to ask how to get such luminous skin?

I was in a supermarket a while ago and I saw a young woman with the most glowing/luminous skin I have ever seen. She was not wearing any make up. It did not look like she was wearing any 'product' on it either if that makes sense. Her skin almost glittered. I have honestly never seen skin like it.

Has anyone else seen anything like that? How could I get such glowing skin? (without makeup because it just would not look natural). TIA

She most likely had some Product on her skin. I use retinol overnight and a vitamin c cream when I don’t use retinol. Facial oils can give you a glow too.

JMSA · 30/03/2024 18:19

Probably good genes!

I guess she could have been wearing highlighter though.

curlywillow · 30/03/2024 18:19

have a look at some of the korean skin products. Some leave the skin very glass like

Abitlosttoday · 30/03/2024 18:45

People compliment my skin relatively often. This is what I think makes my skin good in order of (not very scientific) importance:

Genetics (both parents have good youthful skin)
Good diet (lots of veg and fruit)
Exercise (running outside and weight training a few times a week)
Shedloads of water (I wee a lot)
Sleep

Spf
Retinol (this has really taken things to the next level over a period of two years)
Vitamin C
Moisturiser
Careful cleansing

My skin is noticeably worse when I gorge on chocolate all week or have a few nights of alcohol. Sad but true. I still do it though.

I've noticed that a lot of plus size women have absolutely luminous skin. Not saying slim women never have, of course, I've just noticed that a lot of bigger women have that blessing. I wonder if it's because they're less likely to have lines or wrinkles?

I don't think there's any substitute for good genes, but my skin is always at its best when I'm well hydrated, sleeping well, getting plenty of exercise, keeping up my skincare routine and, er, having lots of orgasms. Sorry but you did ask, and wow, that last one sure makes a huge difference for me.

Skinvive. Injects hyaluronic acid and makes the skin very glowy

Vitamin C, Niacinamide, Hyaluronic acid moisturiser, Snail Mucin, Retinol/Retinal at night a few times a week. It’s all about moisture and the skin barrier. Lots of very good Korean products available

SkyBloo · 30/03/2024 18:58

My skin is pretty good. I think down to:

  1. genetics/luck
  2. been pretty careful about sun exposure - lots of time outdoors but avoid sun at peak
  3. drink lots of water, eat fruit & veg
  4. i get enough healthy fats and oils, don't subscribe to "low fat" anything
  5. use very few products. Soap and water, occasionally an inexpensive basic moisturiser.
  6. wear very little makeup
  7. I'm not the thinnest of the thin. Currently a size 14 and notice that when i drop to a 10, my body looks better (in all honesty) at the expense of my face.

I have wondered if more weight on face means less wrinkles, but this girl was slim. She was young (around 22/23) so I suppose that contributed to her having no wrinkles. She was buying a lot of vegetables so that might help with her glowing skin.

I always get compliments after a run (also the gym but not as much).

I have some vitamin c moisturiser. I find that retinol serum that I use before bed makes my skin look bad and dry. I could be using it wrong though.

Being very young and eating lots of veg must help!

I do think there's no substitute for good genes, but we can all make the best of what we've got. Some facials are absolutely amazing but you might need to experiment a bit to find the one that most works for you (why do salons offer so many? Why do I have to choose between hydration, nourishment, wrinkle smoothing and glow - why can't I have them all??).

meganorks · 30/03/2024 19:02

I think she did have a product on, just more likely a serum or maybe a bb/cc cream. But if she actually glistened then there is something on there

Don't overdo it. Once a week is enough, maybe even less, and use sparingly. It takes time to get used to it, but despite its popularity, it doesn't work with everyone.

How often are you using it, and how strong is it? Stronger isn’t necessarily best for your skin. It’s quite harsh on some skins so you need to build it up from once a week on a low dose over a month or so, to twice a week and then if your skin is tolerating it well then you can up your dose. Some beauty experts advise to sandwich it between two lots of moisturiser. medik8 is one of the best brands and has quite a lot of different levels of strength ( although they are quite expensive to buy but you really do only need a little amount so it lasts for ages)

A serum sounds likely. Her skin was not shiny. It was like normal matte skin but it really glowed.

It is 0.5%. I use it every 2-3 days before I go to bed. I put night cream on after the retinol.

She’s 22! There’s the secret. Young people have lovely glowing skin and look good.

Garlicking · 30/03/2024 19:10

The "almost glittered" says she was wearing some product. I once - once! - saw a young woman like this, then promptly spent a fortune on glowy products. Eventually found what I wanted, a pearlescent liquid with a slight gold shimmer. It's been discontinued, but Benefit High Beam is very similar. I mix a little into sheer foundation, or foundation mixed with moisturiser.

Was the woman you saw wearing any other makeup? The woman I saw was wearing no makeup at all.
