurodiverse under fours.)
Fil at least stays out although mainly out of sexist laziness no doubt.

Yes mil is like that.

My father used to hover by my elbow saying unhelpful things like "be careful with that knife it looks sharp" - yeah thanks Dad I'm 55, I can manage bloody knives!
