Sick of this fucking weather. No wonder we are all ill and fat.

The heating has been on at home at some point every day for the past 7 months. I’ve no inclination to get out and walk or do anything at all after work. I come home and cook comfort food as there’s sod all else to do. Drying washing everywhere, house always looks untidy.

It’s always cold, dark, rainy, depressing. If we’re lucky we’ll get 2-3 months of a bit of warmth and sunshine before it all starts waning towards winter again.

No wonder there’s lots of bugs and colds around, we’re all indoors all the time! Couple the shitty weather with high costs of living, crap public services and it makes me wonder why I didn't feck off to Australia when I was younger.

No point to this post, just a moan!

There is a weather disparity between W & E due to the Atlantic, air masses and prevailing wind.

Statistically it’s drier in the E

Agree! I have children and dogs and we go out twice a day walking..:: it’s so so muddy and wet! It’s messing the house up- mud everywhere and wet shoes all the time! It’s been a particularly wet year so far :(

FangsForTheMemory · 08/04/2024 22:08

Hah. No such thing as bad weather only bad clothing? I've got waterproof hiking boots and a waterproof coat but where I live it gets very windy and the rain was sideways today. The ground's so muddy you can't keep your footing. I don't usually walk with a stick but recently I've been having to.

AllPrincessAnneshorses · 08/04/2024 22:08

Speak for yourself, I'm neither ill nor fat. Because I make a bloody effort despite the weather.

Disclaimer in next post before you all leap

AllPrincessAnneshorses · 08/04/2024 22:09

And yes, aware of disability etc etc. No mention of that from OP.

Rosesanddaisies1 · 08/04/2024 22:06

This! I’m not fat or ill. Just dress appropriately or make the most when it has been dry. And there’s plenty of fun active things to do whatever the weather. Find it mad people let the weather affect their lives.

Depends on individual circumstances, though. For example, if you are a wheelchair user, or use a walker, or just walk slowly due to mobility issues, going out in the pissing rain is no fun.

Livelovebehappy · 08/04/2024 22:11

People saying go for a walk - all good if you live in the countryside where there are nice scenic routes on the roads. In cities and towns, the only alternative is to walk in parks and woods where you’ll be knee deep in mud. I take the dog for daily walks and am beyond pissed off with having to shower him off as soon as I get through the door. Twice a day. Still manage to get muddy paw prints on floors and rugs, and sofa if I don’t grab him in time. It’s just all so depressing and draining.

Whatabouterry · 08/04/2024 22:12

Couldn’t agree more OP. Normally April has some nice sunny days but this year it’s been relentlessly dreary.

grapeomelette · 08/04/2024 22:13

It's awful. It's depressing. And I'm already dreading next winter if it's going to be as bad as this one.

IClaudine · 08/04/2024 22:13

Yep, @Livelovebehappy our local park is a mud bath right now.

Gingernurt88 · 08/04/2024 22:14

SabreIsMyFave · 08/04/2024 21:50

Well yeah exactly. Shithouse weather is fine - (well...., acceptable!) in chuffing winter - or even Autumn. But it's nearly the middle of April, and it's been shit for 6 months! Sad

This is it. My kids were both born in April, with both of them there was hot weather in the fortnight before they came. It was a running joke for the second that there was a heatwave coming so best get the car seat in the car. There's a picture of me one week before the eldest being born in shorts and my feet in a bucket of cold water. With her I went on maternity leave at the end of March and got sunburn sitting outside a cafe. 'I'd think I imagined it had I not had these pictures.

Yeah carry on regardless of the weather. You want to lie on a sun lounger? JFDI. Loll around on that bitch in the driving rain. Want to go skiing? What's stopping you? Strap those bad boys on your feet and hurtle through the mud into your nearest canal. It's all the same really. Weather is irrelevant.

IClaudine · 08/04/2024 22:16

I live in Wales so am used to coping with rainy weather, but the past six months or so have been exceptionally awful, there has been so little respite from it.

Misthios · 08/04/2024 22:17

Who are these people who relish getting out for a lovely walk when it's blowing a force 10 gale and raining sideways? You'd need oilskins like the deep sea fishermen wear to keep you dry on some of the days we've had and i'd look bloody stupid trudging round the local park dressed like that.

You do see some of the exercise fanatics out jogging in a deluge, and people with dogs have to take them out. But the reaction of most people is to say fuck that for a game of soldiers, i'll wait until it stops raining to go out. And then it doesn't stop raining.

Jellykat · 08/04/2024 22:17

I'm in West Wales and its like a bog!
I hate it - applying my make up in semi darkness and walking to catch the bus in the rain.. only to discover i look like a clown under the work lights once i get there. Not to mention dripping like a wet dog most of the day.
The other thing is the constant tiredness! I can bounce around all day when it's bright, but with this weather i can barely muster the brain energy to crack a joke!
and taking Vit D isn't helping much.. Grrrrrr!

I don't live in the UK and we don't get anything like the amount of rain you do. I go out walking almost every day, the weather has to be pretty bad to keep me indoors, but I can assure you that being out in bad weather is really not a lot of fun. Why is it so difficult to understand that most people need sunshine and warmth to feel good about life? I can see my mood lift when the sun puts in an appearance. Even when I'm inside I still need to be able to see that the sun is shining to movitate myself. I would go stark raving mad if we had your weather.

I can't help but think these posters who are full of relentless positivity about the weather are trying to convince themselves more than anyone else.

Comedycook · 08/04/2024 22:18

It's not necessarily within your control. My mood is hugely affected by the weather. It's actually really difficult and miserable. If it's a grey rainy day I feel so low and unmotivated. When the sun is out I feel like an entirely different person.

hattie43 · 08/04/2024 22:20

Totally agree OP. I've lost all motivation and feel I'm putting life on hold until god willing we get some nice weather

I see the 'just go for a walk' crew didn't clock off after lockdown.

The South of where? Spain?! I'm SW UK and it's been pissing it down since about October 2022....

But at least South West Water think they'll probably not have to do the whole hosepipe ban thing again. Probably.

Probably.

Blackcats7 · 08/04/2024 18:33

Try having a horse. It’s torture and most horsey people I know are really depressed and exhausted.
My friend has a family of ducks who have moved into her fields and it is suiting them far better than the poor horses.

Yep. Had horses since 1992 and this is the first year I’ve seriously considered giving up.

peloton2024 · 08/04/2024 22:26

For me it's the simple stuff. I WFH and in summer I like to finish work and sit outside in the garden for an bit with a book or a coffee on a weekend morning
I'm not asking for heat, just not sideways rain and wind Grin

My swimming spot is a bog, the slope down to the river is lethal so we have all put it on hold for now. Plus it seems colder when you're going from damp clothes to water and trying to get changed in the rain
