to ask how to get such luminous skin?

I was in a supermarket a while ago and I saw a young woman with the most glowing/luminous skin I have ever seen. She was not wearing any make up. It did not look like she was wearing any 'product' on it either if that makes sense. Her skin almost glittered. I have honestly never seen skin like it.

Has anyone else seen anything like that? How could I get such glowing skin? (without makeup because it just would not look natural). TIA

Was the woman you saw wearing any other makeup? The woman I saw was wearing no makeup at all.

What made her so astonishing was that she looked like she wasn't wearing makeup. I think she was, though - just the 'glow' and a subtle blush, maybe a lip tint.

I didn't pin her down and fetch a microscope 😂 Once I'd found my bottled magic, people did keep saying how healthy I looked!

This is mine with using tretinoin. I've always been self conscious of my skin but I think it's quite glowy now
Although I'm 40 so not young Grin

I was complimented today for My skin and I'm pretty sure it was this foundation. It's really amazing. I do also use good skincare but I've never been complimented as often as when I wear this.

Luck for sure. Some people just win the genetics/hormone lottery.
Then add in:
Diet
Water
Spf
No sun/smoking/alcohol/sugar
Lasers
Retinol/Retinal/Tret
Hydroquinone

Being very young and eating lots of veg must help!

I do think there's no substitute for good genes, but we can all make the best of what we've got. Some facials are absolutely amazing but you might need to experiment a bit to find the one that most works for you (why do salons offer so many? Why do I have to choose between hydration, nourishment, wrinkle smoothing and glow - why can't I have them all??).

I think genes must play a massive part! I’m complemented often on my “lovely skin”. I go to bed in my make up every night(lazy, I know) and wash my face with soap in the shower. My diet is shocking and I don’t drink much water. My mum has amazing skin and so did my late dad.

This is good skin for sure, no question but there's your skin and then there's 'glass' skin and not many people have it.

A really good illuminating primer can make you look like you're wearing no make up but have a natural glow. I like the Estee lauder one or Charlotte Tilbury. I often get compliments on my skin when wearing one of these with no foundation but you can also use them as a base for your make up if you want and they give you a nice dewy look.

DrJoanAllenby · 30/03/2024 20:04

This is fantastic stuff and better than Charlotte Tilburys flawless filter which looked weird on my skin.

I've been taking Solgar hyaluronic and collagen supplements for a couple of months and that helps my skin look good.

And before that I had been taking a different brand of the same product and had the same results.

I think it's a lot to do with putting good stuff in, fresh fruit and veg plus lots of water.

And genetics.

Wotsdestory · 30/03/2024 20:37

My daughter suffers from perioral dermatitis so can't wear any makeup or use a lot of cleansers/ moisturisers etc. Lately however her skin is glowing, when I asked she told me that it's Charlotte Tilbury flawless filter. Her skin can tolerate it fine.

She bought me a bottle of the CT FF and I do use it, but I don't seem to get the same beautiful glow, more like a subtle shine. We do however have very different skin types. She has pale skin with a strawberries and cream complexion, I have oily sallow skin.

So I guess in her case it's a combination of good skin with minimal interference (cleanser and moisturiser are Cerave) and "no-makeup" makeup.

People always comment on my skin and ask my ‘secrets’ so guess it must look good

I drink at least 4 litres water each day
Very few HPF and lots of good quality protein
Sweat most days through workouts
Get blood pumping with brisk walks
8 hours average sleep
Lots of face oils (due to dry tendency skin)

bakewellbride · 30/03/2024 20:45

I get compliments on my skin but I eat a very healthy vegan diet and have been teetotal for over 7 years and most people don't want to do those things!

That is a good point. Does anyone have any recommendations for not so expensive primers?

I will take a look but her skin was not shiny/glass like.

What skin tone did she have? I think people who are pale have a harder time looking like they have perfect skin as everything shows up on it - redness, veins, etc

edited to add I have pale skin and it’s suddenly gone awful awful so any actual good tips I’m desperate for too!

bubblesforbreakfast · 30/03/2024 21:01

Day to day skin care - la mer. Yes it's pricy but not more than Botox or micro needling etc.
For a dewy look, no 7 lift and luminate. Goes on like a normal moisturiser but has a bit of a shimmer to it

She had pale skin with a pink undertone. I could see slight blemishes on her skin as most people have when they are not wearing makeup.

I've got many flaws, but my skin isn't one of them. It's totally clear, glowing and fairly line-free considering my age.
I:

  • have inherited good genes
  • drink a lot of water
  • eat a diet very low in UPFs, with lots of veg and salad
  • eat tonnes of good fats every day - olive oil, avocados, raw cashews
  • sleep with the windows open, even in minus degrees
  • get fresh air and exercise every day

I only use a Simple cleanser and Nivea Soft moisturiser and only ever have. I'm all about the lifestyle and not the products.

JustAnotherDayWorkingAtHome · 30/03/2024 21:15

Could she have been pregnant. My skin was radiant in my first pregnancy.

FraSz · 30/03/2024 21:16

I bought the boots future renew serum, as well as the day and night creams and before that I really didn’t do any proper skin care routine. I noticed a big difference even just starting these with how I don’t have the dry patches anymore and so look more ‘shiny’. I’m going to add vitamin C and retinol next. Drinking water is probably one of the biggest factors too

Sleeping with the windows open sounds so much healthier than breathing in the same air all night… What about spiders though?! 😩

Tretinoin and amazing genetics. I've always had skin like this.

Skin boosters, a years worth of moisturiser in 1 session.

I'll be completely honest, I've tried loads of primers from high-end brands to cheap stuff and you definitely get what you pay for. IMO the best value illuminating primer I've tried is this one https://www.danielsandler.com/products/blossom-colour-beauty-glow-primer
Not exactly cheap, but a little goes a long way and the bottle is a really decent size so it lasts months. You can use it as a highlighter but I use it instead of foundation for a no-make up look.

Cheap primers tend to make my skin look greasy rather than glowing.
