To want every woman in England to vote Tory at the GE

Hurrydash · 29/03/2024 18:00

Wow. I started a thread with 1000 posts on a topic in 12 hours and Mumsnet got ‘full’

One more off the bucket list!

So MN told me to start a new thread if I wanted to post anything else. I didn’t particularly but there were some queries raised in the first thread.

Thank you to all first thread posters, even the small minority who were abusive to me and/or my opinions. Coherent arguments may have been more persuasive.

I have read many posts, but not all. I do have work to do!

In answer to some queries:

Yes I was drunk - explains GR typo in the first title not GE. Although that could well have been a Freudian slip too.

I am English living in England.

I’m not an entitled git living in a Stately home eating cucumber sandwiches. Like most I have been hit very hard by mortgage rate and utility price rises.

I restricted my request to English voters because I don’t understand other UK countries voter motivations.

a) Scotland has voted in a party which in my opinion is morally bankrupt (maybe financially too?) and totally incompetent.

b) Wales has elected a party which means when they go for a drive they’ll likely be overtaken by cyclists - maybe very fit joggers too

c) I genuinely don’t understand Northern Ireland politics. Didn’t even know there were no Tories there till reading it on one of the posts.

Totally get why so many won’t vote Tory, but for me freedom of speech is a die in a ditch issue.

Here’s what Angela Eagle is reported to have said will be in the Labour manifesto:

“• Strengthening the law so anti-LGBT+ hate crimes are treated as aggravated offenses”

For this I read anyone stating biological facts risks being banged up. JKR no doubt top of their hit list.

So give me another option to stop this madness other than vote Tory.

If all posters on the first thread had said they weren’t going to vote Labour due to their threat to women’s rights maybe Labour would have paused for thought about their policies. But seems very many women will vote Labour anyway so they don’t have to worry.

Very very happy to vote Labour and kick the Tories out if they will commit unequivocally to protect women’s rights, parents rights and freedom of speech. Otherwise not a chance.

All this gender madness has happened under the Tories, OP. Women have been disproportionately affected by their policies and austerity, and as a lifelong (staunchly GC) feminist I will never, ever vote for them as long as I live. They don’t give a flying fuck about my rights.

BigMandsTattooPortfolio · 29/03/2024 18:20

No. Never.

AffIt · 29/03/2024 18:21

I'm Scottish.

Hell will literally freeze over before I vote Tory.

Figgygal · 29/03/2024 18:21

Wouldn't piss on a single one of them if they were on fire - most corrupt government in modern history they've broken this country and the sooner they're gone the better

Scattery · 29/03/2024 18:23

OP, go vote how you like, and if the Tories get in again, you can go for a swim in raw sewage, stand in Brexit queues, watch schools and hospitals collapse, but still congratulate yourself on thinking about other people's genitals. FFS.

TheIcecreamManCometh · 29/03/2024 18:24

They don't care about you OP. They just know to pay lip service to get your vote. More fool you if you waste it.

MarkWithaC · 29/03/2024 18:25

Voting Tory would be voting for hateful policies like Rwanda, tacitly agreeing with or at least not objecting to Liz Truss tanking the economy, being ok with art, music etc being taken away from state schools and available only to those who can pay for private schools, and a multitude of other evils.

I am fed up with men who say they’re women and am staunchly GC. But I’d be cutting off my nose to spite my face if I voted Tory because of that.
Starmer changes like the wind as the
situation demands, and I think he’ll reverse-ferret if/when he gets into power.

Octavia64 · 29/03/2024 18:25

I think that they are just saying this in order to try to win a few votes.

In the unlikely event they win the next election they'll go back on it pretty quickly.

FWIW I think Rishi has done a good job of stopping the absolute shit show that is the current U.K. public sector getting much worse but the tories do not have a good record over their 14 years and state education and healthcare are in truly dire straits.

mitogoshi · 29/03/2024 18:25

Never, I'm not selfish

HelloMiss · 29/03/2024 18:26

mitogoshi · 29/03/2024 18:25

Never, I'm not selfish

I won't be either I don't think!

Soz op!

CallMeMabel · 29/03/2024 18:27

Christ, not this again. There is no good reason to vote Tory if you have any sort of moral compass at all.

Mariannas · 29/03/2024 18:28

Remember, the shit show that is happening now such as men being allowed in women’s prisons and single sex spaces, and kids being given puberty blockers/cross sex hormones has all happened under the Tory government

MinervaMcGonagallsCat · 29/03/2024 18:30

Sorry but it's more important to me to oust my SNP MP and that means voting Labour.

Noraton · 29/03/2024 18:30

Im a British ethnic minority and I will not be voting Tory. OP can you seriously not see it from other people's POV?

MinervaMcGonagallsCat · 29/03/2024 18:32

I'm gender critical but I don't have a problem with

Strengthening the law so anti-LGBT+ hate crimes are treated as aggravated offenses

As long as other protected characteristics are similarly safeguarded.

IClaudine · 29/03/2024 18:33

Wales has elected a party which means when they go for a drive they’ll likely be overtaken by cyclists - maybe very fit joggers too

Oh seriously, lay off with such ridiculous hyperbole. Stop using Wales for your anti-Labour hate. It is lazy Tory rhetoric which Sunak et al always resort to when desperate.

bozzabollix · 29/03/2024 18:33

No thank you. Not falling for their latest attempt at a culture war like so many people on here.

I used to work in the same building as a transsexual and we used the very same toilet. We’d even discuss things at the sink (her journey was fascinating actually, and the loos were the place to have the privacy to talk about it). And you know what? I’m alive, intact, unmolested. This whole anti transgender thing is so over the top. And they’re using it to rein mugs in like you, despite the fact Tories have the worst record on helping women.

Remember the bill to outlaw upskirting photos being gerrymandered by an old, sexist Tory MP, evidently on the side of men who wanted to secretly film women, THAT’S who you’re voting for. It’s not for women, it’s for those easily lead.

IClaudine · 29/03/2024 18:34

Honestly, why is MN allowing you another bite of the cherry on this, just because you got your arse handed to you on the other thread?

IClaudine · 29/03/2024 18:35

I note you haven't been brave enough to enable voting this time!

TheGoogleMum · 29/03/2024 18:36

No I can't vote for the conservatives. I disagree with Labour on some important issues but for me they are still the better choice. We need a decent third option really but that isn't going to happen

vodkaredbullgirl · 29/03/2024 18:36

IClaudine · 29/03/2024 18:35

I note you haven't been brave enough to enable voting this time!

I noticed that too.

RoseyLentil · 29/03/2024 18:38

Ugh 🤢

Lengokengo · 29/03/2024 18:38

I’m gender critical and still will not vote Tory. I have voted for each of the main parties at one time or another on the basis of their manifesto. Will do the same again this time EXCEPT 14 years of Tory awfulness means you cannot trust a word this current lot say, so will ignore their manifesto this time.

BigMandsTattooPortfolio · 29/03/2024 18:39

I would consider it a moral failing if I ever voted for those venal, avaricious cabal of crooks.

FourLeggedBuckers · 29/03/2024 18:39

You can want what you like.

Fortunately women get to make their own choices, and I certainly won’t be choosing to vote Conservative.

I’d rather David Cameron a pig than have another Tory government, and I’m certainly not daft enough to be manipulated by their efforts to stoke up a culture war.
