To take the air fryer on holiday?

The idea just came to me this morning when I woke up. We’re going on a weekend break tomorrow. We will eat out most of the time, but I thought it could be useful for lunches/ snacks in particular. Maybe also for dinner when we arrive, as we probably won’t be bothered to go out anywhere after the drive.

It might help keep the cost down and make it a bit healthier.

I’m not sure if they’d have rules about this but I could always hide it in a cupboard or something. They don’t produce anY smoke or steam so I can’t see it being a problem with the fire alarm.

Has anyone else done this? Hmm

I also assumed self catering-

no I don't think you can take to a hotel room for 2 nights.

There are lots of ways you can economise on a break with kids-pastries/ bagels/snacks etc but no to cooking

Not appropriate for a hotel. The power circuits will not be set up for cooking devices plus not fair on others to have cooking smells. In addition hotels have restaurants

Plus I reckon their insurance dictates that all electricals used on the site are PAT tested.

🤣🤣🤣🤣 air fryer to a hotel!!!

HILARIOUS.

( I cannot believe there are people this obsessed with their air fryer!)

I really don’t understand the air fryer obsession.

Where are you going op? Surely one of the best parts of being on holiday is not having to cook?

What's not to love about a small, very cheap to run, produces delicious food in less time oven?

Plus, you know, cost of living.

Not everyone has the luxury of being able to blithely 'not have to cook' on holiday, or they may decide that a bit of food prep that helps make the break affordable is worthwhile if it means they can actually go away.

Also allergies or SENs might mean that eating out isn't worth it anyway.

Depends what facilities the accommodation has. We go to Bulgaria every August but our apartment doesn't have an oven (just a stove) so we bring ours

Caspianberg · 04/04/2024 10:18

No.

We have a holiday let. I would be annoyed if someone bought own potentially dodgy kitchen equipment like that. All of our stuff in the kitchen electronics wise have been checked and signed off as safe by the local fire brigade. People plugging in own air fryer would just be a safety hazard. Imagine if the air fryer caught in fire and people were injured or died, they would blame the hosts who didn’t even know it was there.

If your in a hotel then you chose a hotel, you have to eat cold or in restaurant. If you chose a cottage or apartment, book one will full kitchen equipment.

Auburngal · 04/04/2024 10:19

My mum takes her veg knife with her as in the past we stayed somewhere and the veg knife provided was useless. A quick Google there was a Boyes and a Wilko. We bought a knife from one of those.

FirstFallopians · 04/04/2024 10:22

I took ours when we went to Centreparcs earlier this year- very handy for the kids’ beige crap food.

But that was self catering. I wouldn’t fancy using one in a confined space that I then had to sleep in.

Roselilly36 · 04/04/2024 10:23

Not to a hotel, we have an Airfryer at our holiday cottage for guests to use, they are just so convenient.

TryingToEat · 04/04/2024 10:25

And to think I felt embarrassed that I took teabags to Paris once.

Tagyoureit · 04/04/2024 10:25

Hotel, no
Self catering, yes

Why? I always take teabags

Movinghouseatlast · 04/04/2024 10:30

There are new fire regulations that came into force last October for self catering holiday lets. A lot of owners now have it in their t and c's that you are not allowed to bring your own electronic appliances ( bit bonkers in my opinion. Where do you draw the line, hair straighteners?)

Anyway, do check that. My rules in my cottage say no candles/incense and no charging of electric bike batteries for example.

Personally I'd love it if you brought your own air fryer as I wouldn't have to clean the cooker!

Riverlee · 04/04/2024 10:31

Wouldn’t take it to a hotel, or for a weekend break.

Dh has been known to take his coffee machine to a caravan though (for weeks holiday).

BlondeFool · 04/04/2024 10:27

Why? I always take teabags

I felt like an uncultured Philistine who should be savouring black coffee in chic establishments, not being ‘British’ and sipping on my own Yorkshire tea ;-) I hate coffee though and never drink it!

BlondeFool · 04/04/2024 10:34

@TryingToEat I can't stand coffee (weirdly I love the smell). I take my teabags everywhere. In Prague though, I got addicted to Baileys hot chocolate.

Tel12 · 04/04/2024 10:36

Not in a hotel.

canyouletthedogoutplease · 04/04/2024 10:46

Yes, knock yourself out if you're self catering, camping, caravanning, take it all, I fully support anything that will make the endurance test of self catering holidays easier.

No, you should not knock up nuggets and chips in your hotel room.

So many questions, plates and cutlery, washing up liquid, pot towel or hand soap and bath towel? Fridge space, washing up, fire alarms... and I don't ever want to slip between sheets that smell like fish in breadcrumbs or drift off to sleep breathing in the aroma of curly fries, especially not on holiday.

Nip out and get a sandwich.

Rewis · 04/04/2024 10:47

For a weekend at a hotel? Nope. It's not that many meals at a weekend.

Notellinganyone · 04/04/2024 10:49

Me too!

40weeksmummy · 04/04/2024 10:50

Used to work in hotels. You wouldn't believe how many people were cooking their own food in 4 stars, covering fire alarm with shower cap!

whatsappdoc · 04/04/2024 10:54

You're staying in a hotel! Give yourself a break from cooking jeez. Get a meal deal from Tesco if you don't want to fork out a lot for lunch. As for when you arrive how irritating for others to watch you being a martyr over a 'healthy' meal when you could be exploring or in the bar.

Fluffyc1ouds · 04/04/2024 10:59

I really don't understand the air fryer obsession as it is (what's wrong with an oven?), but this is madness.

TryingToEat · 04/04/2024 10:25

And to think I felt embarrassed that I took teabags to Paris once.

Tea bags are very expensive abroad. Plus its usually the awful Liptons.
