Sick of this fucking weather. No wonder we are all ill and fat.

The heating has been on at home at some point every day for the past 7 months. I’ve no inclination to get out and walk or do anything at all after work. I come home and cook comfort food as there’s sod all else to do. Drying washing everywhere, house always looks untidy.

It’s always cold, dark, rainy, depressing. If we’re lucky we’ll get 2-3 months of a bit of warmth and sunshine before it all starts waning towards winter again.

No wonder there’s lots of bugs and colds around, we’re all indoors all the time! Couple the shitty weather with high costs of living, crap public services and it makes me wonder why I didn't feck off to Australia when I was younger.

No point to this post, just a moan!

So I definitely think a nice climate improves healthier choices and enhances socialisation etc.

Slightly off topic but I remember reading than warmer climates tend to have more extroverts and colder climates tend to have more introverts...

It's bad science, @Plumeface and has been debunked. You don't need to walk 10k steps a day.
It was a Japanese marketing ploy.

I daresay but still, the more steps the better I assume!

Corinthiana · 09/04/2024 08:53

Oh yes, exercise is good, but I think the fixation on 10k isn't a good thing! @Plumeface
You're walking, don't worry about the number of steps. Just keep active.

Blackcats7 · 08/04/2024 18:33

Try having a horse. It’s torture and most horsey people I know are really depressed and exhausted.
My friend has a family of ducks who have moved into her fields and it is suiting them far better than the poor horses.

"Try having a horse!"

Ha! Such a mumsnet response 🤣🐎

Andthereyougo · 09/04/2024 08:56

It’s blowing a gale. Again. It’s raining. Again. Just off to walk the dog through mud, rainwater then more mud. Everything stinks when we get home so bath dog, disinfectant bath for my wellingtons. Rinse and repeat twice a day.
It’s got to stop some time 😟. And this is close to South Coast @innerdesign. I’ve never seen so much standing water , lakes where there used to be fields.

Plumeface · 09/04/2024 08:56

I have to admit I'm grateful we don't have dogs when I see dog walkers scraping poo off the wet pavement at 8am.

I have two cats who are very firmly indoor only beings 😅

Tessisme · 09/04/2024 08:56

I find that getting out there, as some posters have advised, just makes me feel worse. Some of us are very badly affected by the gloominess. And I don't enjoy looking out at the buffeting winds with a mug of hot chocolate in my cupped hands, wearing a jumper where someone forgot to stop knitting the sleeves😆😆

Plumeface · 09/04/2024 08:58

I actually love being cosy on the sofa in winter, rain falling outside, with a good book and tea and cake.

I just don't want to do that in April!

We just don't seem to have seasons any more. We just have endless rain, wind and grey skies and then two weeks of blistering heat and then back to rain again.

Menomeno · 09/04/2024 08:58

SallyWD · 09/04/2024 08:43

We all know we have a slightly cool, wet climate here but I have to say it's been a particularly miserable winter/early spring. However, I do make an effort to be positive and get out every day. If I thought "Oh it's miserable out there!" and never went out I'd feel awful, mentally and physically. So I go out and I do my 10,000 steps each day and it really lifts my spirits.
Let's be honest, even though it's been exceptionally wet lately, it doesn't rain all day, every day. For example, yesterday we had a wet morning so I went out in the afternoon. It was actually warm and sunny.
I walk to and from work (3 miles each way) unless it's absolutely torrential. Usually the worst I'll get is a bit of drizzle. I don't arrive at work drenched. I wear a good coat and boots and am fine when I arrive at work.

I’m guessing you don’t live in the NW?

Witchbitch20 · 09/04/2024 09:00

Completely agree.

Coastalcreeksider · 09/04/2024 09:00

It's not raining at the moment, just a few spits on the window but the wind is pretty strong. My poor tulips are really being battered around. I won't be going out today till later but walking in this weather, no matter how I'm dressed is not for me I'm afraid.

Yesterday I drove past the creek down the road from me and the tide was so high it looked like the yachts were actually on the playing field that separates the creek from the road.

Some properties that are right by the water often flood up to the front door, so I dread to think how many sandbags they are using to keep the water at bay with the weather as it is.

Pickingmyselfup · 09/04/2024 09:00

It is absolutely miserable, I'm in full agreement!

I'm not ill or fat and I spend a lot of time outside running or walking the kids to school but if it's torrential I skip the run and drive to school because I don't want to get soaked. Running in waterproofs isn't appealing, they flap and get too hot. Walking in them is fine but you still end up soaked, the umbrella tries to fly away and a passing car goes too fast through a puddle and drenches you. I don't have time to go home and get changed before work or going back to get the kids a change of clothes because they got soaked too.

