Will this trend ever end, does anyone think?
I don’t judge anyone getting surgery etc, heaven knows I need help with my lines…but the same as everyone else look is pretty weird.
Have just seen some videos from the 80’s & 90’s and just the variation in the way actors etc looked is incredible, so natural and beautiful

Also hoping all this ends by the time my Dd is a teen. I was a teen in the 90’s, yes we wore make up and cared how we looked, but nothing like these days

“I was very attractive” 🤢who says that

Someone who was very attractive?

IamnotSethRogan · 31/03/2024 09:26

Yeah it really is an odd look. I watched that new Lindsey Lohan film (I know🙄) and I thought all the work she had done made it look like she was mid 40's. I was shocked to see she was the same age as me. It also.made a terrible film worse, because I think facial expressions would.have helped.

First of all this made me laugh!

Second of all. I'm sad you aren't Seth Rogan. I'm pretty sure I'm meant to be his best friend.

I'm just going to say I like you. 🌻

I've read a lot of your posts tonight and I really respect the way you conduct yourself. It's nice to see.

A once stunning family member now looks like Janice from the muppets.

Like this…

Botox, frozen faces and big lips
DoraSpenlow · 31/03/2024 13:04

Yes, sadly.

Grapewrath · 31/03/2024 13:10

i look miles better for having a bit of Botox. Everyone always comments that I look well afterwards although I don’t go for the full frozen look. I look loads older than my age without it- pale girl with sun damage
im not a big fan of all the fillers but if it makes women feel better then that’s their call not mine

Tessiebear2023 · 31/03/2024 15:23

We used to cover our faces with white powder and shave our hair-lines to get higher foreheads. It's just a fashion, and like all fashions it will disappear.

Laughing at people’s appearances isn’t having a ‘sense of humour’. It’s having insecurities so you feel the need to belittle and make-fun of others.

Bless you though. Fortunately I never experienced my parents laugh at me when I was young. Unlike some.

I’m not a delicate flower and can happily laugh at myself as well as others like most people I know. There are funny videos of women revealing their duck lips that their family or OH find hilarious. They’re not fussed they like the attention and know exactly what their family’s reaction will be. But they like everyone I know have a sense of humour.

It’s insecurities that feed this obsession with duck lips, BBLs, fake eyebrows, tans etc. I’ll keep my natural look with wrinkles as I don’t need to conform to some weird porn star look.

I think it's on its way out already tbh and it looks very dated/ down market
"Clean girl" is in.
Meticulous skin care, glassy complexion, minimal look make up,glossy hair.
Lots of Korean skincare and use of daily spf.

Tracker1234 · 31/03/2024 17:31

I have Botox but wouldn’t have lip fillers. It’s not the young people who go overboard that is key here. It’s the women who have it quietly and without fuss and are told by friends that they don’t need it. I am hopefully one of them. No one has asked me whether I have had anything done, when I have told them if it happens to come up in conversation 9 times out of 10 I get a text or email asking me how much it cost, whether it hurts and how they would never have guessed.

I go to someone who has a light touch and is known for it. She tells me there are many practitioners who are less light handed because some women like to look ‘done’.

I think it helps that I have a fringe and hair around my face. I have a friend who has had a face lift. It’s OK but it wouldn’t be for me. Up to her of course.

@MurderousCheekbones ? What do you mean? I’m talking about the distinctive look many people have, where they all look the same-mainly Botox and big lips

Yes I agree, see loads in our town centre, all look like clones, thick ugly eyebrows, eyelashes like melted LPs. Swollen lips you see coming around the corner before the person- it’s a shame that they spoil their faces. My friends daughter has lost part of her nose due to filler blocking a blood vessel, the skin has died & now scarred for life. Most fellas hate all that fakery!

I completely agree. Fashions always get extreme right before they change, and I think we've reached the limits of the plastic, over made-up look. Some people of course will always hang onto a trend if they really like it, but most will just move on to the next big thing.. and then end up over-doing that too. Perhaps the natural look will get to the stage where we can just let our upper lip hair grow wild, I'd like to see that!😂

lavenderlou · 28/03/2024 22:57

I live in Essex and there are lots of people with this look. It looks so obviously fake. I'm sure botox is here to stay but hopefully the big lips will go the same way as the caterpillar eyebrows of a few years ago.

eyebrows like slugs are very popular up North 🤣

Caterguin · 31/03/2024 18:02

I always thought makeup was meant to make you look like yourself, but a better version- hence accentuating eyes/ lips/cheek bones. It also meant you could play around with different looks (hello goth years me!)The lip/eyelash/filler thing just makes everyone look the same.

Interesting that the clean girl aesthetic is growing. It's much harder to pull off as an older woman, which is presumably part of the attraction. Dd looks lovely in just her skin; I look like my face has melted without some colour. I am pale as a corpse though.

pastypirate · 31/03/2024 18:07

I've been watching lorry hill videos. Even the slebs I thought haven't had adaptations have. It's a bit depressing.

Some botox looks good imo I'm v happy with my two areas. I certainly don't judge procedures.

But the buckle fat removal makes people look like skeletor and I don't understand it.

I disagree
As an older woman it's a good haircut, good skincare, light make up with well made, well fitting clothes.
The best version of yourself.
Even if someone has a few wrinkles the above looks good on them.

ColBoulter · 31/03/2024 18:14

Ps clean girl isn't necessarily no make up, just very natural and pared down.

Majesticalling · 31/03/2024 19:05

There's a local Facebook page advertising 'treatments'. The before and after photos are painful to look at. Before = pretty young women with balanced features. After = bizarre distorted faces with massive shiny lips, weirdly contoured noses, and enormous cheeks. I find it so disturbing and sad. IMO it goes beyond fashion and is a marker of much deeper issues.

PeachyPeachTrees · 31/03/2024 20:28

I'm seeing more and more girls with lip fillers etc. It's become normal like hair extensions and fake nails. I don't like the fake doll look. Maybe they don't like my boring face!

Mothmansknickers · 31/03/2024 20:44

The pumped-up lips look seem to ruin people's faces. Also, the constant licking of them makes me gag.

faffadoodledo · 31/03/2024 20:57

They look kind of hard don't they @Mothmansknickers? Lips should be soft.

Mothmansknickers · 31/03/2024 21:16

@faffadoodledo Yes, like a spot that needs to be popped.
Also ruins someone's profile.

Can I just point out while you're all slagging off big lips, that some of us are born with this as a feature of our ethnicity?

Do you have any idea what it's like to hear the same jibes you heard growing up repeated on a thread of adult women? "They don't seem to realise the symbolism behind the huge lips either. It's what porn stars do to look good on camera performing a certain act." Right. Glad to know that's how you fetishize a perfectly natural feature.

You don't like the big lips look? Well thanks. 💋🙄

Edited

You probably have a beautiful, natural lip, but these girls/ women, some are getting them stretched to within an inch of their lives . when the filler has worn off the lips must go down like a deflated balloon. Some women, including myself are just starting there was nothing probably wrong with their lips in the first place.

It’s lovely you are comfortable in your skin but there are enough people in the world judging women on their appearance and contributing to our insecurities without women turning on each other and joining in. A little kindness goes a long way and maybe in the future our daughters will all be as comfortable in their skin as you are lucky enough to be.
