Sick of this fucking weather. No wonder we are all ill and fat.

The heating has been on at home at some point every day for the past 7 months. I’ve no inclination to get out and walk or do anything at all after work. I come home and cook comfort food as there’s sod all else to do. Drying washing everywhere, house always looks untidy.

It’s always cold, dark, rainy, depressing. If we’re lucky we’ll get 2-3 months of a bit of warmth and sunshine before it all starts waning towards winter again.

No wonder there’s lots of bugs and colds around, we’re all indoors all the time! Couple the shitty weather with high costs of living, crap public services and it makes me wonder why I didn't feck off to Australia when I was younger.

No point to this post, just a moan!

No. Why, will you?

im out in all weathers. Why does rain make people scared to go out?

It makes me scared because I’m much more likely to fall, and my walking stick skids on the wet ground, and if I need to go further (which entails a wheelchair) I risk getting stuck in the mud.

No such thing as bad weather just bad clothes.

I'm sure that's helpful if you're in a tornado to remind yourself it's not that bad, you just need better clothes

What a supremely ridiculous post! Did you even bother reading my post properly - and the one I was responding to?!!!

@alwayscrashinginthesamecar1 said

I am also in Oz (Perth) and we have only had 21.8 mm of rain since October, the lowest on record. I can't say I've missed the UK rain, especially after reading this thread.

And I responded to her, saying of COURSE her weather has been better than the UK, and nice and dry since October, because it's been Spring and Summer in Australia, and it's been Autumn and Winter in the UK!

I know Australia has 'different climate zones' ... I'm not fucking thick. But this has naff-all to do with what I was saying. Different climate zones make no difference to the fact that it was still Spring and Summer in Australia, and it was Autumn and Winter here in the UK. So err, yeah, the weather IS going to be better in Australia over Spring and Summer, than in the UK over that period. No matter where in Australia you are.🙄

Your comprehension skills are shocking mate! #cringingforyou

Don't have time to scroll through everything you write. Just that bit was egregiously limited. And wrong.

InTheUpsideDownToday · 09/04/2024 23:47

Yes it's the mud round here when you do venture out for a walk.
Poor cat isn't happy, he keeps wandering from door to door hoping the weather will be better out of the other one.
It's been really cold again too today, and windy and more rain.

Airspice · 09/04/2024 23:50

RafaistheKingofClay · 08/04/2024 18:34

I like a good walk in all weathers but even I’m sick of the endless mud and rain and wind.

Yep me too, I’ve walked in all sorts but I’m getting pretty sick of it now

Rhaenys · 10/04/2024 00:26

There was a similar thread on here a few weeks ago and I was thinking that it’s not been so bad for me, but the wind the last couple of days has been driving me insane. I’ve been fine until now, but we’re nearly half way through spring ffs 🤬

QuestionableMouse · 10/04/2024 01:02

CeriB82 · 09/04/2024 22:49

No. Why, will you?

im out in all weathers. Why does rain make people scared to go out?

Because I'm already struggling with my health. Getting cold and wet means my chronic pain gets much worse, I feel unwell and it takes me ages to get warm again.

It's this fucking ableist smuggery that really pisses me off.

Teenagehorrorbag · 10/04/2024 01:56

Totally agree! We bought our house 20 years ago. We have no mains drains but a septic tank at the lowest point of the garden. The water table is now so high it has been up to or above the top of the tank for the last four months.

The garden is under water in several places, as are the fields where DH and the children keep their horses. But the septic tank is a real problem, the drains can't empty into it so when it's really high the sewage backs up all over the back porch area (including poo and lots of tissue paper). We can't use the downstairs loo, the place stinks and I have to take my washing to grandmas.

It has been on and off since before Christmas. Luckily we are slightly better at the moment and can use the washing machine occasionally. The smell has gone but we only flush when we have to and put paper in a bin rather than flushing. When I shower I turn the water off for the bit where I soap myself while the conditioner is on my hair.