I have a couple of garden parties planned for summer this year, I have booked a bouncy castle, garden games and a hot tub but I am actually wondering if it will end up inside. Can't have a bouncy castle inside though so God knows what I'll do with a handful of a year olds. Booking a party is too expensive and with it being just before the summer holidays turn out is rubbish so pointless anyway. I can still use the hot tub but the garden games will be top cramped inside for even 6 adults and it's really not the vibe I was going for. I want a BBQ, sun, warmth, everyone is much happier when it's sunny.

So yes, whilst it's perfectly possible to dress for the rubbish weather and get out in it, it does not have the same appeal than even a mild sunny dry day. I don't know anyone who can argue that they prefer relentless rain to some dry sunny mild days.

Heard it all now. Just because you cannot be bothered to put on a bit of wet-weather clothing and go for a walk, rain is responsible for making you fat...
Yes, you should have 'fecked off' to Oz to chase the sun and a better body. Spoiler alert though, it does rain there too.

Comedycook · 09/04/2024 09:02

I honestly don't know what wet weather gear even is. Like what items of clothing does it actually encompass. I imagine I'd look like a total wally walking around suburban London fully done out in waterproofs. So what does it even mean. Also the weather goes from wet to dry in an instant so surely you then end up looking like a bit of a prat

Sonolanona · 09/04/2024 09:02

Unless I'm at work I have only worn wellies, since, well it feels like forever.
A dog and an allotment means I'm out in all weathers but I have to admit I am fed up of it.
Plus sometimes the best clothing in the world doesn't make up for the fact that being out in the rain just gets depressing. My house is muddy, the dog is muddy, my allotment is a swamp. The odd brighter day feels like a miracle but it's brief.

My DS1 moved to Australia 4 years ago and boy do I envy him, it's autumn there now and the weather is still wonderful!

I’m guessing you don’t live in the NW?

No but I do live in the North.

nothingsforgotten · 09/04/2024 09:04

My Australian friend loves it here, she said it’s too hot to even go out for most of the daylight hours, and can’t even swim outside. Everywhere has searing heat and she sits inside constantly working in the air conditioning and blinds down to keep the sunlight out.

What, the whole of Australia??? Take a look at a map of the place, it's huge. You surely don't think the whole country has the same weather?

Notjustabrunette · 09/04/2024 09:05

I’m assuming that you don’t have space for a dryer? I only got one last year and it was a game changer not to have laundry all over the place.
I also got a Fitbit and I do 10,000 steps most days. Part of this is due to school runs on my wfh days or walking to the office/station on office days. But often need to top up with a march around the block after dinner to reach my target.
At the weekends we have been doing activities that are physical, but are also indoors like swimming or bowling. My son’s swimming has really come on as a result and so has my bowling!
you are right, though the weather is miserable at the moment.

Nannyfannybanny · 09/04/2024 09:05

Believe all you like,it was a fact. We downsized, specially bought near the sea, countryside and milder area. Spent pension lump sum on solar panels, this month we have Made 136kw. All electric,so life revolves around them, washing done when it's dry,so I know how much rain/sun we have. Easter just a couple of showers one evening, otherwise sun. Before I get accused of being lucky or smug, I worked 50 years, often 4 jobs, the main one being already for time. As for pipes freezing in the 40s,we didn't have central heating in our last house till the mid 2000, because we couldn't afford to install it. And yes,it's sunny here at the moment!

KeepSmiling89 · 09/04/2024 09:05

@Plumeface totally agree! My mum's always saying that she would never get a dog because you have to walk it in all weathers - wet, windy etc when you'd rather just stay inside with a cuppa.

Allfur · 09/04/2024 09:06

I am happy to walk/run/cycle in the rain. I don't mind bad weather but appreciate that's just me. I'm also never ill, which maybe helps.

peloton2024 · 09/04/2024 09:07

Raining again here and windy
I finished work and went to Aldi yesterday, it started raining at 5pm just as I finished work and hasn't stopped since

MintTwirl · 09/04/2024 09:07

I am also fed up of it OP. The grey sky and the wind and rain is getting me down.

Dablikeacrap · 09/04/2024 09:08

I’m on the north Cornish coast. It’s been absolutely disgusting and I’m utterly sick of it

It’s really busy in town and I feel so bad for the families who have come here for a holiday as it’s been so wet and windy
