Sick of this fucking weather. No wonder we are all ill and fat.

The heating has been on at home at some point every day for the past 7 months. I’ve no inclination to get out and walk or do anything at all after work. I come home and cook comfort food as there’s sod all else to do. Drying washing everywhere, house always looks untidy.

It’s always cold, dark, rainy, depressing. If we’re lucky we’ll get 2-3 months of a bit of warmth and sunshine before it all starts waning towards winter again.

No wonder there’s lots of bugs and colds around, we’re all indoors all the time! Couple the shitty weather with high costs of living, crap public services and it makes me wonder why I didn't feck off to Australia when I was younger.

No point to this post, just a moan!

I go out
EVERY DAY
I'd just like to do it and feel a bit of sun in my face
telling people to go out it and that will solve everything is so patronising
Most people are saying that they do try but that it's not pleasant
which bit of that is so fucking difficult to understand

MintTwirl · 09/04/2024 14:45

9C here, 40mph wind and raining. Of course all I need to do it sit o it side my front door for 10 minutes every hour 😂

Was only thinking back to 2020 - April May June - all blooming marvellous - at least we didn't have this amount of rain in lockdown

I'm sure the people in flats with no outdoor space feel better that they were stuck indoors in beautiful weather

Go to the gym! Had a lovely swim yesterday followed by a very warm sauna

I went to the gym this morning at 6.30...to find they don't have a sauna or swimming pool - I did feel a bit daft hanging round the weights section in my cozzie and goggles.

I want to go outside at a time when I am not at work so the weekend say? And not to have it blowing a gale, raining or be knee deep in mud. I like the outside, I am happy to walk in rains and gales, but it's been rain and gales a long time now, and, like many people on this thread I want a bit of sunshine in the outside.

@fightingthedogforadonut what nonsense. It has been the wettest 18 months since 1836. Nobody has forgotten what is normal weather this time of year, we know it is not normally this wet.

I was going to say similar. It's the wettest in over 100 years so no one will have experienced the same in previous winters and got over it by wearing a proper coat!
Rain and wind on this level isnt the same as every other spring.

However April can be virtually any weather- there was snow in 2016 and after the beast from the east in 2018, we went from baltic to 25°c in the space of a week, bypassing any sort of spring altogether!

cliovillee · 09/04/2024 14:52

I don't think anyone expects it to be blazing sunshine all throughout April. I suspect most of us would settle for having just one or two dry days a week.

willWillSmithsmith · 09/04/2024 14:52

Yay! Today so far no rain. Sky is blue with some clouds but gawd it’s freezing. So I’m going to complain about that instead 😁

NoisySnail · 09/04/2024 14:57

I am not even looking for sunshine. I just want it to stay dry enough for long enough to get rid of some of the mud and stop my garden being so waterlogged.

InfoComet · 09/04/2024 15:02

For me, it's not that the weather every day is terrible, I'm managing to get out and stay dry to walk the dogs most of the time. It's what the relentless rain has done to the ground. Some areas where we walk are flooded and impassable, I've frequently used the dogs to gauge the depth of puddles. Other areas are a quagmire, clay mud that threatens to suck your boots from your feet or that sort of mud where the top 2 inches slips effortlessly over the ground underneath so it's like walking on an ice rink. None of these things are enjoyable, irrespective of what clothing i'm wearing!

Squidlette · 09/04/2024 15:02

My camellia flowered for the first time this year. One pink flower. I was so proud.
Bastard wind has blown it off, but to add insult to injury, the flower is a foot away. I can't sellotape it back on cos it's too wet.

Couldn't agree more! I mean obviously you can put good waterproofs on and go for a walk in the rain and it will be fine but surely no one would rather walk in the rain, knee deep in mud than on a lovely dry day where you can wear trainers instead of sinking up to your knees in wellies! The sunshine makes everything happier.

reesewithoutaspoon · 09/04/2024 15:10

I have been going out, but every single time it has lashed down, and my glasses get wet. I can't see and the ground is either a lake or the mud is so deep that it goes over the top of my walking boots.
I expect that on the occasional walk in winter/early spring. But this is every feckin walk now. loads of routes impassable due to knee-deep mud or flooding. it's not enjoyable. not to mention the clean-up when I get home and the wait for my gear to get clean and dry before I can use it again.
I don't enjoy tramping around tarmac or pavements, but the countryside is just saturated.
It's the fact there has been no let-up, none whatsoever for 6 months.
The ground is so waterlogged now, that even a few days isn't enough to dry it out and make it walkable.

LittleMissUnreasonable · 09/04/2024 15:14

I always roll my eyes playing MN bingo from those claiming they haven't had their heating above 12oc since 2017 or a brisk 20 mile walk in waterproofs and wellies will cheer you up.

No. Some people just need sun. I didn't realise how much the weather affected my mood until I woke up one morning a few weeks ago and it was actually sunny! I threw open the curtains, got all the windows open and felt amazing. By 10am it had clouded over and started pissing down again.

I don't think we're asking for much really. Just a few days a month where we can actually see a bit of Blue sky and be able to walk to the corner shop without having wrap up like the Michelin man.

Violinist64 · 09/04/2024 15:14

Flanders and Swann had it right decades ago with their parody of the children’s weather of the year poem. It is on YouTube - The Weather Song - but I am unable to provide the link. Perhaps someone else could, if they are able. Here in the East Midlands, we are experiencing April showers, which is only to be expected, but this is on top of the deluge we have had for the past year. It is between 8 and 10 degrees today with high winds. We have had some days like yesterday where I have been able to get the washing dry and the high winds have certainly helped. I don’t mind the wind, but the seemingly endless grey skies and rain do little to lift the mood.

But that’s all part of the ‘fun’ isn’t it? Personally, whenever it’s lashing down I get my umbrella out, put a hat on and start “singin’ and dancin’ in the rain”, splashing in puddles and climbing on street lamps, honing my tap dancing skills, sometimes I’ll even give a cheeky grin to passing copper. Honestly it’s the absolute most fun ever!

QuestionableMouse · 09/04/2024 15:28

I hate it too. I have appropriate clothing and boots but that doesn't help when everywhere is mud and I'm scared I'm going to fall and hurt myself. It's also utterly exhausting when you have any sort of chronic illness - it was warm and a bit sunny the other day and I felt so much better! I woke up this morning aching all over because it's so damp and yuck and I'm totally over it 😭😐

@willWillSmithsmith I'm visualising you doing a Mary poppins Dick van Dyke, shimmying up drainpipes etc

Moveoverdarlin · 09/04/2024 15:34

It’s woeful. We’ve had a family birthday this week and by this point of the year we usually have the garden furniture out, we’ve had Easter egg hunts, jet washed the patio, put away big winter coats and scarves but it’s still freezing and wet. The mud is relentless.

I’m in the SW.

I'm imagining you standing outside on top of a peat bog, railing at the skies Grin.

Or maybe you are sinking, it's very easy to sink in a peat bog!

I'm tempted to rail at the skies but I get rain in my eyes when I do that and I hate that even more.
Get your footing wrong in the field and you sink down to your knees. I don't need wellies I need a full dry suit to cope with these conditions.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 09/04/2024 15:48

9 degrees, blowing a gale and raining sideways here.
