Sick of this fucking weather. No wonder we are all ill and fat.

The heating has been on at home at some point every day for the past 7 months. I’ve no inclination to get out and walk or do anything at all after work. I come home and cook comfort food as there’s sod all else to do. Drying washing everywhere, house always looks untidy.

It’s always cold, dark, rainy, depressing. If we’re lucky we’ll get 2-3 months of a bit of warmth and sunshine before it all starts waning towards winter again.

No wonder there’s lots of bugs and colds around, we’re all indoors all the time! Couple the shitty weather with high costs of living, crap public services and it makes me wonder why I didn't feck off to Australia when I was younger.

No point to this post, just a moan!

Waterproof jackets and trousers are all very well, but it's doesn't help if you wear glasses. I have to keep stopping to wipe them otherwise I can't see. Not fun.

Agreed. The worst is when the rain splashes between the frame and the eye. My eyes get really sore from having rain flicked into them.

lovescats3 · 09/04/2024 10:14

In London weather has not been ok for months, have struggled to do even short walks

I am not sure about the ducks actually. I live near a couple of ponds and the ducks tend to stay tucked up whenever it’s raining heavily. They are nesting right now. I feel sorry for them.

Oh really? For some reason I thought they like rain? That, 'water off a duck's back' expression. In that case, I feel sorry for them too.
To be honest, it hasn't been nearly as rainy where I live than in other parts of the country. So that's possibly clouded my judgement. Maybe if I was in a part of the country where it's been relentless, even I (a rain lover) would be fed up with it.
It's been a manageable amount where I live.

lovescats3 · 09/04/2024 10:15

Quite a few parks as well which have not been tarmacked properly those paths are flooded

HolidayAtNight · 09/04/2024 10:15

There are no clothes in existence that mean you don't experience the weather. The rain still gets blown into your face, and as PP have mentioned, it's worse if you wear glasses. Your hair gets flattened by hoods, and frizzes up from the moisture if you're prone to that. Even with "breathable" waterproofs there's a waterproofed-sweatiness trade off, and the steamed-up feeling of going into a heated building in wet clothes is horrible. The "no bad weather, only bad clothes" thing is just smug nonsense.

lovescats3 · 09/04/2024 10:16

Well said holiday at night

Cotonsugar · 09/04/2024 10:16

I live in a rainy part of the country but have only not been outside maybe twice in the last few months. No choice but to go out because I have two dogs so have at least one walk a day. I’ve been a dog owner for thirty years so rarely not walking and I’m healthy, don’t remember when I last had a cold. Fed up with having to wash towels that I use on the dogs and my garden is a bog but hey, it will get better at some point 😊

mummydoris2006 · 09/04/2024 10:17

It's relentless and I've had enough of it too @Wayofliving and if I hear one more time about the right type of clothes etc I might actually explode!

My DD17 mends combine harvesters all day, comes home soaked to the skin and then has to see to her horse who is caked in mud and needs rugs changing etc. Then if there is the tinniest glimmer of dry weather she jumps in a tractor and starts drilling the fields with her boyfriend hoping to have everything done ready for harvest before the rain starts again. Often she'll work 19 hour days at the weekend to try and outrun the weather.

On Friday I'm meant to fly to Turkey for some much needed sun, however that's now unable to happen after my DH45 has had a second heart attack 6 weeks ago and isn't well enough to go. Nevermind, we thought, we'll have a mini break in England. The wind that is forecast is too dangerous for him to be in at the minute which means we're stuck at home. We live in Skegness which although a holiday resort is as miserable and grey as the rest of the country at the minute.

Maybe the posters who tell us it's a mindset etc aren't actually governed by the weather as much as others, my chronic health issues flare up with the cold weather, I suffer from S.A.D and I just want to see my DH looking healthier, something some sun on his skin will help with.

I think the expression just means that they're waterproof!
They don't like direct rain and often shelter.

Apparently they (ducks) and some other creatures do like it. But, maybe not to the extent it's been?

