AIBU to buy the necklace?

A jewellery shop local to me closed down late last year. There was a gorgeous necklace in the window that I’d been looking at for ages, but I didn’t buy it. It was really unique looking and Ive never seen another like it. But at the time, I didn’t think I could justify spending that much on myself.
Since the shop has shut I’ve had major regret about not buying it. So much so that I started googling and looking around for another necklace similar, when lo and behold, I’ve found the exact necklace on eBay! I did some searching around on sold catalogs for auction houses and it looks like the shop sold off some of its stock since they were shutting down, and it’s ended up with another seller who has put it on eBay.
However, it’s £300. I’m currently on maternity leave, so things are tight at the moment.
I have savings I’ve been keeping for clothes and makeup, but I feel guilty spending that amount in one go. However, I know I’ll be so sad if someone else buys it! It’s the sort of item I’d keep forever (18k gold).
I feel like I’ve been give a second chance to buy it!

Would I be unreasonable to buy it?? Help!

It's a beautiful ring, you were right to treat yourself!

Findingausernameishard · 07/04/2024 11:25

Buy it. You won't regret it, and you can save on other things for a while

ShouldIbeLeftWithLess · 07/04/2024 12:15

Oh it's lovely OP! Enjoy it forever.

So glad you got it! I find the attitude of 'Oh, I never buy anything for myself/I'd never spend that much money on myself' from mums really sad. It comes up all the time on here, and I bet you never hear blokes saying it on their Outing Hobbies forum. As long as you're not spending the DCs' lunch money on bonbons, there's absolutely nothing wrong with buying nice things for yourself!

Charlize43 · 07/04/2024 13:15

Buy it! Money is for having fun with...

You can always sell it on Ebay when you get bored with it.

Thirstysue · 07/04/2024 14:00

What an absolutely beautiful ring! Great investment and won't date and am sure looks amazing on you. Good for you for treating yourself.

Google image search for it and see if similar things come up cheaper. I found a £300 opal ring that I loved, and found a very similar one on Etsy for £25

I work in a jewellery shop and am lucky enough to have lots of jewellery. £300 for an 18ct necklace is a good price. Buy it!! You’ll regret it if you don’t. Also you just carried a baby for 9 months so see it as a present to yourself for the hard work!!

It was a ring and op bought it for 260

It is beautiful! Enjoy!

Baba197 · 08/04/2024 17:31

But it as a “push” present to yourself 😂😂 sounds like you will regret it if don’t. Could you maybe ask the people who usually buy you bday/xmas gifts if they would be happy to give you some cash towards it? Then You can replace some of the cash in your fund after you’ve bought it? Know Xmas is ages away so I may sound crazy!

Can you sell something, or do something, to make the money back? Or at least reduce the expenditure? No reason not to buy yourself nice things - but if it torments you every time you look at it then that might spoil your gift to yourself.

ThisMamaNeedsSleep · 10/04/2024 15:54

It’s gorgeous and I’m delighted that you got it! You would have regretted it forever if you let it get away twice. Some others have probably already said it but consider it as the piece you bought for yourself when baby was born, let it be a momento of this time of your life. Guaranteed to bring you joy every time you look at it.