This is hell on earth - and only going to get worse. Climate change means wetter and wetter winters, apparently.......

I'd feck off to almost anywhere else tomorrow if I could - but the house is now unsellable so I am stuck forever.........

I'd love to hear more about how you did this. What sort of jobs you have, if you speak multiple languages, etc. DH and I are stuck in crappy NHS healthcare jobs with no prospects, trapped with the promise of a pension when we're 70 if we're lucky. I don't think I can do this for 40 more years.

We have both worked online since 2020. My husband works in tech and I’m a psychotherapist. We definitely need my husband’s salary to live here-I don’t earn enough alone.

Costa Rica doesn’t care where you earn your money from abroad, or tax it. They just want you to spend it here.

We both speak French and Spanish, but that shouldn’t be a barrier - you can learn the language when you get to your country of choice. We were not very good at Spanish when we arrived.

Lots of people are retiring abroad these days - it’s a lot easier to do it later in life when you don’t have the pressure of earning money.

Obviously every country has its issues. Here we have dirt roads, water shortages in dry season, intense rain at times in rainy season, no Uber, no Amazon-we don’t even have addresses, police who probably won’t come if you call, the power goes out constantly and the nearest hospital is 1.5 hours away by car. You really are fending for yourself here. But, we have jungle, nature, beautiful beaches, beautiful waves, fresh tropical fruit, warm weather all year round and lovely people - both local and from all over the world and no military. Some of the issues have workarounds eg solar, back up water tanks etc.

Some countries are not open to everyone, obviously. Costa Rica wants foreigners with money though! You can be a tourist here, work abroad paying
no CR income tax (ob you have to pay tax where you earn the money) and leave every 6 months, then return to get another 6 months. You can also become a resident but that requires more hoop jumping.

You need courage to take a leap of faith and you need a plan for how to earn enough money, but I think it’s much easier now than it ever has been to live abroad with remote working, the ability to run businesses online from anywhere etc.

NeverBeforeToday · 09/04/2024 23:03

Agree. Ugly waterproof clothes are so very bad. Hate wearing the stuff!

i hate the bad weather / clothes thing. For me it’s not just about the rain, it’s the grey and lack of sun in general. I find it so depressing and genuinely struggle when it’s constantly wet and grey. Wearing a rain coat really doesn’t fix that.

HolidayAtNight · 10/04/2024 06:12

peloton2024 · 09/04/2024 23:16

Well yes, if you spend enough money on truly breathable waterproofs then that hurricane shouldn't stop you from taking the DC on a lovely nature walk.

garlictwist · 10/04/2024 06:17

Yesterday it was 7 degrees and chucked it down all day. After work the sun came out so DP and I decided to go for a walk only to find there was a biting cold wind that made it all very windswept and unpleasant and we could hardly stand up straight in it when we reached the open fields of the park so sacked it off.

Oh my God I give up. 🙄 I never said Oz/NZ had constant rain in the Autumn/Winter. I said to a poster who lives in Oz - who said the weather there had been better than ours in the UK since October - 'Of COURSE the weather has been better for you- than us in the UK since October, because you have had Spring and Summer over those months, while we have had Autumn and Winter!'

You are ANOTHER one with poor comprehension who is not reading my posts properly.

I am not engaging with anyone else on this. I don't know how many more fucking times I can repeat myself!

Edited

I have got good comprehension skills, and I understood that you were pointing out that the good weather the other poster was describing was over spring and summer rather than the autumn and winter. However, what some of us are trying to point out is that the autumn and winter in Australia is never going to be as miserable as what the weather in the UK has been. Even when we do get a lot of rain in this part of the world it just doesn't last as long as it does over there, it never has and it never will. This thread is about constant wet weather after all.

nothingsforgotten · 10/04/2024 06:37

innerdesign · 09/04/2024 22:54

Err, that's what PP was saying. I think you've misread/misunderstood her post, which is ironic given your little dig at her comprehension..!

