Prostitute checked into our hotel!

Ok, so away in London for a couple of days with DH and DD (10). We were staying in a 4* Hotel which is part of a large chain of hotels, not a small independent. We went to reception about 10.30 on the 2nd morning and was met with a lady (who was very obviously a prostitute) being told her room would be ready in 5 mins and her handing over £100 in cash to the receptionist. The hotel is £250+ a night and check in is 3pm!

AIBU to this this made the hotel feel a bit icky and sleazy after I saw that? Husband and I spoke briefly when DD wasn’t listening and he said “well they have to work somewhere!”. Not sure if I’m turning into a prude in my old age, but I really didn’t feel comfortable in the hotel after I saw that. I’m sure for her, it was a safe and comfortable place to work and I know this goes on in hotels, I suppose just seeing it in broad daylight shocked me a bit. We knew what she was there for, the receptionist knew what she was there for, the man behind us in the queue knew what she was there for, maybe I thought she and the hotel should have been a bit more discreet if they allow this to go on in their hotel, especially when it’s a family friendly hotel and there were a lot of children around?

And extremely superior too!

I'm thrilled for you, you clever clever girl.

Is this the best you can do ? Attacking someone who has made a valid argument and backed it up ? You used the words ‘nasty misogynistic language’. I would suggest you have no idea what that means.

Bad news for you, that goes on in EVERY hotel. So unless she's knocking on your door asking to use your room, it's none of your business.

Seriously @jsterr1 why resurrect this thread which hasn’t been active for SEVEN days.. and quote the entire OP above your post?

i have a theory (related to getting more traffic and a frenzy of posts for advertisers) but I’ll get deleted by Mumsnet for even suggesting it

Wow! A whole 7 days? THIS POST IS ANCIENT!!!! Just got the email today. Complain to mumsnet. And then there's that whole pesky detail that YOU CAN STOP FOLLOWING THIS POST IF YOU DONT WANT TOBSEE IT. Your bus to school wasn't white as long as the others, was it.

This is so weird, you have no idea she was a brass. Even if she was so what where do you live in a cave in the middle of nowhere

Opinionwontchangeluv · 07/07/2024 05:09

She was obviously a prostitute by the way she dressed ....

A girl is stuck in London after leaving a club and needed somewhere to stay....

After leaving a rave she couldn't get a taxi home so stayed in a hotel ...

Do these things not happen? Because I have done these things or stayed with a partner from the day before in my club clothes. Wonder if others thought I was a brass too

OP never did answer how the woman was dressed but I also assume she meant she dressed like a street walker and my thought is, why would a prostitute doing business from a hotel room need to dress like a street walker? The clients know what she does they've booked her in advance! I'd expect a prostitute working from a hotel to be dressed casually when they arrive then change into her client receiving outfits, or lack of, in the room.

…whoops old post

I know this is a zombie thread but am I the only person who thought the, ahem, sex worker/prostitute and the receptionist had a sweet deal going on, she paid them a cut price rate, they kept the cash (rpt cash - most hotels prefer a CC these days), she could conduct her business in safety and all was cushty.
Disclosure - I worked in a hotel as a student and discovered many such 'deals' going on. Chefs, waiters, housekeeping, under managers, there were fiddles aplenty. Generally financial but also sexual.

JohnTheRevelator · 07/01/2025 18:51

So what?!

BeAgileRubyTurtle · 01/10/2025 09:33

I dont mean to be unkind but maybe you should count yourself lucky that you are not in a situation where you are put in a position where you have to sell your body to strange man who you dont know and who could do anything to you.
How old was the sex worker? Did she look healthy or did she look like she had a terminal illness or disabiltiy.
Lots of women who are disabled and terminally ill are being kicked off benefits so that starmer can give those benefits to young healthy people with mental health.
So now a lot of these women are in a situation where they are too sick to work but are refused benefits even though they are terminally ill.
I would say a percentage of these women will end up in sex work because the hours are short and they are not physically well enough to do 8 hour shifts.
DONT JUDGE YOU DONT KNOW WHAT PEOPLE ARE GOING THROUGH
