Accidentally made a massive lasagne and feel panicky

As title, really.

I made a vegetable lasagne this afternoon and it’s turned out much bigger than intended, with an estimated weight of around two stone.

Albeit very nice, it is rather rich for my taste, using cream cheese in lieu of béchamel, not to mention the secret layer of fresh basil leaves. It’s only me to eat it and I don’t think I can face it for some time after one more serving tomorrow. Freezer is full. Neighbours all vegan.

The huge lasagne is cooling off in my now extinguished oven while tough decisions are made. Feeling a bit hot and panicky about it.

What do?

I bet there's something old and manky looking in the freezer that could get ditched. Much better to skip some forgotten freezer burned stuff so there's room for lovely lasagne.

If you have any freezer items in card board boxes in the freezer (ice cream cones/lollies, breaded fish etc) unbox them to create extra space. Do you have kids? Can you get them to invite a friend for tea tomorrow (only friends who eat anything welcome on this occasion!)

I'd put a post on local Facebook page. Something along the lines of "Having over estimated the amount of available freezer space, I have x portions of homemade veggie lasagne available to a good home. Cooked this afternoon in a clean home kitchen. Collection only, please comment below with the number of portions you would like. First come, first served."

@TisTheDarnSeason There's not one part of the OPs post that indicates that is humour or lighthearted. If it is, it's a pretty piss poor attempt.

@NeverEnoughPants

’pony’ is rhyming slang for ‘crap’ - pony and trap

so I’m having salmon and asparagus gratin which is crap in comparison to a yummy lasagne

Fair enough, it's not lasagne, but salmon asparagus and cheese is never a bad thing!

Anameisaname · 08/04/2024 19:28

Remove à few things from the freezer for the next couple of days and replace with lasagne portions. Bin all your icecubes to make more space

Merryoldgoat · 08/04/2024 19:29

@gingercat02 to be fair it was very nice but I still want lasagne.

Northernsouloldies · 08/04/2024 19:44

How big is the dish!! A 28 pound lasagne.

There is zero indication in the OP that it's a joke

There is zero indication it is not. Though the feel of it would point that way.

I have no idea of the dietary preferences of my neighbours, I feel like I should go
knocking and ask!

You would know if they where vegan

IDidntWearASmileToday · 08/04/2024 20:01

I'm pregnant and fasting until a blood test tomorrow, can I come over for lunch?

Are you in SW London? If so I can be there within 40 mins 👌🏾

Same. Have car, will collect others.

PhilosophicalCheeseSandwich · 08/04/2024 18:07

Neighbours ALL vegan?!

I'm guessing she lives in Bristol.

Or Brighton.

SilverBranchGoldenPears · 08/04/2024 20:04

2 stone??? 2 stone???

TakingAMenopause · 08/04/2024 20:05

Merryoldgoat · 08/04/2024 18:47

No - pony!

How funny - I’ve used that for 30-odd years

I knew exactly what you meant. Standard expression in our (London) home.

Lifeetc · 08/04/2024 20:08

Olio it! Full list of ingredients it'll be gone so quickly!

I thought it was a typo of "phony" i.e. fake vegetarian/vegan "salmon"! 😅

JaffaCakesAreDisgusting · 08/04/2024 20:09

There's no such thing as "no room in the freezer" There's always room if you have the right mindset

NeverEnoughPants · 08/04/2024 20:11

I'm so glad it wasn't just me that didn't understand! I wondered if it was a typo for 'pink'.

Mirabai · 08/04/2024 20:13

Invite your friends over.

Me too. You can have my cream cheese.

Tickletuesday · 08/04/2024 20:13

Post a note on a local Facebook site. I’m sure there are families out there that would be grateful for a meal tomorrow.

Mirabai · 08/04/2024 20:15

Olio app - someone will come and pick it up tomorow.

Wilop · 08/04/2024 20:15

How do you accidentally make something so big? You’d notice as you were making it.

Mayflower282 · 08/04/2024 20:15

Have a serious clear out of your freezer, throw anything you haven’t eaten for more than 6 months! And throw last years ice lollies away!

Sorry, I don't understand

What are "last year's ice lollies"? Is this one of those things like "leftover wine"? People talk about them, but they don't actually exist...
