The heating has been on at home at some point every day for the past 7 months. I’ve no inclination to get out and walk or do anything at all after work. I come home and cook comfort food as there’s sod all else to do. Drying washing everywhere, house always looks untidy.

It’s always cold, dark, rainy, depressing. If we’re lucky we’ll get 2-3 months of a bit of warmth and sunshine before it all starts waning towards winter again.

No wonder there’s lots of bugs and colds around, we’re all indoors all the time! Couple the shitty weather with high costs of living, crap public services and it makes me wonder why I didn't feck off to Australia when I was younger.

No point to this post, just a moan!

Try having a horse. It’s torture and most horsey people I know are really depressed and exhausted.
My friend has a family of ducks who have moved into her fields and it is suiting them far better than the poor horses.

Could you get rid of your horse if it's making you miserable?

willWillSmithsmith · 08/04/2024 21:25

I’m so fed up with it. We’re having an actual storm at the moment (well raining and very windy) and it’s not enjoyable no matter how I might convince myself it is (I’m not even bothering to try to tbh). Every single day it’s raining. We might have one or two dry days but that’s for the entire year so far. It hits me hard because I have some issues with the house that need sorting and the rain exacerbates it so I’m very conscious of the bad weather and how persistent it’s been.

Spectre8 · 08/04/2024 21:27

I agree OP, finally had a dry sunny but windy day in London on the weekend. God it was so good to be out and about. Managed to clean my driveway get some much needed gardening done and then had drinks by the river with friends.

Back to rain now urgh but I checked the forecast and shoukd be another good weekend so definitely planning some day trips somewhere to make the most of it

For some people this relentless windy, grey & damp (I'm in the SW & it's been MONTHS) is a real mental health issue.

I don't know what all the smug 'well it's fine for me' is all about. Good for you! That's great. Really pleased you're not affected. It isn't necessarily about 'getting out' it is a lack of sunlight & it affects a lot of people to the point it increases suicide rates. There are mountain-shadowed villages that literally get spots of light reflected into them via heliostats perched up high.

So rather than sneer at those struggling, try just a little bit of empathy.

Hear hear!

I mean I do my best - I try to exercise daily, I dance and listen to music, I live alone but try and keep in contact with people and attend social events etc, but this weather is still hard on my mental health.

My mood is instantly lifted when I’m exposed to nicer brighter weather. I live near Manchester and it feels like it’s always raining. I didn’t find it quite as bad when I stayed in London.

SevenSeasOfRhye · 08/04/2024 21:28

Me too. Apart from one week of uncomfortable heat in June 2023 it has rained continuously for the last 18 months, or that's how it feels.

SabreIsMyFave · 08/04/2024 21:29

I agree 100%. And I am sick of saying I am sick of the weather now! 😆

6 months of shitty SHITTY weather. Rain, wind, hail, rain, an hour of sun, rain rain rain, floods, puddles, high winds, cold cold shivering! Can't do anything. Can't plan anything. Don't know what to wear, ever!

We better have a bloody good summer after this! I know some people say you can make the most of it, and life is what you make it yada yada, but it's just SHIT trying to do anything in the fuck-twatting RAIN! And it's all we have had for about 85% of the past half a year. Even if I have a raincoat on/a brolly, I don't want to walk in torrential fucking rain for hours! It's no fun. You can't even take photographs!

The amount of football matches, and netball and cricket and outdoor shit that has had to be cancelled in my local town is farcical, and frustrating. (And in some cases costly!) Everywhere outside is utterly saturated and bogged down. And people have had their car wheels and suspension fucked, because loads of potholes are full of rain, so they can't see them!

So many disadvantages to this weather, it's impossible to try and find the good in it and 'have fun!' I am a cheery positive person for the most part, and this weather is making me feel blue, low, fed up, and grumpy. I wish it would fuck off!

Umm yes I am in 'Scotland or somewhere', there are 5 million of us, believe it or not some of us even have internet now. I'm truly not exaggerating, you can see from the other Scots on the thread (hello! Great to finally have dial-up eh?).

Could you relocate? It sounds terrible

Autumn1990 · 08/04/2024 21:30

We live on the east coast so in theory it should be drier. It someone told me last week we haven’t had 24 hours without rain since October.
my kitchen roof is leaking in two areas and the builders told me they can’t fix it until they get a dry day!

KoolKookaburra · 08/04/2024 21:30

If fed up of drying my washing inside

SabreIsMyFave · 08/04/2024 21:32

Well you've not lost your sense of humour! Grin

Second only to the irritant that is this constant bad weather are the terminally positive people who just see it as a chance to splash in puddles and embrace the mud, the cold, the wet with a huge smile on their smug faces. 😁 For others it affects their mental health, their (in my case) property, their heating bills etc. This rain is not all ‘sunshine and roses’ for everyone. Grrrr

MaidOfSteel · 08/04/2024 21:34

I'm finding the miserable winters hard to cope with, too. Add to that the endless cloudy &/or rainy spring & summer here in western Scotland and it's almost unbearable. We've booked a winter sun holiday for next winter as a result. Hope it makes a difference.

Agreed. Thankfully I don’t know anyone like this in IRL 😂

ByUmberViewer · 08/04/2024 18:35

I agree with you OP.

You are going to get loads of people come on here now say "there's no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothing". But we all know we can wear a mac for walking from the car to the door in the rain. It's all the other stuff we can't do that makes it depressing.

Global warming I think is to blame. We are having more "monsoon" like seasons, where we have a hot summer and a rainy rest of the year.

But this is not what countries with monsoon seasons are like. I’m in one now and it’s high twenties day and night every day. It’s also very sunny when it’s not raining. I’m really liking the break from the cold in the UK

Murkierwaters · 08/04/2024 19:47

Even during the 3.5 nice days each summer that we get the beautiful local park just smells of warmed up dog shit

This made me laugh😆but yeah its grim out there.

Don't forget big sloppy jumpers, cosy snuggles on the sofa, jigsaws, and HOT CHOCOLATE!

Octomingo · 08/04/2024 21:38

I run all year round. In all weathers. I actually prefer running in the cold to the heat.

But for anything else, absolutely anything, I'd prefer it to be dry.
At the minute you can't:
sit in the garden
Do much gardening (shovelling wet mud is torture)
Stand and chat to neighbours
Stroll through the woods
Feel warm sun on your face
Plan to spend the whole day outside
See blue skies
Feel the joy of spring

I’m hoping in the future (when I retire) I might be able to do those long holiday rentals (3 months?) during the winter in a warmer place as this country seems to have ten months of winter and two (if we’re lucky) of summer. As I get older I get more sick of it.

Fizbosshoes · 08/04/2024 21:38

I run 4-5 times a week. I go out in all weathers but I don't love wind and rain. By this time of year I usually like to use paths and footpaths but loads are still like a bog with ankle deep mud or puddles.
Even some of the xc races were cancelled because the ground was so waterlogged there was no suitable parking

peloton2024 · 08/04/2024 21:40

Bet those 3 no rain days are rainy Grin

Sick of this fucking weather. No wonder we are all ill and fat.
Applesonthelawn · 08/04/2024 21:40

It's really no reason to be fat, or ill come to it. Fair enough you don't like it but I don't like summer weather and still manage the self-discipline required to have some semblance of normal life even then.

Was just thinking this. I have no inclination to ride. He is wet, on limited turnout, with limited grass and just generally out of sorts. He now has mud fever. I’m tired of mud and mucking out twice a day and a huge hay bill and everyone down the yard being grumpy. It’s hard bloody work .
