Just doing a rewatch of the series and was discussing it with a colleague. Sure enough another colleague pipes up with ‘I’ve never heard of them, don’t know who they are’.

He does know who they are. Whenever they’re mentioned someone always pretends not to know who they are or pretends to never have heard of them. Clearly they think it makes them hugely intelligent and superior.

AIBU to think this is annoying and if you don’t want to discuss a subject don’t join in the conversation?

If two people were discussing their stamp collection I wouldn’t interrupt to explain I’d never heard of a stamp.

Then why do thy join conversations just to gleefully say they’ve never heard of them (when they have)? Just don’t join the conversation and interrupt people discussing something who are interested by telling them how uninterested they are.

To be fair OP it's not as if you have started a thread just to discuss them you asked the question of how likely is it that people haven't heard of them/know much of them and others have responded to concur with your work chap

I’ve heard of them of course. Never watched their show (can’t stand that kind of thing), so about all I know about them is they’re super rich and have lots of K names.

I’ve heard of her but I couldn’t tell you what any of her songs were. I’m not making it up or trying be better than those who do.

They are many things but thick they are not. They are incredibly savvy. You don't get where they have got without a lot of smarts

But hearing people talking about them seriously just makes listeners squirm. Like they are a serious subject😂

It’s just that people live life in their own world and maybe their life (like mine) doesn’t include reality tv and pop music. I have heard of the kardashians and taylor swift just from the odd headline on a newspaper but as that wouldn’t be a story I am interested in that is as far as my knowledge goes.

Kim had a sex tape and also dated Kayne West for a while. They had a child which was named North West.

Father did the OJ trail and there was a reality TV show.

That is everything I know. I have zero interest and only know the above as it was impossible to avoid.

I dont think they're thick. They know who they appeal to, they know they want to present/reveal/hold back. Their shows are well edited. If you're interested in people then they're no less interesting to other "normal" people. I'm not going to die defending them but they have a brand that they've marketed. I wouldnt call them thick! I've never watched the show but I know who all of them are and their offspring just from other media sources. Vacuous indeed. They are just wealthy grasping social climbers who've done a good job of it.

As for Taylor Swift, I too have never knowingly heard any of her songs. They may have been played in my hearing, but I wouldn't know they were by her.
But by your own admission you HAVE heard of them. It's when people think they sound clever or hi-brow by declaring they've never heard of them.

If people haven't heard of them then those people have limited their exposure to the world so much that I don't see them as being in any way admirable.

I don't love the whole Kardashian thing but I know who they are a could state a few facts about them. Ditto Taylor Swift. Because I try to keep my ears and eyes open to as much as I can with regards to as many topics as I can. Whilst I wouldn't devote any time researching them or watching their shows, anyone who hasn't even heard of them is just broadcasting their extraordinary ignorance.

At least Taylor Swift works hard and genuinely so for her money.
