Accidentally made a massive lasagne and feel panicky

As title, really.

I made a vegetable lasagne this afternoon and it’s turned out much bigger than intended, with an estimated weight of around two stone.

Albeit very nice, it is rather rich for my taste, using cream cheese in lieu of béchamel, not to mention the secret layer of fresh basil leaves. It’s only me to eat it and I don’t think I can face it for some time after one more serving tomorrow. Freezer is full. Neighbours all vegan.

The huge lasagne is cooling off in my now extinguished oven while tough decisions are made. Feeling a bit hot and panicky about it.

What do?

Just throw it in the bin if you don't want it.

Merryoldgoat · 08/04/2024 18:38

LOL 🤣

’pony’ being the adjective 🤣

I'm no wiser.

I understand all the words. I just don't understand how they go together. I've tried googling "pony salmon" and "pony gratin" and nothing.

Does everyone else know what it means?

Shepadoodle · 08/04/2024 18:43

Is it better than everything else in your freezer? If faced with getting rid of a bag of veg or a fully cooked lasagne I'd choose the lasagne. I've only recently started batch cooking and one of my dishes is a veg lasagne. It tastes like hours or effort in minimal time when I reheat it. I can't believe I used to eat ready meals 🙈

Evenstar · 08/04/2024 18:44

@NeverEnoughPants I think it was meant to be poxy

Merryoldgoat · 08/04/2024 18:45

@NeverEnoughPants

’pony’ is rhyming slang for ‘crap’ - pony and trap

so I’m having salmon and asparagus gratin which is crap in comparison to a yummy lasagne

NeverDropYourMooncup · 08/04/2024 18:45

You're never more than six foot away from a County Level 6'4" teenaged boy with hollow legs in MNLand, so listen for the rumbling sounds of one returning from rugby training down the close. It'll do him for a pre-dinner snack.

Hoplolly · 08/04/2024 18:47

How can a lasagne make you panicky?

No - pony!

How funny - I’ve used that for 30-odd years

Ah ok. I've never heard that.

I was going to say this. Do you mean 2kg? My daughter weighs 2stone and I can barely lift her!

This whole post is surely a piss take

quizzys · 08/04/2024 18:48

You need to have a civilised midweek party. You know, the schoolnight ones where everyone SAYS they will drink fizzy water and somehow end up pissed as farts, and then the lasagne will be gone, gone forever and everyone will remember you for years. With gratitude since they didn't have to cook anything themselves on a Tuesday night.

maudelovesharold · 08/04/2024 18:49

you can't accidentally over make a lasagne and a very odd reaction if somehow you weren't aware of how many ingredients you were using

Maybe op misread ‘serves 14’ as ‘4’.

Hope you’re serving a massive salad with your massive lasagne, op!

Ionacat · 08/04/2024 18:49

I think you can give away portions on the Olio app. Might be worth giving it a go?

mathanxiety · 08/04/2024 18:50

Newbutoldfather · 08/04/2024 18:14

Is this an in joke?!

2 stone, 28 lbs, 12.7kgs? What oven would take that? How did you take it out of the oven?

Not buying it, sorry….

Exaggeration there was for literary effect, not meant literally.

I swear sometimes this place just feels like one long Viz Mr Logic comic strip...

It's humour. You know, lighthearted?

PossumintheHouse · 08/04/2024 18:51

How much cheese did you use? I think that's important.

Oh so true...

NerdWhoEatsMedlar · 08/04/2024 18:52

I always thought lasagnas were size restrained by the size of the lasagna dish.

I have a massive catering pan that will do lasagna for 15, I've never met a person who could accidently fill it.

Youdontevengohere · 08/04/2024 18:53

I have no idea of the dietary preferences of my neighbours, I feel like I should go
knocking and ask!

KezzaMucklowe · 08/04/2024 18:54

I'll have some. Pop it in the post and I'll pay for postage. I'll inbox you my address if you give me your bank details.

Kalevala · 08/04/2024 18:55

Take other things out of your freezer to cover meals for the next few days, remove any unnecessary packaging from items left, portion the lasagne into minimal packaging so it fits.

Great idea he'll inhale it and wash it down with 478 weetabix and a gallon of milk.

Shiningout · 08/04/2024 19:02

How the fuck do you know the diets of all your neighbours, and how are they all vegan anyway 😂😂 wtf

The best way to fit portions of stuff into a crammed freezer is to put them in ziplock sandwich bags.

There is zero indication in the OP that it's a joke
