Prostitute checked into our hotel!

Ok, so away in London for a couple of days with DH and DD (10). We were staying in a 4* Hotel which is part of a large chain of hotels, not a small independent. We went to reception about 10.30 on the 2nd morning and was met with a lady (who was very obviously a prostitute) being told her room would be ready in 5 mins and her handing over £100 in cash to the receptionist. The hotel is £250+ a night and check in is 3pm!

AIBU to this this made the hotel feel a bit icky and sleazy after I saw that? Husband and I spoke briefly when DD wasn’t listening and he said “well they have to work somewhere!”. Not sure if I’m turning into a prude in my old age, but I really didn’t feel comfortable in the hotel after I saw that. I’m sure for her, it was a safe and comfortable place to work and I know this goes on in hotels, I suppose just seeing it in broad daylight shocked me a bit. We knew what she was there for, the receptionist knew what she was there for, the man behind us in the queue knew what she was there for, maybe I thought she and the hotel should have been a bit more discreet if they allow this to go on in their hotel, especially when it’s a family friendly hotel and there were a lot of children around?

I once had a hotel room, the balcony of which directly overlooked an apartment with a red light in the window and a literal queue of men waiting to get in.

After that, what's one random prostitute 😂

supercalafragilisticexpealidocious · 13/04/2024 15:23

God MN is exhausting sometimes. I can perfectly well understand how you would know she was a prostitute OP. Not sure why everyone is being so difficult about it. I can't decide whether it would bother me or not though...I think probably not unless I could hear it in the next room.

BoohooWoohoo · 13/04/2024 15:23

Yabu
All hotels will have people like prostitutes, customers inviting escorts, drug taking, people obviously having affairs….
Your money is obviously as valuable to the hotel as the “immoral” people who keep them in business.

HelloMiss · 13/04/2024 15:23

So it's a 'family friendly hotel'?

What does that even mean in this scenario??

So what?

A few hotels now let out rooms during the day for a cheaper rent. Not all used by prostitutes! And how was she obviously one? Were you assuming that by the way she dresses etc?

NeverEnoughPants · 13/04/2024 15:23

Oh my. Are you telling me that people sometimes have sex in hotel rooms? That's shocking.

Who knew!!

Geebray · 13/04/2024 15:24

Are you saying that people have sex in hotels? Oh my god!!!!

HelloMiss · 13/04/2024 15:24

What is offending you so much?

Corestly · 13/04/2024 15:24

Why does it matter? If it's your Dd you're worried about, I imagine she didn't notice the woman at all, or if she did, would have thought nothing of it.

Also, it's possible to hire some hotel rooms by the hour or the day - maybe she wasn't a sex worker at all but having an affair or something.

Finlesswonder · 13/04/2024 15:24

Some of you sound quite sheltered. It's obvious prostitutes are prostitutes.

ichundich · 13/04/2024 15:24

You come across as very old-fashioned and a bit sexist, OP. Try to enjoy your weekend in London.

needsomewarmsunshine · 13/04/2024 15:25

Judgy or what? It's really none of your business in the first place, other people won't care if it is true and she's probably earning in an hour what many people make a day.
Better for her to be safe. what was she wearing? Skimpy clothles isn't a clue because many young women wear such things and they aren't all on the game.

Boomer55 · 13/04/2024 15:25

My ex worked as a London taxi driver. He took many higher class “workers” to the best of the hotels.

Hotel class is no indicator.🙄

AGodawfulsmallaffair · 13/04/2024 15:25

You have no idea why she was booking in. This is the most judgemental shit I’ve seen here, and that’s saying something. Shame on you, whether she was a sex worker or not. Don’t you know the word prostitute is horrible?

EveryoneJapan · 13/04/2024 15:25

Geebray · 13/04/2024 15:24

Are you saying that people have sex in hotels? Oh my god!!!!

I once let a man kiss me on the face in a hotel room. He also consensually touched my knee over breakfast.

DirtyDensDog · 13/04/2024 15:25

What did you say on Tripadvisor?

BodyKeepingScore · 13/04/2024 15:25

How do you know she was a prostitute? And even if she was how is that any different than the people in other rooms potentially having sex?

fieldsofbutterflies · 13/04/2024 15:25

GrumpyL · 13/04/2024 15:21

She paid £100 as she counted it out in £10 notes as she gave it to the receptionist. I don’t want to get into a discussion about you shouldn’t judge a women by what she was wearing etc, let’s just say it was very obvious that she was a prostitute hiring room for the day. This was 10.30am in the morning, not the night.

Not daytime sex 😱

TheHappyBear · 13/04/2024 15:25

I don't mind the noise, except when her head starts banging against the wall.

TotalDramarama24 · 13/04/2024 15:26

You must lead a very sheltered life if you think that prostitutes in London dress in a stereotypical way or wear some sort of uniform that makes their profession immediately obvious to bystanders.

More likely that she was re-enacting Pretty Woman with her long term partner to spice up her relationship on their Easter break.

Poppyseed14 · 13/04/2024 15:27

Did she have a face like a plasterer's radio OP? 😳

TokyoSushi · 13/04/2024 15:27

Gosh OP, you're very sheltered! 😄

I used to be a front desk manager at various 5* hotels, I know 5 star and it happens ALL.THE.TIME

Littlebitpsycho · 13/04/2024 15:27

Poppyseed14 · 13/04/2024 15:27

@Poppyseed14 🤣🤣🤣🤣

NeedToChangeName · 13/04/2024 15:28

MN is unpredictable. Another day, responses would agree with OP

I judge the customers more than the sex worker. And I wouldn't want to stay in a hotel that supports sex work

fieldsofbutterflies · 13/04/2024 15:28

OP should watch Hotel Babylon if she wants to be truly shocked Grin

It was based on true stories.
