Botox, frozen faces and big lips

Will this trend ever end, does anyone think?
I don’t judge anyone getting surgery etc, heaven knows I need help with my lines…but the same as everyone else look is pretty weird.
Have just seen some videos from the 80’s & 90’s and just the variation in the way actors etc looked is incredible, so natural and beautiful

Also hoping all this ends by the time my Dd is a teen. I was a teen in the 90’s, yes we wore make up and cared how we looked, but nothing like these days

Imagine I wrote a thread about not liking fat women with their lardy arses poured into skintight leggings; I would get slaughtered.
But they have ‘done’ this to themselves just the same by stuffing their faces with crap.
Either we judge people on their appearance or we don’t.
Are you beautiful op? I’m sure as hell not and I would hate anyone to critique my appearance.

There's nothing stopping you.

Jifmicroliquid · 29/03/2024 07:08

Im guessing the ‘not this again’ posters are sat there with their duck lips and frozen faces.

I’m with you OP, its a dreadful trend and everyone winds up with the same look. The most beautiful women I see are the ones with normal lips. Unfortunately there aren’t many of them around anymore.

Ok so a lot of these women are fat. Is that better?
I see many overweight people, and they are a lot younger than me too. As you age you have an excuse. Wait until the menopause hits you and you will be the same.
What I think looks odd is fat fake lips, long spikey nails, botoxed face, thick spider eyelashes, fake hair ( or bleached hair with black roots) worn with leisure wear. So I see women with all of the above then they wear tight, arse hugging leggings, crocks and a hoddy.
It just seems all at odds.
It would go better with more stylish, fitted clothes.
I don’t want to see the outline of anyones pubic bone or arse thank you.
Oh and I’m seeing more and more scruffy looking fat men, plenty at an age where there is no excuse.
Is that better?
Ott faces and fat.

yes but not judging on appearances should preclude people having to do damaging and dangerous stuff to themselves in order to be acceptable to society. We no longer see swallowing tapeworms for weight control, binding feet to keep them small and wearing rib deforming corsets as being a good thing so hopefully this fad will burn itself out . We have no idea of the long term impact of botox and fillers on people's bodies so who knows what issues are being stored up for the future.

Swallowing tape worms?? 😱🤮

The ‘I don’t judge’ BUT Botox threads. Don’t like it, don’t get it

I think @Yourhappinessisourhapinessvom is merely questioning how this look has become so popular? That's not judging. I question why so many folk apply such large eyelashes - I'm not judging them, sinoly curious as to why they like this clearly unrealistic look. It's their choice but it does intrugue me.

ManchesterBeatrice · 29/03/2024 07:14

I actually think the big lip thing is on the way out.

I don't know anybody in real life who has big lips, but I feel like it's becoming less popular on TV. Which maybe will feed down…

AskingAdviceToday · 29/03/2024 07:14

It actually makes people look older.

I was just about to post this about the lips... I think a more natural look is definitely becoming more common!
I don't have Botox but I do love the smooth Botox forehead look!

Whycantiwinmillionsandsquillions · 29/03/2024 07:16

Yes I think it’s the fakeness of it all. Especially when paired with scruffy/casual/sportswear type clothing.
Clothing which is fine if you are doing a sports activity or have called somewhere after doing it. However it’s becoming increasingly common to wear this look for more formal occasions and it’s not a good look.
Its at odds to the rest of the body.

Daisykath · 29/03/2024 07:17

I’m also looking forward to the obsession over skincare passing. Pre-teens spending ££ on skincare routines - what?! And women my age (40s) absolutely terrified of their skin showing their actual age. Even without Botox they are buying into the marketing of all these companies spending a fortune on serums, gels etc just to put more chemicals into their body.

Mollyplop999 · 29/03/2024 07:18

Yourhappinessisourhapinessvom I see it more and more and live in a village not a city. Some of them look awful ,bother skin is very shiny and you're right it looks painful. Also true that you don't realise how attractive you are when you're young.
Of course it's everyone's own choice , I just find it a bit sad.

PermanentTemporary · 29/03/2024 07:20

Thee threads are finally making me see it - I met up with a cousin I only see occasionally last week, and halfway through the chat realised she's usìng Botox, we're both mid 50s but her forehead is completely smooth and probably the rest of her face too. Looked great tbh, it's the first time I genuinely contemplated it myself but gave up on the idea 5 minutes later. I'm currently spending ££ on trying not to lose my teeth, which I think has more value for me. It's our own money though.

