Sick of this fucking weather. No wonder we are all ill and fat.

The heating has been on at home at some point every day for the past 7 months. I’ve no inclination to get out and walk or do anything at all after work. I come home and cook comfort food as there’s sod all else to do. Drying washing everywhere, house always looks untidy.

It’s always cold, dark, rainy, depressing. If we’re lucky we’ll get 2-3 months of a bit of warmth and sunshine before it all starts waning towards winter again.

No wonder there’s lots of bugs and colds around, we’re all indoors all the time! Couple the shitty weather with high costs of living, crap public services and it makes me wonder why I didn't feck off to Australia when I was younger.

No point to this post, just a moan!

It's feckin pouring and the wind is howling, I can absolutely guarantee that I would NOT feel better if I just 'tried sitting out' 😳

😂

This was my drive home from work!

The water was up to about two foot deep. Absolutely shit. 😔

RampantIvy · 09/04/2024 18:22

Looks grim @QuestionableMouse.
I hope you got home safely.

Who are these masochists who think that being out in that is "fun"?

BeauSignoles · 09/04/2024 18:23

We moved overseas: 300 days of annual sunshine, it changed our lives, we're constantly outdoors. I sometimes miss the uk but will never live there again.

SovietSpy · 09/04/2024 18:24

BBC news / Met office etc: most rainfall since records began, news reports of flooding and impact to farming and businesses

MN: it’s hardly rained here. People are overreacting. Just buy a waterproof coat and go out. I hiked 14 hours in the rain what’s your excuse.

🙄 Honestly it’s maddening. The weather has been continually shit for months. I don’t care if one corner of Essex is sunny today, good for you. The rest of us have been stuck under rain and grey clouds for weeks and just want a good rant about it.

@SabreIsMyFave
where are you? Brazil?! It's been raining 80% of the day today, and with winds of 40mph! (And 1 degree C windchill earlier!) It's the bloody middle of Spring! This has been typical weather in the UK for MONTHS now.

😂 Sunny Essex, it was nice yesterday too until the evening when we had a few showers

It's only been dry and sunny since 2.30. my washing is still on the line from yesterday. Hoping it actually dries before it's soaked again. 3 degrees this morning.

And rained both yesterday and today. Also in Essex

MrsSunshine2b · 09/04/2024 18:25

It's rubbish and depressing. But you're bound to get the "jUst PUt oN wARm CloTHeS!" brigade on Mumsnet. Like as if waddling around in knee high mud like Michelin Man is in any way a similar experience to a stroll in the sunshine.

I did, thanks! Ended up giving someone a lift because she has a low sports car and was stranded at the farm! 😔

My feet are like blocks of ice atm, seriously considering a hot water bottle and bed to get warm!

NeverBeforeToday · 09/04/2024 18:29

From an aesthetic point of view, I really don’t want to look like an advert for Mountain Warehouse. Waterproofs and fleeces are very much the wrong kind of clothes for me 🤷🏼‍♀️

I don’t think they do really. It’s just another one of those online situations where it’s no big deal to a person that is far superior to my pathetic, wimpy self who hates cold, wet, windy weather and runs back indoors after putting the bins out.

BrieHugger · 09/04/2024 18:32

It’s a lovely sunny evening here, bit breezy and not hot enough, but I’ve had all the bedding on the line this aft and it’s totally dry. Today is also the first day we’ve not put the heating on.

That said, it’s been a bloody boring winter - not stupidly cold but no proper snow either - and it’s gone on far too long. Anyone up for a thunderstorm? I fancy something exciting to look at.

