What’s your ‘mum uniform’?

Bit of a lame expression but I’m looking to buy new clothes that are practical for school run, park etc but easy to throw on together (ie not buying in outfits) and not too slobby/hideous. Just interested to see what everyone else wears, at 32 I’m too old for teen fashion but not ready for Next/Boden yet 😂

Why do so many wear leggings with socks pulled up & a cold water swimming jacket thing?

😂😂😂 this was my uniform in the winter.

Proud dry robe wanker over here !

(I do actually swim and spend my weekends at the kids rugby so I think I'm allowed one!) 🙈

I probably wouldn't wear a skirt or dress for the school run or park. For school run - leggings are fine. For park/ coffee out I'd opt for jeans, jumper or sweatshirt and barbour or puffer.

I’m clearly not your target audience as I’ve worn Jext as a teen, in my 20s, 30s and 40s. Not sure what’s supposed to be old about it.

I've come to realise it's not an age thing but a generational thing. When we were in our 20s next was young. When I was a kid I thought the flowery knee-length dresses my grandma wore were what all old ladies wore and eventually my mum would start wearing them too. I have since realised that the flowery knee length dresses were what young women wore in the forties, when my grandma was a young woman, and people often will just keep their style from that age. I'm pretty sure the only reason my mum and dad don't wear flares anymore is lack of availability.

Fuelledbylatte · 05/04/2024 20:40

Comfies!

Jogging bottoms (tapered, various colours) trainers cropped tshirt body warmer

Leggings / gym wear if going to gym

Jeans and top if no coat required

Dresses when weather says I can (toast / nobody's child)

Gratuliere · 05/04/2024 20:42

Jeans with a classic belt and a Breton shirt.

Sagittarius · 05/04/2024 20:48

For the school run/park I'm normally in a pair of black nike pro leggings with a hoody . Main reason, they are comfortable and I work from home , they are also quick to wash and dry if they get dirty at the park. Lots of other mums wear similar to this I've noticed, nobody is particularly making an effort for the school run.

I'm mid 30s, I don't own anything from boden, fat face, joules etc, its not to my taste at all as I wear a lot of athleisure.

Otherwise I'll have a basic pair of jeans and casual tee or nice jumper depending on the time of the year. In summer I like to wear midi dresses with chunky sandals or white trainers.

  1. I have the magic butter leggings in many colours from amazon, and a twist front Jersey dress in 6 different colours, rocket dog pumps in 3 colours. I've gone full efficiency the last few months!

Could I have a link to the leggings please?

juniorspesh · 05/04/2024 20:55

Lots of boilersuits.
Black cashmere sweater and Adidas three stripe workout leggings.
Hoka trainers or Birkenstocks.

Avoiding long puffas and those bobble hats with a fur fabric bobble as mum-cliché.

I wfh and live opposite the school gates so consider anything up from pyjamas to be a win.

HeadsShouldersTitsandArse · 05/04/2024 20:56

Mom jeans, white vest, blue long sleeve lightweight shirt.

Mom jeans and various T-shirts/jumpers.

leggings, vest and a maxi cardigan.

pambeesleyhalpert · 05/04/2024 20:58

Gym leggings and oversized jumper. I've just had a baby so have been living in normal leggings which I don't like. when I get to my goal weight I'm treating myself to new sweaty bettys and lulus. Cliche but comfy so don't care

ThankFitsFriday · 05/04/2024 20:59

Adanola leggings and jumper with trainers - super comfy, quick to put on but also quite modern looking.

2ndMrsdeWinter · 05/04/2024 21:00

Oversized shirts, sweat shirts, knit jumpers and tank style tops on top.

Cargos, leggings and yoga pants on the bottom.

occasionally a comfy top and matching pants two piece in a jersey/saweatshirt or linen material.

always trainers or birks.

A trench or long puffa weather depending.

it’s all very simple and easy to throw on.

OnlyTheBravest · 05/04/2024 21:04

Oversized jumper, leggings, trainers

Eleesah · 05/04/2024 21:05

Yoga pants and a fleece top

lol I think it’s fashionable as women do this on my school run too! I don’t own the swimming jacket unfortunately!!

Thats me out then. I live in Next

Ineedanewsofa · 05/04/2024 21:16

I only do school runs on WFH days so usually adanola leggings, 327s and an oversize jumper/hoodie or riding leggings, yard boots and an overside hoodie 😂
If it’s cold I’ll add my padded ‘mum’ coat or my Equidry (dry robe for horse riders) depending on heading to the horses or not. Either way I’m practically and comfortably dressed for what I’m doing post pick up

tulipdoo · 05/04/2024 21:17

I love flared leggings at the moment with a slightly oversized hoodie or jumper.

I have sensory issues with jeans so try and avoid them.

CommeIlFaut · 05/04/2024 21:26

This time of year, for casual dress I’m often in dark blue jeans, loose cashmere sweater, green Onitsuka Tiger trainers, a Uniqlo foldaway coat and bright socks.

I’m not sure it’s super stylish but it is warm and presentable.

Orangeandgold · 05/04/2024 21:27

Long skirt - mainly because I never get the time to shave my legs. Dr Martens boots but also have Chelsea boots. An 80s style jumper if it’s cold or a tshirt if it’s cold.

Maxi dress if all else fail.

Previousreligion · 05/04/2024 21:48

I've also worn Next since my teens 😂

Go to in winter is dark jeans and a cashmere or Merino wool jumper, or a jumper dress and knee-high boots.

Go to in summer is a cotton dress, usually fit and flare, often Hobbs or Laura Ashley, with sandals or white trainers.

SecondHandFurniture · 05/04/2024 21:52

Wide leg jeans, platform Converse and a tucked in t shirt. At this time of year, with a leather jacket.

CommentNow · 05/04/2024 22:01

Lucy and yak elastic waistband bottoms and a tucked in vest.

Jeans and jumper.

Cute dress with leggings in winter and canvas shoes in summer.

Basically anything that gives me a waist.
