SIL didn’t get DD an egg bc she’s “too old”

SIL has bought my younger DD, 13, an easter egg but not my older DD, 18, because she’s now an adult. I was absolutely furious when I found out! What an absolute cheek! You don’t buy one without the other. I haven’t given younger DD her egg yet as I don’t want my older one to feel left out. I’m going to go to the shops in a bit and get one for older DD and pretend it’s from SIL!

Would you find this inconsiderate? I would never have the nerve to be this spiteful!

I don’t buy any presents for nieces/nephews/ cousins/ in-laws at any time for any reason. Don’t expect any either. Makes life so much better :)

You are being over the top ridiculous and no I am not doing a handhold

Smart choice. It stops people from feeling entitled.

MotherofChaosandDestruction · 01/04/2024 21:05

I've never bought eggs for my niece and nephew. I only buy my kids and don't expect anyone else to either, they do but I don't expect it.

I still get my niece and nephew Christmas presents but my sibling said I don't have to now they are adults but I want to.

Figgygal · 01/04/2024 21:05

If you're that bothered buy one yourself

Do people not think it should stop once younger DD reaches 18 though?

So older DD gets Easter eggs for 5 years longer then younger DD? Downright favouritism!

If there are two kids, and I’m buying an egg for one; I’d go ahead and buy for the other as well. Buy for both or neither.

Except there’s not 2 kids…there’s 1 ….plus an adult…..if you buy till the youngest one is 18 …then the older one will have had 5 years more eggs…..so unfair to the youngest one….far fairer to have the same cut off age across all the wider family….I mean there could be an age difference of 10 years or more so you would in that case be buying eggs till the older one was around 30….which is ridiculous 🙄

katepilar · 01/04/2024 21:10

I dont think this has been handled very well. The Aunty should have somehow made it known upfront, to both you and your older DD. Also she shouldnt have left it on you to tell your DD. (Also she could have got your adult DD something smaller so she still get something but cheaper.)

Topsyturvy78 · 01/04/2024 21:12

If she's working earning her own money she would assume she can buy her own if she wants one. Have you forgotten we're going through a cost of living crisis?

Itloggedmeoutagain · 01/04/2024 21:13

Also she shouldnt have left it on you to tell your DD

It's an Easter Egg!

No! Because that would mean younger one got eggs for less years than the older one. 🙄

It’s just an Easter egg. If my aunt had phoned me at 18 to explain why I wasn’t getting a chocolate egg, I’d have thought she had lost the plot.
Also, what could she get that’s cheaper than an Easter egg? A Freddo?

We never got EE off our aunt and uncle. I had DD at 20 so they stopped buying me Christmas gifts and just bought for her. Which is fair enough.

BlueBlahBlah · 01/04/2024 21:19

Fake post, surely?

ZoeCM · 01/04/2024 21:19

OP, you are well and truly overreacting! It's an Easter egg. It wouldn't have entered my head to expect an Easter egg from an aunt or uncle when I was eighteen.

PennyPickles60 · 01/04/2024 21:19

Don’t be daft. Nobody buys Easter eggs for adults, except their parents/partners.

Dunnoburt · 01/04/2024 21:19

She's 18........

FreshHellscape · 01/04/2024 21:20

Is this an April Fool?

Do you really think your SIL should be buying Easter Eggs for your daughter when she is 22 so she doesn't feel left out when the then 17yo gets one?

What if your DD2 then feels left out when the egg supply is cut off st 18 as her sister got them into her 20s?

There has to be a cut off somewhere. Here it is, 18. If your 18yo can't cope with not getting sweeties then support her to mature.

Do you not think that is unfair on the younger dd?

ChorizoDog · 01/04/2024 21:24

If she got them both eggs until younger DD was 18, then younger DD might feel that she is missing out as older DD got an egg until she was 23.

18 is the normal age for things like this to change. Your 18 year old is an adult now, I’m sure she'd understand if you gave her the chance to.

A chocolate Malteser bunny? One of those tiny gold Lindt bunnies? Don't know about anyone else but I would be thrilled with one of those

But why should your older DD get 5 eggs more than her sister? That's definitely unfair.

Would you not be absolutely furious about her spite to younger DD then though? Because older DD would get 5 years more eggs than younger DD and that's NOT FAIR!!!
