To want every woman in England to vote Tory at the GE

Hurrydash · 29/03/2024 18:00

Wow. I started a thread with 1000 posts on a topic in 12 hours and Mumsnet got ‘full’

One more off the bucket list!

So MN told me to start a new thread if I wanted to post anything else. I didn’t particularly but there were some queries raised in the first thread.

Thank you to all first thread posters, even the small minority who were abusive to me and/or my opinions. Coherent arguments may have been more persuasive.

I have read many posts, but not all. I do have work to do!

In answer to some queries:

Yes I was drunk - explains GR typo in the first title not GE. Although that could well have been a Freudian slip too.

I am English living in England.

I’m not an entitled git living in a Stately home eating cucumber sandwiches. Like most I have been hit very hard by mortgage rate and utility price rises.

I restricted my request to English voters because I don’t understand other UK countries voter motivations.

a) Scotland has voted in a party which in my opinion is morally bankrupt (maybe financially too?) and totally incompetent.

b) Wales has elected a party which means when they go for a drive they’ll likely be overtaken by cyclists - maybe very fit joggers too

c) I genuinely don’t understand Northern Ireland politics. Didn’t even know there were no Tories there till reading it on one of the posts.

Totally get why so many won’t vote Tory, but for me freedom of speech is a die in a ditch issue.

Here’s what Angela Eagle is reported to have said will be in the Labour manifesto:

“• Strengthening the law so anti-LGBT+ hate crimes are treated as aggravated offenses”

For this I read anyone stating biological facts risks being banged up. JKR no doubt top of their hit list.

So give me another option to stop this madness other than vote Tory.

If all posters on the first thread had said they weren’t going to vote Labour due to their threat to women’s rights maybe Labour would have paused for thought about their policies. But seems very many women will vote Labour anyway so they don’t have to worry.

Very very happy to vote Labour and kick the Tories out if they will commit unequivocally to protect women’s rights, parents rights and freedom of speech. Otherwise not a chance.

OP, you are presumably well aware that the Tories won't commit to any of those. So why would you contemplate voting for them?

TroysMammy · 29/03/2024 19:24

@Hurrydash it would have been better if you had included the other nations in your title but there you go, only England matters.

JessS1990 · 29/03/2024 19:25

Is this thread a bit like the ones that some posters liked to start about Keir's beers. Just a bid to keep how awful the Tories are in the public eye to ensure their total rout at the next general election.

MuggedByReality · 29/03/2024 19:26

You are wasting your time, OP.

Outside the tiny MN echo chamber the number of women who will feel strongly enough about trans issues for it to actually change the way they vote to support the tories at the election is negligible. And it’s highly likely that most of those who do already live in very safe Labour seats in London & university cities. Labour know this of course, which is why they are ignoring the issue.

coastalhawk · 29/03/2024 19:27

Tory policies destroy women's rights and lives. Child maintenance Service, childcare, rape prosecutions, single parents, cost of living affects women more, domestic abuse funding and legal aid cuts, austerity hurt women more. I could go on for pages and pages about the way the right/tories are bad for women. Abortion rights!? Your narrow focus in blinding you to other things. Labour isn't amazing but still far better. I'm GC btw.

Womens Budget group has good resources about how economic decisions by the tories affect women more: wbg.org.uk/

Had 86% of austerity fallen on women? fullfact.org/economy/austerity-women/#:~:text=The%20EHRC%20report%20found%20that,varies%20according%20to%20income%20level.

Yes it is odd how she thinks the other three nations won't be affected by the outcome of the GE.

Surely those that live in those other nations, appreciate all the wisdom and gold that is shared by the English with them. Take Brexit for example.

You clearly are STILL drunk and you have a very poor grasp of politics !Id rather die than vote Tory which would please them as Iam a lifelong socialist, female and disabled.

mynamechangemyrules · 29/03/2024 19:29

I'm in the 'you'd have to be fucking mental to vote Conservative' camp. I genuinely look at their faces weirdly when I find out they have. I can't think of anything good about them.

bevelino · 29/03/2024 19:30

A totally goady thread.

Warmwoolytights · 29/03/2024 19:31

I’m a GC feminist but wouldn’t vote Tory for anything at all. They have co-opted the trans issue because it fits into their populist culture war, not because they are remotely concerned about women’s rights. Worse, they are seizing the opportunity to roll back on ‘diversity’ full stop, which will impact all sorts of policies designed to shift some of the power in this country away from middle class white men. Anyone voting Conservative because they think they are on the side of women is deluded.

Sass53271 · 29/03/2024 19:31

Yes I'm sure those tory MPs in the Garrick Club are truly fighting for your rights OP.

Redlarge · 29/03/2024 19:31

They hate women. Utter scum. Hell will freeze over before i vote Tory.

HormonalHairyPoppins · 29/03/2024 19:32

blondieminx · 29/03/2024 18:12

exactly this. Staying up on election night to watch all the portillo moments 😁

This.
As a HCP and a mum to a disabled child, I'll also be staying up to watch all the Portillo moments.

Hell would freeze over before I would ever consider voting Tory.

NavyKoala · 29/03/2024 19:32

I think the explanation to why OP was appealing to English voters only and not all UK voters actually makes it worse rather than better.

whiteroseredrose · 29/03/2024 19:33

Oooh. I know where you're coming from but we are in such a mess after 14 years of Tory rule, I just couldn't.

I'm going to be looking at environmental promises as a starting point. Everything else is rearranging chairs on the Titanic.

DrunkenElephant · 29/03/2024 19:35

There is nothing, absolutely nothing in this world that would make me vote Tory.

People are fucking dying, children are living in absolute poverty, all of our vital services have been cut to the bone.

I wish they’d just call the election.

ShortColdandGrey · 29/03/2024 19:35

Fuck off, as a decent human being I will never vote Conservative.

KateF · 29/03/2024 19:36

Not this woman. Never have and never will.

CoatRack · 29/03/2024 19:36

"Environmental promises" are the definition of rearranging deck chairs.

The UK accounts for 1% of global emissions, so even if you returned the entire country to the stone age, it would make next to no difference globally.

Sass53271 · 29/03/2024 19:42

I'm not selfish and I have a moral compass so, even though it'll cost me VAT on school fees, I care about the bigger issues that affect everyone so I will never vote Tory. Ever.

SophiaElise · 29/03/2024 19:44

Have never voted Tory and never will. Imagine believing those liars truly care about women's issues.

Surroundedbyfools · 29/03/2024 19:51

Hell will literally freeze over before I would ever consider voting Tory. Despicable bastards !
