Sick of this fucking weather. No wonder we are all ill and fat.

The heating has been on at home at some point every day for the past 7 months. I’ve no inclination to get out and walk or do anything at all after work. I come home and cook comfort food as there’s sod all else to do. Drying washing everywhere, house always looks untidy.

It’s always cold, dark, rainy, depressing. If we’re lucky we’ll get 2-3 months of a bit of warmth and sunshine before it all starts waning towards winter again.

No wonder there’s lots of bugs and colds around, we’re all indoors all the time! Couple the shitty weather with high costs of living, crap public services and it makes me wonder why I didn't feck off to Australia when I was younger.

No point to this post, just a moan!

HNRTFT but today in Kent has been lovely and the first day on a day off that I have enjoyed the weather and actually walked 10000 steps with the doggie. Unfortunately it’s now pissing down so absolutely no expectations for tomorrow. Wine and toast is my excitement for this evening!!

No now moo off

Elebag · 08/04/2024 21:55

You have to accept it's shit and just get on with it. Walk everyday, even if it's boring and raining.

I had a horrible run in the wind yesterday. Zero happy endorphins but in the long term it pays off.

DrCoconut · 08/04/2024 21:55

@HolidayAtNight agree about the "suitable clothing". If that's all it takes why don't the people who moan about nice summer weather just put on a nice sundress and sandals and get on with their day? We are long overdue a good summer now. Last year was dismal and 2022 was not great either apart from the brief heatwave.

PickledMumion · 08/04/2024 21:56

I'm in Somerset, we're used to rain, but we've only had two completely dry days THIS YEAR!

I've got animals, I have to go out in all weathers, and I'm not usually overly sensitive to a bit of bad weather, but this is just so relentlessly miserable, even I'm flagging. Fields are under water, I'm worried I'm going to run out of hay, I'm constantly on edge at work worrying if I'll make it home (flooding has been significant and repeated). I need a break from the rain, and I need to see the sun!!

daffodilandtulip · 08/04/2024 21:57

I'm not a stay in because it's raining type person, but dear god it's miserable. It's not the temps so much, but the constant bloody rain.

ChaosAndCrumbs · 08/04/2024 21:58

I’m in rainy wales and good clothes do make a difference. I get ridiculously cold in general, so often use thermal under layers over winter (wool) and dress warmly on top (not cotton or denim), then have a big coat that can protect against minus temperatures and snow or rain. It works really well. You have to look for stuff designed specifically for that weather though. I’m always surprised at the number of people who say they have a rain coat when the coat they’ve got is designed for a light shower and short walk and not long walks in heavy rain.

It’s not always appealing to go out in the rain day after day, you’ve still got wet coats etc to sort once home, but if we didn’t we’d be stuck indoors the whole time, so we just carry on. Our ducks love it though.

Comedycook · 08/04/2024 21:59

I used to work with a lot of Australian people who would travel to the UK and work on those working holiday visas. They used to have a running joke that putting on weight once they were here was inevitable. Worse weather leading to a less active, outdoorsy lifestyle plus comfort food

I've got dogs. There is a saying "no such thing as bad weather just inappropriate clothing". No idea where you live, but here in the SE UK,it was 18c today, shorts and t shirt. Yesterday cloudless sky, warm out of the wind. Took dogs and DGS to Forest about 8 miles away,he was climbing trees, playing with the dogs. Easter weather was nice, just a few showers one afternoon. When my DKS were small, I couldn't afford the electric fire, I bunged them in a pram, pushchair, because it always felt warmer when I went back indoors.

Do you live somewhere else? I live in the SE and we’ve had one nice afternoon.

AFmammaG · 08/04/2024 22:02

I’m in the NE and it was beautiful today. I took a long walk barefoot in the sea. The water wasn’t even that cold. Felt fabulous.

Smugly skips into the sunshine

ItIsntReallyLikeThat · 08/04/2024 22:02

I sympathise OP. I used to live in western central Scotland and felt just like this.

I'm now in the south and gasping for a bit of rain.

MrWarmth · 08/04/2024 22:02

The weather is much better now, temperature wise. I hate it when it's too hot in the summer and I hate it when it's too cold in the winter. This here is my favourite time of year. We put the heating on but if I lived alone I definitely wouldn't.

mackerella · 08/04/2024 22:03

We've had a whole week of mostly sunny (albeit very windy) weather in East Anglia - we got three loads of washing dried outside yesterday! But it's amazing how much the sunny weather instantly lifted my mood, so I sympathise with those of you in wetter parts of my country.

IClaudine · 08/04/2024 22:04

It is utterly depressing, OP. I have never known it to rain so much. I worry about how the farmers are coping and the impact on crops and food prices.

The South of where? Spain?! I'm SW UK and it's been pissing it down since about October 2022....

Where do you live that you are ‘gasping’ for rain? I live in relatively dry London and even we have had quite a lot over the last few months.

likepebblesonabeach · 08/04/2024 22:05

Totally agree op.
I'm in Scotland and from when the summer school holidays started in June 2023 it has been bloody awful.
Just seen we have another weather warning for tomorrow, it feels like it's never ending.

bevelino · 08/04/2024 22:05

I thought I would be out of my warm winter clothes and wearing light colours and spring dresses, but not a chance with the weather we are having right now.

climbershell · 08/04/2024 22:05

I'm a gardener. My first season back after 2 babies. Started early March, 3 days a week. I think it's rained on me every single day at some point, even on the dry forecast days. Thankfully it's finally warmed up the last week or so!

Yes, the few sunny days we have had were an instant mood enhancer!

Life is what you make of it and you make your own choices.

The weather may have been shite but we have still had loads of fun!

You only get one shot at life... it's short and precious.

This! I’m not fat or ill. Just dress appropriately or make the most when it has been dry. And there’s plenty of fun active things to do whatever the weather. Find it mad people let the weather affect their lives.
