To think snobbery around the Kardashians is a bit pathetic?

Notsuretoputit · 07/04/2024 13:37

Just doing a rewatch of the series and was discussing it with a colleague. Sure enough another colleague pipes up with ‘I’ve never heard of them, don’t know who they are’.

He does know who they are. Whenever they’re mentioned someone always pretends not to know who they are or pretends to never have heard of them. Clearly they think it makes them hugely intelligent and superior.

AIBU to think this is annoying and if you don’t want to discuss a subject don’t join in the conversation?

You do if you have clever people behind you making the right contacts.

What exactly do they do?

Yeah? What purpose do they serve?

Taylor has principles, is a feminist and is socially aware.

The Kardashians are none of this.

MarkandElizabethForever · 07/04/2024 13:59

I think it's simply because it makes them feel better about themselves to put them down. They must be quite insecure.

ButterflyKu · 07/04/2024 13:59

Notsuretoputit · 07/04/2024 13:46

I live for them ❤️

You live for them? And you’re a grown adult?

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 07/04/2024 13:59

Notsuretoputit · 07/04/2024 13:51

Bit rude though, isn’t it?

If two people were discussing their stamp collection I wouldn’t interrupt to explain I’d never heard of a stamp.

A stamp serves a purpose though ( well not with Royal Mail at the moment, but generally does)

Their ability to self promote is extraordinary. They have built up possibly billions on the back of limited talent. That takes some skill and dare I say it, some sort of smarts.
Truly thick as mince people can't do this. Not for the time frame this lot has.

Depressing, isn’t it. Of all the women out there to “live for” - the bloody Kardashians

Malarandras · 07/04/2024 14:00

So that guy at work was rude absolutely, he should not be interrupting conversations. But folk can dislike the Kardashians if they want to. As if the Kardashians care!

Notsuretoputit · 07/04/2024 14:01

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 07/04/2024 13:52

But hearing people talking about them seriously just makes listeners squirm. Like they are a serious subject😂

If you’re having a conversation about them why can’t someone join in with their point of view? I mean an exclusive Kardashian conversation is exciting as watching paint dry.

Fine, so then why join the conversation?

Don’t listen, don’t join in. But no, they break their necks to come and tell you they’ve never even heard of the Kardashians.

I agree it’s very strange. It’s one thing to be a fan of someone and take an interest but living for someone you don’t know? That’s a bit dramatic no…

I’m assuming they have a manager, some kind of PR network? Someone else is doing it for them.

HelloMiss · 07/04/2024 14:02

Why is it an issue if people join in and say they haven't heard of them? Just carry on with the conversation surely?

QueSyrahSyrah · 07/04/2024 14:02

I agree it's bizarre to pipe up and protest that you've never heard of someone who is undoubtedly at this stage a very well known part of popular culture.

I don't give two figs about football but when colleagues are chatting about it I don't jump in to let them know I've never heard of X player or Y team (and actually generally I have, if only by name, because I don't walk through the world with my eyes and ears closed).

ggggggooooo · 07/04/2024 14:02

@OutOfTheHouse
They have created all manner of businesses including television shows, clothes and makeup. One is a successful model. I don't know what else they have done as this is about as far as my knowledge in them goes but they've done stuff and built an empire. That's not something thick people achieve

Why start a conversation about them if you don't want have a conversation about them?

Think you’re confused.

But this is true of everyone. No one does it all themselves. Literally no one. Even the greatest brain on earth will have staff if they are successfully building a brand.

GanninHyem · 07/04/2024 13:55

You live for a bunch of self entitled, narcs who would literally push you into dog shit and walk on your back for the chance of a paparazzi photo or a few dollars. Pathetic.

Grow up.

The Kardashian's are master manipulators of young girls.
They make there money by selling their shit to impressionable young people by making them feel shit about themselves.
They are very clever at their craft and everything that's wrong with body image and worth in today's society

Wholeheartedly agree with this. They may have started a... cultural empire, one that has had such a negative effect on society, especially young girls and women, that means I cannot stomach them. They are awful. I feel for their children and hope they don't grow up thinking they need to change their beautiful, natural faces once a year to make money. The odds are stacked against them unfortunately.
I dont think any of them are happy, fulfilled people.
I like reading showbiz stuff though, loads of people have never heard of them or know the name but that's about it.

But not completely on their own. Perhaps they are very good at whatever they do, I don’t know, but I’m willing to bet that it wasn’t without some sort of support. That’s not to say they weren’t behind it all but they didn’t do it entirely independently.

I heard of the name and I know one is called Kim. I know there are lots of them and they have a link to OJ Simpson and have a sex tape but I wouldn’t recognise them. I don’t really watch any tv or spend time on celebrity sites/magazines.

I don’t think it’s snobbery; it’s just people like different things and often have little knowledge or interest in certain areas.

Their dad was OJ Simpsons lawyer. I know who they are but they aren't my cup of tea at all😉

Notsuretoputit · 07/04/2024 14:06

EffortlesslyInelegant · 07/04/2024 13:56

Ah I see. Sorry then. You should have made clear that only those in complete agreement at your fawning over a bunch of narcissistic grifters should post. Noted.
It is also entirely possible to be a successful scam artist whilst being thick as mince. QED.

You come on the thread to insult me, not to debate the question.

Tbey lack culture though. Thats why l hate them. Bet they’ve got art worth millions on the wall and don’t even know about who painted them.

Do they ever read a book? Discuss social issues? This is what l called them thick as mince. I k ow they’re successful, but they’re horrible role models.

I don’t really have any feelings on them, but fair play at least they’ve done well for themselves on their own merit …unlike the Royals
