to ask how to get such luminous skin?

I was in a supermarket a while ago and I saw a young woman with the most glowing/luminous skin I have ever seen. She was not wearing any make up. It did not look like she was wearing any 'product' on it either if that makes sense. Her skin almost glittered. I have honestly never seen skin like it.

Has anyone else seen anything like that? How could I get such glowing skin? (without makeup because it just would not look natural). TIA

My favourite sunscreens

Cheap - altruist face fluid

Mid - beauty pie with primer. Beauty of Joesson (buy from Yes style)

Higher end - Dr Sam, Ultraviolet

I wear all of these on rotation, depending how I am feeling

I use suncream on a daily basis but it always feels really thick and icky on my skin. Why could it feel that way?

No idea. It shouldn't. Modern formulations are really light and easy to wear. La Roche posay is good, as is the new loreal dark spot one.

OkayKinkade · 01/04/2024 20:18

Oh and I'm using the new 0.2% retinal from The Ordinary. It's good stuff. Just as strong and effective as the tret from Dermatica I'd say. Bit cheaper too at £15 for the same size tube.

MrSlant · 01/04/2024 21:56

Try Korean skincare for good lightweight sunscreen. I find this one really good as it doesn't annoy my sensitive eyes and you don't notice it on the skin at all once it's sunk in.

I use the Thank You Farmer SPF which is another Korean brand and honestly half the time feel I can skip makeup afterwards because it does result in a bit of a glow!

Maybe she had botox or filler I think that tends ro give a shiny look

Her skin didn’t look shiny.

No it doesn't. It smooths lines, it doesn't make you radioactive.

My niece (early 30's) has the most perfect, beautiful skin. She doesn't drink much alcohol, has a varied diet, doesn't do much exercise, has a very stressful job and 2 toddlers, so she is permanently knackered and probably always sleep deprived. Yet she looks amazing.
I asked her what skincare she was using recently as I have never seen her skin looking so good, and her routine is as follows:-

  • Elemis pro collagen cleansing balm
  • Moisuriser - Hada Labo wrinkle reducing anti ageing cream
  • Supergloop glow screen spf 30 on top of the moisuriser - you can use this under foundation but she usually wears it without foundation.
I since tried out the Supergloop myself as I am very fatigued at the moment and my skin was looking particularly grey, and I did feel it made a difference and my skin looked fresher. It gives a very subtle tint and a bit of a glow to the skin. Would recommend.

Can anyone recommend a pearly sun screen??

I have a bigger version of this one and it does sting my eyes so I rotate between this one and La Roche Posey Antihelios 50 spf fluid. The latter is my HG since it is sweatproof.

Thin fluid, no caste and gives my skin a lovely glow.

Could it be because the one I wear is factor 50? Is that stickier than a low spf?

Not necessarily. I wear Factor 50 daily and mine aren't sticky at all. I rotate between La Roche Posay Anthelios (which I find is completely sweatproof, so great if you're out in the sun/at the beach all day or sweating through exercise etc.) and Biore UV Aqua Rich Watery Essence (but only the Japanese formulation, not the recently released UK/European version which doesn't have the same formulation).

I've heard good things about the Beauty of Joseon one as well, so that's on my list to try next.

Most Korean/Japanese SPFs are cosmetically very elegant and therefore quite lightweight. They aren't always sweatproof though, so very much depends on activity!

As for glow, I find a good vitamin c serum (in combo with SPF) really does wonders for my skin.

Papyrophile · 02/04/2024 14:30

Sensai Glowing Base is pretty wonderful, but not cheap. But a little goes a long way and it includes a mild SPF which isn't technically enough but I have olive skin and tan at the first sign of sun. I am 67, and generally thought to be a bit younger, even by quite close friends. Bronzing Gel, also Sensai, is brilliant for a very sheer tint of colour that evens out skin tone.

I mostly use Japanese and Korean skincare products. Good diet, fresh air and regular exercise, sleep and plenty of fluids.

Shoes232 · 02/04/2024 14:38

Epionce and environ skin care are amazing.

Good spf and regular facials with peels

Nope. I wear 50 and it's fine.

I just treated myself to Sunday Riley CEO Oil and my god, my skin feels exactly the same as my toddlers. It sinks straight in.

5128gap · 04/04/2024 14:47

Try using a tiny amount of coconut oil under your moisturiser.

It could have been the phenomenon known a “halo”, attributed to holy or very spiritual people. Think how Jesus is portrayed in paintings with the glowing ring on top of his head… that is is the artist’s shorthand for this attribute.

All of the world’s most major religions refer to it. It makes for interesting reading, if you’re interested.

It’s less about skin and more about radiating an inner spiritual light.
This person may have been in a different state of consciousness, not visible to the naked eye… literally perhaps even different brainwave patterns (this has been studies in monks in monasteries).

She may have been in a state in which she was radiating so much deep, peace, love, gratitude, and good intentions… that your subconscious read this as a literally “beaming”… but as you said, this does not make the skin shiny nor glittery, but there is an unmistakable glow and brightness.
It’s the same in very dark skinned people, too.

If you want that kind of glow… then engage in the perfection of your character… you will begin to glow, too. Fasting helps, too. Basically, what would Jesus do? Good place to begin. Love thy neighbour, be charitable, forgive the people, etc etc…

Incidentally, it may not necessarily be the case that this person is involved in a formal religion, they may not even be aware they have this effect or appear this way, but they may have the most extraordinarily soft and loving heart.

I wish you all the glowiness in the world.
I feel a bit envious you got to see someone like that!

I suspect this has been said before by other posters, though perhaps not so bluntly. Just leave your skin alone! Wash it in cool water and apply a little moisturiser - eg vaseline or olive oil or something posh if you like the packaging - if it feels tight or dry. Sunscreen if you are sunbathing, though generally that's not a good idea.

The skin is a fabulous organ - one of the largest in our bodies. Left alone, it looks after itself. I'm now old but when young at least one boyfriend admired my "translucent" complexion. Nothing I had done - so yes genes (Highland Scottish) probably played a part - but no messing around with any additives.

On a London underground train, I once sat opposite a young Black woman with the most beautiful, beautiful skin. Like satin. So far as I could see, she was not wearing any make-up or obvious product at all. It would obviously have been incredibly rude to ask, so I don't know.

The moral of all this is that I fear genetics - not expensive skincare - is what really matters. (I've inherited other genes that are not so helpful, so it's swings and roundabouts...) Just be gentle with your skin. Some skin types 'glow', others naturally do not. (Mine never did.) Just take care of it and don't stress it too much. And for heavens sake, do what's best for YOU, not what manufacturers/advertisers/influencers say. They're only there to take your money.

Lollypop701 · 06/04/2024 17:36

Asked dd she says elf halo liquid filter is what everyone uses… if you pick the right colour it doesn’t look like you have anything on your skin. I’m off to boots!