My dp's ex wife has stuff done to her lips, I've no idea what. I do think it looks quite good, she's certainly better looking than me. I do see some terrible versions of the lip thing and the cheek fillers, and I think it's very aging. But then I thought a lot of the stuff we did to ourselves in the 80s looked appalling too - perms and oddly green highlights and whatnot, and bloody sunbeds (I'm amazed that you can still see sunbed places around, we walked past one in a mall in Basingstoke the other day, lots of teak-coloured women). I'm sure the sunbeds are more likely to kill you than cheek filler tbh.

Overall I definitely agree with you, but just a side note - everything is made of chemicals, so saying 'put more chemicals into their bodies' is a bit meaningless.
It was also on the news recently that Scotland has lots of these businesses/salons/people carrying out procedures, and many are actually not properly qualified to offer the treatments they do. Quite frightening really.

You are correct we don’t know the long term effects of Botox etc. However we do know the long term effect of obesity, increased risk of heart problems, diabetes, cancers etc.
So is it okay to comment on people being fat?

Ausish · 29/03/2024 07:31

Does it really matter? People are entitled to look - or alter their appearance - in any way that makes them happy. It’s absolutely nobody’s business and if you don’t like it, just don’t do it.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. You can manage your face. Let others manage theirs.

Cathbrownlow · 29/03/2024 07:32

I love having Botox and fillers. I am old, and in my case it replaces what used to be there but then disappeared, ie smooth skin and a discernible upper lip .

It doesn't replace anything, just gives an illusion of doing so, but it's your money and your body so clearly also your choice.

I moved to the U.K. and was bewildered that everyone looked the same- big lips, filled cheeks, massive eyebrows, no wrinkles, loads of foundation, fake lashes. I live near a city and honestly it is everyone... everyone! My obsession is- how does everyone afford it..?! I briefly thought about joining them 😂 looked into lip fillers thinking a little might be nice... it's so expensive! I can't afford it as a middle aged professional, how is everyone else getting so much done?!

Almost no-one I see looks like this. I live in Oxfordshire (nowhere especially posh!). Someone with the heavily Botoxed look would be very noticeable. Perhaps it's a regional thing?

Grumpsy · 29/03/2024 07:41

Op in the words of Ned Stark - ´ everything before the word but is horse shit’

Just admit you hate Botox and judge those who have immovable faces and trout pouts 🤷🏻‍♀️

Few people have it where we live either, but as soon as we hit bigger cities it's more common.

RickyGervaislovesdogs · 29/03/2024 07:45

I think they’ll have regrets at some point. They’ll need more and more Botox and filler as they get older. Looking more ridiculous each time. Even you think it’s subtle now, it won’t be in a few years when you have to pump more in.

Pete Burns springs to mind. He used to get mocked, but he nailed the look.

Noselikeabluetit · 29/03/2024 07:59

It’s so unappealing but I think people can’t win, especially in the public eye, you grow old gracefully and get picked apart, you get the stuff done you get picked apart. I do think the beauty is in the imperfections though, Stephanie Lange did a good video on this recently but with a silly title something like ‘ugly beautiful’.

Abbimae · 29/03/2024 08:03

It’s really scary. I teach up to 20 and the amount of them that have filler already plus so much Botox is scary. They look 40.

ThePoshUns · 29/03/2024 08:07

I was in Asda yesterday. Duck lips were de riguer as well as those Disney eyelashes.

biscuitsnow · 29/03/2024 08:08

I dont agree that everyone looked better in the 80s. I watched the film shirley valentine the other day and was shocked to find out that pauline collins was only 40 in that film. Dont get me wrong- she's lovely, but she looked way older and really quite frumpy in the way she was styled and dressed. Everyone I know who is that age now looks much younger and they haven't had loads of botox or fillers.

I also dont agree that you see frozen faces and huge lips everywhere. Yes, you might see some women like that but it's certainly not the norm unless you spend your life on certain instagram accounts. If it's not for you then dont do it, but this idea that life was idyllic in the 80s/90s is silly. Women were still objectified (page 3 - remember that?) and 90s fashion was "heroin chic" where the style was rail thin and looking like you'd been dragged through a hedge. There will ways been certain appearance trends - if you dont like them then dont follow them. But its not true that everyone follows these trends.
