to ask how to get such luminous skin?

luminescentskin · 30/03/2024 18:17

I was in a supermarket a while ago and I saw a young woman with the most glowing/luminous skin I have ever seen. She was not wearing any make up. It did not look like she was wearing any 'product' on it either if that makes sense. Her skin almost glittered. I have honestly never seen skin like it.

Has anyone else seen anything like that? How could I get such glowing skin? (without makeup because it just would not look natural). TIA

I always get comments on my skin and look younger than I am (am 40). Like a lot on here, I use tret at night, vit c in morning. Drink loads of water. Double cleanse every night with a balm (morniga) and then a foamy cleanser (fulvic acid). I have a tendency to have dry skin, so also sometimes put polyglutamic acid serum on under my moisturiser. My moisturiser is one of those that you can also use as a primer so it seems to help make my skin all glowy without any makeup.

When I do wear makeup, it's just tinted moisturiser - nothing heavy. Oh, and SPF too of course!

From the replies it seems the secret is having the……..confidence shall we say to actually describe your own skin as glowing……

Tretinoin? I’m 41 and my skin is way more glowey than it was at 20. Here is me with no make up. It’s a fucking wonder product

Please can I ask what product you use? Your skin is lovely

This is a bit uncalled for. People are just sharing the things that have helped them feel good about themselves because it might help others feel good too. Nothing more.

What an odd thing to say. It seems snide, was that your intention?

OP don't worry, people who are insecure and emotionally immature often see the confidence of others as a character flaw, and can only feel good about themselves by trying to put others down. Hopefully no one on here will let it bother them!

That poster's photo showed such nice skin!
I get my tret and vit c from dermatica - they send it out once a month. Someone might come along with a referral code to get you some ££ off. There are probably other products/companies you can use, but dermatica send prescription strength stuff and you send them pics of your skin and a dermatologist changes the dose or whatever if it's too strong or not strong enough.

In my early 40’s I quite like my skin some days, this is it on waking this morning. I use tret, moisturisers I use whatever’s on off in boots or Sainsbury’s, lots of water and factor 50 everyday. Would love to know what a difference 8 hours a night sleep would make but as a parent of a disabled child it’s unheard of!

I am frequently told I have glowing skin. It’s partly genetics but it’s also a lot better since I’ve paid attention to it. The two key things are to keep it clean and keep it hydrated.

I use a vit c polishing scrub every day in the shower. When I get out, I use hyironic acid serum and factor 50 moisturiser (replaced with factor 50 sunscreen in summer). I use bamboo pads and water to clean my skin every evening. Once or twice a week, I use a charcoal face mask.

kkloo · 31/03/2024 08:48

I have really good skin, I rarely drink alcohol but bizarrely my skin always looks the best after a night of drinking. 😂

Fofftwenty21 · 31/03/2024 09:47

I've never heard of tret - been using Hyaluronic Acid and vit c, need to up my game! So as not to hijack this thread can someone point me in the right direction to read up about tretinoin which explains what it does please. Thanks 😊

user1471538283 · 31/03/2024 09:50

Alot of it is youth. Young women have such plump skin. I envy young women's plump skin and their energy.

I've always had good skin but for it to glow I now need products because of my age and it can look fatigued.

Lol, I don’t care, my skin is great now, it’s always been shit with hormonal acne, I started using Tretinoin a year ago and now I love it, I don’t need to use foundation, and if that makes me big headed so be it. I hate my thighs, does that make it better?

Seasidesavvy · 31/03/2024 13:54

@Iamuhtredsonofuhtred thanks, I was laying down so probably ironed out a few creases! But I think tret has been a game changer after a lifetime of acne

AtomHeartMotherOfGod · 31/03/2024 13:57

Next time you see someone looking like this, try to muster the courage to compliment her and then ask politely if she would mind telling you what her skincare routine is 😁

I bet most people would feel honoured and happy to share.

There are gazillion products she might be using; I like many of the Tropic serums and find the sundrops one makes my skin a nice, warm colour, but Glow Berry and Elixir also have a lovely effect.

I was worried it would come across as a bit odd to ask a stranger what their skin care routine was. After reading the responses, I think she may well have been wearing something on her skin.

It is 0.5%. I use it every 2-3 days before I go to bed. I put night cream on after the retinol.

0.5 is entry grade retinol (if it's retinol and not granactive) Remember retinol is a long game product. I used 3 different strengths, then went up to Tret, then back down to retinAl which I'm really happy with.

I'm 58. Do I look 35 because of the three years on vitamin A? Nope. But my skin looks great FOR my age.

Vitamin C is more likely to give glow tbh, if it's at a good %.

Maybe the woman had some of those glow drops mixed in with her base.

I have wondered if more weight on face means less wrinkles, but this girl was slim. She was young (around 22/23) so I suppose that contributed to her having no wrinkles. She was buying a lot of vegetables so that might help with her glowing skin.

My Dd is a bit over this age its carefully placed highlighter and youth obviously.

Bloody hell, early 40s? If your face is that smooth and firm while looking after a disabled DC, you must have inherited magical genes! Lucky you.

Are you suggesting that you can have objectively 'bad' skin and will it to be better through the power of confidence?!

I guess we women should remember that we're all supposed to be timid, unconfident little shrews. Damn anyone who has posted on this thread for having the temerity to consider a part of themselves anything but awful!

happytobemrsg · 31/03/2024 19:24

When should you start using tret - what age? How do you start?

Hotgirlwinter · 31/03/2024 19:35

Hydrotherapy facials / million dollar facials etc - they leave the skin absolutely gorgeous.
A plumping toner and serum and decent moisturiser.

Also being 22! And perhaps a skin tint, which to the untrained eye is going to look completely natural but it’s supposed to. Many products are “your skin but better”

Hydration is key, in all your products you want them to be hydrating - with the exception of tret or retinol which is an exfoliant and that’s going to work on resurfacing, so everything else is going to be feeding moisture in whilst retinol does the work overnight to get rid of the old skin.

Cherry8809 · 31/03/2024 19:45

Came here to also vouch for Tretinoin.

There’s literally no other product or routine that’s made such a difference to my skin.

I get mine through Skin & Me; they start you on a lower dose, then increase it most months.

It’s a bit of a slow burner at first, and you will likely get some dryness/flaky skin or peeling, but stick with it! It increases the speed of skin cell renewal, and won’t last long.

You can minimise the effects by using a good moisturiser or facial oil (I love Embryolisse or rose hip oil).

I also love double cleansing (using an oil based cleansing balm to remove my makeup, then rinsed off with a mild foaming face wash), and using a black sugar scrub once a week.

Didzi · 31/03/2024 20:50

Hello, reading with interest! I too use tret, from Skin+Me. It works.
You can also get a tret sub from Dermatica (which I also tried) - but I somehow prefer skin+me since the vials dispense just the right amount of product for a single evening dose.
if anyone would like a code here’s a link from me. Hope it works for you too!