Anotheranxiousone · 09/04/2024 18:37

@BeauSignoles i keep seriously considering this but not in a position to move atm. Have you stayed within Europe? Language barrier puts me off a bit as well :/

I've got dogs. There is a saying "no such thing as bad weather just inappropriate clothing". No idea where you live, but here in the SE UK,it was 18c today, shorts and t shirt. Yesterday cloudless sky, warm out of the wind. Took dogs and DGS to Forest about 8 miles away,he was climbing trees, playing with the dogs. Easter weather was nice, just a few showers one afternoon. When my DKS were small, I couldn't afford the electric fire, I bunged them in a pram, pushchair, because it always felt warmer when I went back indoors.

18°C??? Shorts and tshirt? Bloody hell!! You'd be hospitalised with hypothermia up here if you were cutting about in shorts and tshirt! Real feel temperature is -2°C. Can't even walk 10 feet in front of you as the wind is so strong - not to mention how the horizontal driving rain cuts the face right off you. It's like being sandblasted. Spray from cars on the road going 12 feet in the air. Wind gusting at 40mph every bloody day.

Anyone giving it the big one about putting on their wellies and heading out for some "fresh air" should spend a week up here in the North East of Scotland. That would blow the smug look right off their faces.

Mouldiwarp1 · 09/04/2024 18:39

A lot of fucking Pollyannas on here today!

Kerflapperty · 09/04/2024 18:49

The puddlesuit wankers has won this thread for me today. Come back when your kids are older and start pushing back on those fun walks, even on a good day.

Hippobot · 09/04/2024 18:53

Every week there's another yellow, amber or red weather warning to here. The ground never gets a chance to dry enough before the next deluge. Entire roads have been destroyed by floods. If it weren't for bloody Brexshit I'd be packing up and moving.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 09/04/2024 18:55

Puddlesuit wankers

😂😂😂

6ft dd 17 won’t go out in the rain.

Hobnobswantshernameback · 09/04/2024 19:02

Oh and good luck to those think positive types when we have food shortages in a few months if the weather doesn't improve.
The soil is already a complete mess and farmers will be late planting.
Livestock also really suffering in his weather and dairy farmers struggling with feed for the cows so milk and dairy produce will be more expensive
But hey such fun in those puddle suits

AllTheChaos · 09/04/2024 19:03

Hah! I bet the ‘just put on warm clothes and enjoy the great outdoors’ types aren’t trying to do it whilst semi-disabled, with Raynauds, and a maximum walking speed approximately that of a grumpy 2 year old who doesn’t want to go somewhere. Oh, and a tiny, overcrowded house, with no dryer and radiators covered in drying laundry for the last 7 months!
It’s almost like, shock horror, we all have different lives, likes, and ability levels, and what works for one may not work for all!

LaPalmaLlama · 09/04/2024 19:05

I'm going to add "puddle suit wanker" to my imaginary best selling t-shirt range which currently only includes "fucking grifter".

VeneziaJ · 09/04/2024 19:12

I am both ill and fat 😂 and I do not blame either on the weather, but on my own poor mental health. however I do agree that the near constant rain, bloody cold and sky high cost of living are hugely depressing and in my case are making my depression much much worse😳

Flippingnora100 · 09/04/2024 19:13

I haven’t read any of the responses, but just wanted to say that OP, you’re right. Weather-wise, England is crap. But, having moved country a few times, I feel like if you are brave and willing to take some risks, you could dramatically improve your quality of life by moving somewhere that suits you better. It’s not this crazy impossibility-it can be done! We live in Costa Rica and we love it. I drop my kids off at school, surf in warm water-no wetsuit needed, then start work online. We have lots of family time together surfing, skateboarding, going to the beach for sunset, playing tennis etc. I used to live in Brighton and work in Kentish Town. I remember walking the pavements with wet feet from the rain seeping through my shoes and commuting on smelly trains. No thanks!

You do need money to move, but if you’re willing to commit to the idea, sometimes where there’s a will, there’s a way! Life is too short to be miserable unless you have absolutely no choice. I would encourage you to brainstorm about what possibilities might be open to you, rather than resigning yourself to a shit, unhealthy life.

I fear your tone and suggestions may be a bit too positive for this thread
