To take the air fryer on holiday?

The idea just came to me this morning when I woke up. We’re going on a weekend break tomorrow. We will eat out most of the time, but I thought it could be useful for lunches/ snacks in particular. Maybe also for dinner when we arrive, as we probably won’t be bothered to go out anywhere after the drive.

It might help keep the cost down and make it a bit healthier.

I’m not sure if they’d have rules about this but I could always hide it in a cupboard or something. They don’t produce anY smoke or steam so I can’t see it being a problem with the fire alarm.

Has anyone else done this? Hmm

I take a small handheld hoover with me, my own cutlery (even to restaurant) crockery and all cleaning products.

Take the air fryer more people should do this.

@Custardslices

also why do you take your own cutlery to a restaurant??

RampantIvy · 05/04/2024 13:46

@Custardslices taking your own cutlery to a restaurant really isn't normal. The staff would think it very rude.

I don't take my own crockery on SC holidays, but I wash it and all cutlery and any pans before I use them. I would take a kitchen knife because it will be better and sharper than anything on holiday.

crumblingschools · 05/04/2024 13:55

@Custardslices please tell me you don’t hoover the restaurant table before you put your own cutlery down on it

GasPanic · 05/04/2024 13:59

I do struggle a bit with the concept of hauling all the stuff from your house on holiday.

I remember going camping once and seeing a family who had fenced off an area and set up a sofa, tv, barbeque and loads of other stuff.

I mean, just stay at home, it's a damn site easier and you'll save on petrol.

Good lord!

MinervaMcGonagallsCat · 05/04/2024 14:06

Can't believe people actually take cooking appliances on holiday

😳

seasaltbarbie · 05/04/2024 14:43

My mum takes her ice machine everywhere, even caravaning 🤣 my husband usually takes his perfect draught machine too

Mummasals · 05/04/2024 14:49

Nancy-Ninja thoroughly enjoyed her trip to Disneyland Paris last year and saved us so much hassle when cooking! Will be taking her to Weymouth next month for sure!

candyisdandybutliquorisquicker · 05/04/2024 14:54

It's incredibly provincial, OP. Reminds me oh our holidays when we kids (and not in a good way)

And to think I felt embarrassed that I took teabags to Paris once.

That was actually my first thought!

If you are a) self-catering and b) going away for at least a week, then fine. I'd never bother in a million years, personally, but I very rarely cook on holiday at all even when self-catering.

Would be weird and depressing to take one to a hotel. Bleak.

Do you know, "bleak" is absolutely the word. I found something strangely depressing about the original post and couldn't put my finger on why. That's it. The bleakness of it.

quizzys · 05/04/2024 14:58

I've heard it all now. But not surprised as the default on MN is starvation and how to fix it creatively.

I hope she does, that's hilarious

You take your own cutlery to restaurants? Do you have OCD?

PeapodBurgundy · 05/04/2024 15:56

I take a mini George Foreman grill to hotels on a regular basis ( not every time we go away, but often). DS has ARFID so if there's an occasion where we won't be able to eat out for whatever reason, or he won't eat what's on offer because it's different, I have the facilities to prepare some of his safe foods. It's been PAT tested, and we've never had issues with smoke/fire alarms.

WonderingWanda · 05/04/2024 16:01

I'm struggling to understand why you would book a hotel when you clearly want self catering. The beauty of hotels for me is that someone else will be doing the cooking.

RoxyMoosic · 04/04/2024 21:06

Ok folks, you’re probably right. I wasn’t thinking straight. It was one of those ideas that comes but then when you think about it a bit more, becomes rather ridiculous.

Money is not an issue, but I just find eating big greasy meals all day, every day a bit much. I thought a little air fried something might break up the monotony. I also don’t count sticking a few chips in an air fryer as ‘cooking’.

I obviously would hide it in a suitcase or something, not parade it through the reception area like a trophy!!

Where are you going that 'big greasy meals all day every day' are the only options?

UpsideLeft · 05/04/2024 16:02

I guess it depends what sort of holiday you go on

Can't say I've ever been on a holiday where I've ever needed to take any kitchen appliances

elastamum · 05/04/2024 16:13

We went skiing and took a pressure cooker with us, as it's great for cooking at altitude. We will definitely take the ninja next time we go.

Pluviophile1 · 05/04/2024 16:25

EveryoneJapan · 04/04/2024 08:53

I wouldn’t take it on holiday, I’d just give it two weeks off in the summer, then it can decide where it goes itself.

They'll be thread from the air fryer complaining about being forced to go on holiday, which isn't really a holiday for the air fryer, because it will still be expected to air fry, and it should be allowed a break for goodness sake.

Doggosandflowers · 05/04/2024 16:37

Take it if you’re staying in a cottage, but not if you’re staying in a hotel.

I once took my squash seedlings on holiday to a cottage in Cornwall so they weren’t left to the haphazard care of my young adults. The cottage owners thought I was a bit batty

Honeybee32 · 05/04/2024 17:15

I've done this before. And I've taken my slow cooker 🤣🤣

Zyq · 05/04/2024 17:48

Sounds bonkers to me. When we go on holiday and self-cater, I keep cooking down to an absolute minimum, but we manage fine by having things like fish and chips, pasties, salads, sandwiches, ploughman's, and stuff you can heat up in the oven or microwave. For a weekend break, surely you'll be fine without an air fryer?