Our north facing garden is basically a swamp. Clay soil. I fell on my arse at the weekend just daring to step on the grass. I am absolutely sick of the rain. Just fucking stop raining for a month or two and give us a break.

Nannyfannybanny · 09/04/2024 10:21

I really don't care if people believe, why would I want to lie. I have explained where I live, often the rain falls on the south downs and doesn't reach us. Have you never driven anywhere one road apart a few feet raining in one not the the other, bone dry roads. My late parents house, often it was raining in the front garden not in the back. We have big veg plots often not enough rain,5 water butts, collected from the shower. If it's any consolation,we get very high winds, almost always when there is none in the next road

1mabon · 09/04/2024 10:21

..and I'm sick of you swearing.

RanSolar · 09/04/2024 10:21

I am feel a bit down about life atm. Plus some minor but difficult health problems (possible piles, skin infection, slight eye issue)

I woke up this morning to some sounds of gusts of wind and rain and it made me feel cosy!

Day off so considering going back to bed. Not sure I’d like it sunny when feeling like this.

For those struggling though. A cool spring may be a sign of a hot summer to come?!

PeaceandCakes · 09/04/2024 10:21

You clearly don't own or know what true waterproofs are that are breathable @HolidayAtNight

No need to use "..." on breathable.
They ARE breathable.
And only your outer clothes are wet so you take them off.

Invest in some quality outdoor clothing and you'll see.

@1mabon

im not sure who you’re talking to, but we’re all adults here and are allowed to swear. Soz.

RanSolar · 09/04/2024 10:23

We are all “allowed” to swear, but it’s mostly ugly and unnecessary- and it’s not compulsory.

BatteryPoweredPeacock · 09/04/2024 10:26

I am intrigued by this because, I swear, I've used almost all the common outdoor gear brands at one time or another and have not come across these magical truly breathable outerwear.

I am - genuinely - open to brand recommendations.

….in your opinion you mean

some people don’t find swearing particularly ugly and unnecessary. I don’t 🤷‍♀️

You can't take off your outer clothing if you're going into a shop or something. There's a big difference between going for a muddy hike and embracing the spirit of it, and day-to-day city life where you want to be comfortable in a variety of environments in the same day without looking like a drowned rat or dripping water onto nice floors.

I don't want to spend more money on practical clothing. That's why I'm joining in on this thread about complaining about the weather.

Also - this: "The rain still gets blown into your face, and as PP have mentioned, it's worse if you wear glasses." Unless we're meant to wear breathable waterproof fabric ski-mask-robber style over our faces.

catPA · 09/04/2024 10:29

I haven't noticed much rain really? In London. Its been windy over the weekend but I'd say it's been quite dry weather overall?

I noticed the Thames was very high though over the weekend so there is obviously a lot of rain elsewhere.

NeedToChangeName · 09/04/2024 10:31

Dontcallmescarface · 09/04/2024 09:09

Nowhere to put a tumble dryer in this house.

I agree with you OP. Hopefully the summer will be a long, hot one and anyone who moans about that should just remember..." no such thing as bad weather.....".

@Dontcallmescarface I'd recommend a heated drying rack. Mine is black and decker. It's great

Cavalierchaos · 09/04/2024 10:32

I hear you, OP. It is utterly miserable. I've got a puppy and I would love to be burning off his energy outside but it's tipping it down!! What a miserable Easter holiday this has been!

susansaucepan · 09/04/2024 10:36

My Solutions :

  1. I got a tumble dryer . No more wet clothes everywhere and no mould and mildew .

  2. Got a nice warm coat , not a flimsy fashion coat . This included trading my pretty wool peacoats for long sensible rain proof coats with hoods and zips .

  3. Got decent leather boots so that my feet are toasty all year round and I don't have to walk around in soggy trainers . Avoid suede boots they are a nightmare to keep clean in the rain .

  4. don't worry about going out everyday, we have indoor days , shopping mall days , soft play / trampoline centre days . But atleast couple times a week we go out in nature to local parks , nature parks , woods etc

  5. if need be just drive everywhere but anything is better than being stuck indoors by yourself or with young kids.
