Botox, frozen faces and big lips

Will this trend ever end, does anyone think?
I don’t judge anyone getting surgery etc, heaven knows I need help with my lines…but the same as everyone else look is pretty weird.
Have just seen some videos from the 80’s & 90’s and just the variation in the way actors etc looked is incredible, so natural and beautiful

Also hoping all this ends by the time my Dd is a teen. I was a teen in the 90’s, yes we wore make up and cared how we looked, but nothing like these days

Not this again.

@EmilyTjP What again?

I've only ever seen a few people in real life who look this way. I don't know anyone personally who's into this. I don't find it appealing but each to their own.

The ‘I don’t judge’ BUT Botox threads. Don’t like it, don’t get it

EarringsandLipstick · 28/03/2024 22:47

I see it everywhere.

And yes, in the acting world, it's ubiquitous, and even when done well, there's something lost, in terms of natural beauty or attraction.

It's understandable why people in the public eye especially do it but it ruins them.

BlessedKali · 28/03/2024 22:48

I also see it everywhere in cities. It's deeply unattractive and looks very painful. Such a shame these young girls do this to themselves.

Yourhappinessisourhapinessvom · 28/03/2024 22:48

I see it a lot and more and more, I just think it’s sad as I want to see real faces, not all the same, some are ruining genuine beauty

But OP is not asking about getting it herself. She's commenting on an aesthetic she doesn't like, and I agree.

People can have opinions!

I don't know about 'young'. It's any age, as far as I can see.

Yourhappinessisourhapinessvom · 28/03/2024 22:50

@BlessedKali If only they realised how naturally lovely they are when young, I never thought that about myself so I get it, now I look back at photos and can’t believe how great we all looked.

Not this again with the "not this again". Just let posters post the things they want to chat about. You think everyone is aware of every discussion that has ever happened on Mumsnet?

Yourhappinessisourhapinessvom · 28/03/2024 22:56

@PattyDuckface Thank you 🙏 I didn’t actually know/realise there were more posts about this, I hadn’t seen any, if I had I’d just read them and not post 🤷🏻‍♀️

I think it'll eventually go out of fashion, and everyone will look back and laugh at how ridiculous it looked

The 'Hide Thread' button would be quicker and easier.
As you were saying OP.. 😇

I live in Essex and there are lots of people with this look. It looks so obviously fake. I'm sure botox is here to stay but hopefully the big lips will go the same way as the caterpillar eyebrows of a few years ago.

PumpkinSly · 28/03/2024 22:57

I agree OP, I think these young women having filler and tweaks on their perfectly lovely faces will regret it when they are a bit older. I wish they could appreciate how brilliant they look without all the filler.

HellersK · 28/03/2024 22:58

We are programmed from conception to age and die but modern society tells us we have decreased value as we get older. Previous generations revered the aged as experienced and wise but nowadays we tossed in the scrapheap as soon as the first jowl as appears. Utterly fucked up of course but difficult for some to resist the incessant "eternal youth" bullshit.

ChedderGorgeous · 28/03/2024 22:59

Although so many public figures have this look, In real life, botox/ lip filler / cheek filler just looks strange to me. These people don't look younger imo- just the same age but weird!

SantaBarbaraMonica · 28/03/2024 22:59

I judge society for putting vulnerable women into the mindset that they need to.

Women often look like a parody of themselves. Men just get to be themselves.

Yourhappinessisourhapinessvom · 28/03/2024 23:02

@fatFriendsFan Thats what I’m wondering too…but when

OP posts:
RobertaFirmino · 28/03/2024 23:05

I'm not keen on the look. My DM wasn't keen on my 90s Siouxsie Sioux inspired make up. Her own DM didn't like her late 60s face painting and only wore lipstick for special occasions. Anything else was 'fast'. Her DM used face powder that contained lead.

In 20 years time, women who went in for fillers etc. will be tearing their hair out at their own daughters appearances.

ColonelRhubarbBikini · 28/03/2024 23:05

This isn’t a new thing though is it?! The look may be different but think back how many potentially damaging beauty procedures have been de rigeur in the past. Sunbeds in the 80’s, starving yourself in the 90’s. Way back to lead based make up and corsets.

People can do what they like with their faces/bodies. They always have despite severe consequences. People say how terrible this new fad is but at least it’s not giving them skin cancer or lifelong disordered eating

MurderousCheekbones · 28/03/2024 23:08

Your OP makes no sense.

How does having your wrinkles reduced make you look like 'everyone else'? You're still just you but a bit less wrinkly!

Yourhappinessisourhapinessvom · 28/03/2024 23:10

@MurderousCheekbones ? What do you mean? I’m talking about the distinctive look many people have, where they all look the same-mainly Botox and big lips

OP posts:
StarDolphins · 28/03/2024 23:11

I agree op. I have no desire to look the same as everyone else. I accept ageing. Everyone just looks exactly the same & it’s such a shame. I loved it when everyone looked different! I like unique.

Out of my friendship group, there’s me & 3 others that are Botox/filler free and if you delve into their personalities, it’s the insecure ones that the work done. They were all much more beautiful before too. Obviously this is my opinion of course.
