To take the air fryer on holiday?

The idea just came to me this morning when I woke up. We’re going on a weekend break tomorrow. We will eat out most of the time, but I thought it could be useful for lunches/ snacks in particular. Maybe also for dinner when we arrive, as we probably won’t be bothered to go out anywhere after the drive.

It might help keep the cost down and make it a bit healthier.

I’m not sure if they’d have rules about this but I could always hide it in a cupboard or something. They don’t produce anY smoke or steam so I can’t see it being a problem with the fire alarm.

Has anyone else done this? Hmm

I do. I take any portable appliance that will make my life easier.

Ok folks, you’re probably right. I wasn’t thinking straight. It was one of those ideas that comes but then when you think about it a bit more, becomes rather ridiculous.

Money is not an issue, but I just find eating big greasy meals all day, every day a bit much. I thought a little air fried something might break up the monotony. I also don’t count sticking a few chips in an air fryer as ‘cooking’.

I obviously would hide it in a suitcase or something, not parade it through the reception area like a trophy!!

Why would you be eating big greasy meals all day? Surely you just go to places that sell nice food. I really don't understand why you think eating out equals big greasy meals. The is even stranger than your idea of taking an air fryer.

I don’t like greasy meals every day either. So would buy a chicken salad sandwich from Tesco maybe. Why would chips in an air fryer be the ‘healthy’ choice for someone who apparently doesn’t like greasy food? Chips are one of the top oily foods surely, however you cook them? Other food choices are available!

TryingToEat · 05/04/2024 05:56

TheChosenTwo · 04/04/2024 21:57

You don’t have to choose anything big or greasy.
And where would you get the chips from? And what would you serve them on? Aren’t chips also a bit greasy? Would you throw the rest of the bag away?

You really hadn’t thought that through at all had you?! 😂

We don’t have an AF but even if we did it wouldn’t be coming on a SC trip anywhere with us. We don’t take anything with us when we SC - no teabags, no cafetière, no washing machine…

Do you not drink any hot drinks? Surely SC don’t provide tea and coffee for you?

MaraScottie · 05/04/2024 06:00

Buy a banana and a sandwich in the supermarket. Problem solved.

TheChosenTwo · 05/04/2024 07:26

@TryingToEat no I don’t drink hot drinks, dh drinks tea and will have a coffee after dinner if we are out.
We just get what we need when we get there.

DottyLottieLou · 05/04/2024 08:02

Big greasy meals, 🙄

rookiemere · 05/04/2024 08:11

I don't really enjoy eating and paying for 3 meals out a day, particularly if we have had a hotel breakfast, so if we are in the UK we either get a supermarket meal deal, or preferably buy a freshly made salad from a sandwich shop and eat it in the park. This is somewhat dependent on good weather though.

Winnading · 05/04/2024 08:18

To a hotel, no. I thought you were meaning self catering. I have been known to take my slow cooker to cottages when theres 3 or more of us. And for a week or longer, not for a weekend.

@Bjorkdidit

yes, we’re staying in a hotel.

I certainly wouldn’t take one to a hotel. They won’t want cooking smells in guest rooms!

I had assumed that you meant a self-catering property.

RampantIvy · 05/04/2024 08:32

but I just find eating big greasy meals all day, every day a bit much

So, don't eat big, greasy meals then. I don't eat big, greasy meals as a rule anyway. They are very easy to avoid.

StopStartStop · 05/04/2024 08:36

To take the air fryer on holiday?
Does it need a break?
Don't you have anyone else to go with?
Can it pay its way?

YouAndMeAndThem · 05/04/2024 09:04

You can get soup and a roll in most restaurants, cafes etc so no need to eat 'big greasy meals' all weekend.

I need to know what kind of lunches or snacks need cooked in an air fryer to avoid this? Most things I cooked in an air fryer when I had one were beige foods. When it fused, I never bothered to replace it.

Bjorkdidit · 05/04/2024 09:21

One option for hot, non air fried, in hotel room snacks would be cup a soups (with bread, cheese or crackers) if cold food is unpalatable.

shuffleofftobuffalo · 05/04/2024 09:25

I take all sorts on holiday with me, people think I'm mad with my washing line for instance.

If I was driving and there is room in the car I'd take it for sure. If I could fit it in my suitcase I'd be taking mine with me on my summer hold!

Air fryer cooking in a hotel room? What about plates and prepping things? Just get a chippy if you’re watching the cash or go to a supermarket cafe.

In a hotel, though? That's where the OP is thinking of taking one!

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 05/04/2024 10:10

I would imagine that an air fryer in a hotel room could easily set off any smoke alarm, OP, so then you’d really be in the doo-doo.

GasPanic · 05/04/2024 10:14

Provided you rotate and take the dishwasher next year so no appliance is left out I don't see the problem with it.

Noyesnoyes · 05/04/2024 10:18

EveryoneJapan · 04/04/2024 08:53

I wouldn’t take it on holiday, I’d just give it two weeks off in the summer, then it can decide where it goes itself.

ranchdressing · 05/04/2024 10:32

Yes in a holiday home with kitchen, definitely not in a hotel. You can find light/healthy things to eat out easily these days.

Wexone · 05/04/2024 10:34

Sweet lord - surely the idea of going away to stay in a nice hotel is the fact you have the choice of food and luxury of not cooking, plenty of healthy foods avaliable chose them instead

Isobel201 · 05/04/2024 10:36

For 2 nights its just easier to buy sandwiches or you can make them in advance? You don't need an air fryer for that.
