To take the air fryer on holiday?

The idea just came to me this morning when I woke up. We’re going on a weekend break tomorrow. We will eat out most of the time, but I thought it could be useful for lunches/ snacks in particular. Maybe also for dinner when we arrive, as we probably won’t be bothered to go out anywhere after the drive.

It might help keep the cost down and make it a bit healthier.

I’m not sure if they’d have rules about this but I could always hide it in a cupboard or something. They don’t produce anY smoke or steam so I can’t see it being a problem with the fire alarm.

Has anyone else done this? Hmm

We stick with the kettle in hotels.

Instant porridge pots and banana
Rice pots or noodles for snacks
Cup a soup and bread

SlightlygrumpyBettyswaitress · 05/04/2024 10:45

You are going for a weekend in a hotel and want to take an airfryer?
Nope just read that sentence.
When i used to go on family self catering trips I would happily pack onto the car stuff to make life easier. Family sized saucepans, microwave dishes and a large lasagne sized dish. Sharp knives.
But a weekend in a hotel? I think you are missing the point!

Daisyblue77 · 05/04/2024 11:03

Your not allowed in a hotel, for fire safety, and its only a weekend so sure you can manage without

northernbeee · 05/04/2024 11:20

no way to a hotel!! Have a break will you!

moogdroog · 05/04/2024 11:21

Not the air fryer, but I took my Instant Pot camping in France. Our friends came too and they brought their fancy bean-to-cup coffee machine.
Unless you're flying, do it!

EmmyA87 · 05/04/2024 11:25

I took my Ninja multi cooker to Wales on holiday. It meant I could various dishes as it was self catered. Saved us loads of money and we had a few home comfort meals whilst there. I’d definitely do it again.

Glitterblue · 05/04/2024 11:32

I wouldn’t to a hotel but would to self catering. We’ve taken the slow cooker and coffee machine before on self catering holidays but I definitely wouldn’t take anything like that to a hotel.

toni6994 · 05/04/2024 11:58

We went on a static caravan holiday last week and I intended to take my small air fryer, but I forgot it amongst all the other “essential” crap 😂

FishPie2 · 05/04/2024 12:15

I take my Instant Pot on every holiday, if going to Europe it has it's own space in my suitcase, wouldn't be without it on a self catering holiday.

crumblingschools · 05/04/2024 12:24

@moogdroog OP is staying in a hotel

LuckySantangelo35 · 05/04/2024 12:42

@RoxyMoosic

you are going on a weekend break. You said you will eat out most of the time.

so what exactly do you need it for?

what kind of “snacks” are you thinking of making with it? no one needs cooked snacks between meals. Too calorific. Just have fruit.

just have sandwiches or something the first night save you cooking. It’s supposed to be a holiday afterall!

honestly it’s a bit ridiculous to take air fryer in these circumstances

@EmmyA87

why did you need home comfort meals? Were you homesick?

LuckySantangelo35 · 05/04/2024 12:46

rainbowunicorn · 04/04/2024 22:13

Why would you be eating big greasy meals all day? Surely you just go to places that sell nice food. I really don't understand why you think eating out equals big greasy meals. The is even stranger than your idea of taking an air fryer.

@RoxyMoosic

this op? Why would you be eating big greasy meals? Do you know there are other eating establishments available besides greasy spoon cafes?

SoupDragon · 05/04/2024 13:04

Just have fruit.

The perfect savoury snack.

Greekfoodisthebest · 05/04/2024 13:09

Can't you just choose healthy meals from the places you go to eat? I would also think that there's healthier ways of bringing something for the 1st evening, eg, homemade couscous or pasta salad or something that will travel well.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 05/04/2024 13:11

I’ve taken a slow cooker to a SC holiday before. But I wouldn’t take cooking equipment to a hotel room. Probably not very safe.

Custardslices · 05/04/2024 13:15

I take a small handheld hoover with me, my own cutlery (even to restaurant) crockery and all cleaning products.

Take the air fryer more people should do this.

ScubaDivingSpiderMonkey · 05/04/2024 13:18

In the 17th century it was the Dutch and their tulipmania. In the 21st century it’s the Brits and their airfryers.

Funny old world.

Stressedoutmum27 · 05/04/2024 13:22

We've got a week's caravan holiday in May & im taking my trusty Ninja!! Cheap lunches & beige food quick as a flash! X

crumblingschools · 05/04/2024 13:23

@Custardslices that sounds quite extreme, don’t think that should be encouraged. Do you take that to hotels?

Boutonnière · 05/04/2024 13:27

We keep a cool bag in the car with plastic plates, cutlery and a sharp knife when we do short breaks in hotels in the UK in the summer. Useful for picnics out and about or for eating ready salads, sandwiches etc from the nearest supermarket, or nice deli if lucky, when we don’t want to eat a full meal at the hotel - might have had a leisurely lunch somewhere so don’t need a full dinner.

Loved self catering, because it was more convenient and more affordable when the children were young but now it’s just the two of us, I want someone else doing the housekeeping !

I must say that the thought ‘ I wish I had an oven ( speedy or otherwise) in this hotel room ‘ has never struck me. And wondering why the food available in or near the hotel is going to necessarily be ‘big and greasy ‘ ?

FloofyBird · 05/04/2024 13:28

We did last year. Just a small one.

@SoupDragon

why does she need a savoury snack made in the air fryer? She can do without for a weekend. Or if she really wants one, just buy one from a shop

Notlikelysaidthedragontothefly · 05/04/2024 13:39

EveryoneJapan · 04/04/2024 08:53

I wouldn’t take it on holiday, I’d just give it two weeks off in the summer, then it can decide where it goes itself.

😂

@Custardslices

why?? When I go on holiday I want a break from the norm and to relax. I don’t wanna be hoovering and cooking.