The PP pointed out that it was spring and summer in Australia so couldn't be compared to autumn and winter in the UK - intimating that come the colder seasons it would be wet in Australia surely? I am pointing out that here it is autumn and we are in a drought. It won't be anything like as wet in Australia whether it is autumn or winter - even the recently flooding in NSW was followed by better weather. The PP seems unable to accept that the UK weather is shit - even in summer!

AtomicBlondeRose · 10/04/2024 06:53

I love the classic Mumsnet cognitive dissonance of insisting that a walk in the pouring rain is pure joy, while admitting in the same sentence it’s because there’s nobody else outside.

If something is fun, free and generally nice to do it is usually very popular (hence the traffic at Dovedale on a sunny day), so if nobody else wants to do something, surely that’s a very good sign that it’s actually a bit shit?

RampantIvy · 10/04/2024 06:54

Well said @AtomicBlondeRose

Howlongdoesittake · 10/04/2024 07:05

It’s a fucking nightmare. I have sheep that have been in for months as fields flooded and it’s costing me a bloody fortune in feed. Farmers round here haven't been able to get spring crops in so there will be a knock on affect on food prices.
But animals still have to be fed and dogs walked so i am fit and not fat, but i am grumpy. Can’t wait for some heat.
On the bright side the days are longer and the dawn chorus is glorious, lambs are in the fields (not mine unfortunately) and summer is on it’s way.

alwayscrashinginthesamecar1 · 10/04/2024 07:12

SabreIsMyFave · 09/04/2024 11:33

But to be fair, it's been Spring and Summer in Australia! And whilst we are pretty much all sick of the rain over here, it's has been mostly Autumn and Winter that we have had it. Your sunny, dry/hardly any rain past 6 months has been Spring and Summer where you are. The two situations are incomparable.

And we do often get nice Springs. And sometimes get nice Summers. I would say 1 in 3 Summers are a bit shit, 1 in 3 are OK (50-50 sun and drizzle,) and 1 in 3 are great.

Anyway, despite the shitty weather over the past 6 months, I would take living in the UK over Australia any day of the week.

Yes it has been spring and summer, I was just pointing out that it has actually been unusually dry here in contrast to your unusually wet weather. And I know exactly what UK weather is like, considering I lived in the UK and Ireland for over forty years. Our winters are sunnier than UK summers (it is a sunny 29 degrees today) but feels cooler, more like 23 or 24, so I will always be happy that we made the big move. YMMV.

anythinginapinch · 10/04/2024 07:17

God the absolute lack of understanding on this thread that other people are not like oneself, coupled with the firm belief that one's own tolerance levels are right and sensible and should be followed by everyone else, is adding more misery to life - as though the miserable weather want enough

BezMills · 10/04/2024 07:29

it actually looks nice out today and isn't blowing a hoolie! I've been lied to before, and the trust is gone, but I remain hopeful we can have some decent weather!

Jumpers4goalposts · 10/04/2024 07:29

LuckySantangelo35 · 09/04/2024 22:59

Why is it so hard for some people to just admit that we are having bad weather?!

it’s so weird

its not as if the weather is some sentient being - it’s doesn’t need you to defend it

if it’s shit it’s shit and people can say it all they want.

Because some people like rain and storms. Some people like wintery weather. Not everyone has to like the same as you.

Jumpers4goalposts · 10/04/2024 07:32

peloton2024 · 09/04/2024 23:16

Because some people like rain and storms. Some people like wintery weather. Not everyone has to like the same as you.

We've had shit weather since last summer. Even those who like wintery weather are beginning to get sick of the wind and heavy rain. Houses and businesses have flooded, fields are too wet for crops and I want to go out without having to wear boots and a bloody coat.

TubeScreamer · 10/04/2024 07:40

I’ve definitely been walking less in recent weeks because it’s dangerous and unpleasant to walk around the muddy fields, slipping and sliding and getting stuck in deep mud. I broke my arm a couple of years ago slipping on mud so am always a bit wary. Each time the fields start to dry out it rains again.
