Botox, frozen faces and big lips

Will this trend ever end, does anyone think?
I don’t judge anyone getting surgery etc, heaven knows I need help with my lines…but the same as everyone else look is pretty weird.
Have just seen some videos from the 80’s & 90’s and just the variation in the way actors etc looked is incredible, so natural and beautiful

Also hoping all this ends by the time my Dd is a teen. I was a teen in the 90’s, yes we wore make up and cared how we looked, but nothing like these days

Overall I definitely agree with you, but just a side note - everything is made of chemicals, so saying 'put more chemicals into their bodies' is a bit meaningless.
It was also on the news recently that Scotland has lots of these businesses/salons/people carrying out procedures, and many are actually not properly qualified to offer the treatments they do. Quite frightening really.

Yea you’re right, everything is chemicals but ‘everything’ doesn’t cost £50 a pop and is just a capitalist ploy to get women to feel insecure and not enough so they spend more money! 😫

With regards to the long term effect of botox- that has been used since the 80s for children and adults with limb spasticity to relieve uncomfortable symptoms at much higher doses than you'd put in faces so yes, we do know its safe long term. Fillers is a much newer treatment on the other hand.

ThePoshUns · 29/03/2024 08:15

I know a few people my age who have fillers and Botox.
I don't think it makes them look younger so not sure what the point of it is.

Fully aware of the medical uses.
We are talking about injecting a neuro toxin into the face.
It changes your ability to show normal micro facial expressions in response to others and this affects the brain.
I also wonder how having a parent who can't show micro facial expressions affects child development?

I know two women with lip fillers. One has more subtle fillers but it is still immediately obvious as the lips still poke out unnaturally in profile. The other is a colleague and has massive filled lips and huge eyelashes. During Teams meetings I can't help but be distracted by her lips. They don't move naturally, resemble swollen sausages and look painful. My teen nieces get something done to their lips to give a bee stung look. IMO, none of these women are enhanced by these alterations.

biglipsdontcare · 29/03/2024 08:30

Can I just point out while you're all slagging off big lips, that some of us are born with this as a feature of our ethnicity?

Do you have any idea what it's like to hear the same jibes you heard growing up repeated on a thread of adult women? "They don't seem to realise the symbolism behind the huge lips either. It's what porn stars do to look good on camera performing a certain act." Right. Glad to know that's how you fetishize a perfectly natural feature.

You don't like the big lips look? Well thanks. 💋🙄

Well clearly.
I thought it would cost much more than that to be treated by a qualified practitioner tbh.

ThePoshUns · 29/03/2024 08:32

@biglipsdontcare , there's a difference between natural big lips and filler enhanced ones.
I have big lips too and was picked on at school for them.
If people make fun of your lips and your ethnicity that's a whole other level of ignorance.

I was critised for big lips, big eyebrows, curly hair and biggish bown eyes as a child. I never cared what anyone else said tbh but it makes me laugh that they're going for at least 3 of those now. People are never happy.

@Fairyliz well done for getting some high quality fat bashing into a totally unrelated thread.

I think it's all to do with SM
It looks amazing on Insta/ FB but awful in RL

Looks awful on SM too imo. They look almost like another species, as far removed as a neanderthal.

I see it a lot and more and more, I just think it’s sad as I want to see real faces, not all the same, some are ruining genuine beauty

Well we can't have that, can we? But what about the majority of women who aren't beautiful? The conventionally unattractive women? The old women? Is that OK? Because it either is or it isn't. And if it isn't ok and its sad, how naturally beautiful you have decided to judge them to be is surely irrelevant. Do you not see the irony in judging women for trying to enhance their appearance, whilst using the word beautiful to describe a select few?

Westernesse · 29/03/2024 08:41

It is grotesque and perfect example of toxic femininity in this country to file alongside diet culture.

IntoTheMild · 29/03/2024 08:41

I do think having a frozen Botox face looks a bit scary but having wrinkles isn’t attractive to me either so I’ll be starting Botox soon. You can’t really win with aging.

Lip filler has become too popular that I now no longer like it, and I had it done two years ago!

The best way to 'win' with ageing is to accept it, there's no other realistic option. Keeping fit, eating well, good skincare, a flattering hair cut, clothes to suit your shape/colour. Trying to look too young is actually what ages people.

Natural looks so different to fake though. I am not white. I have thick lips as does my 19y daughter. It’s a world apart from the fake shiny plastic look created by lip filler.

Almost no-one I see looks like this. I live in Oxfordshire (nowhere especially posh!). Someone with the heavily Botoxed look would be very noticeable. Perhaps it's a regional thing?

Same. Must be confined to certain parts of the country? I’m not even rural, I live in London, albeit a yummy-mummy pocket of London. I sometimes see this look when I go into central London, but still it’s not as widespread as this thread suggests. I’m also not convinced it’s only a ‘UK thing’.

Rosestulips · 29/03/2024 08:47

When it’s done well, it can look natural and enhances good features.

A good doctor will do this, just need to avoid the people who’ve gained the qualification in a day

They’re not saying that though. They’re saying artificially inflated lips look strange as they don’t look natural. Naturally full lips look fine.

ShyTed · 29/03/2024 08:48

Now, I must admit (not far off 40) I get a wee bit of Botox twice a year and had my lips done 3/4 years ago (with 0.5ml so tiny) but I do agree people can go too far.
One thing I have noticed recently is the big makeup brands using models on social media who have massive lip, cheek, chin & jaw fillers and a lot of Botox. I can recognise all these things but young girls, teens might not. And then they wonder why they don’t look like these girls. And then they want all these “improvements”

ColBoulter · 29/03/2024 08:49

It's also capitalism.
Get people hooked on something they need to keep buying -winner , sit back and watch the money roll in
Carbs, then WW and SW once you are overweight, gym subs, then injections to lose weight.
Botox, fillers etc
Eyebrows, lashes, nails, hair extensions
Vapes
Encouraging people to spend on all this stuff rather than spend money on decent food etc

Ponoka7 · 29/03/2024 08:49

@Yourhappinessisourhapinessvom just out of interest, why do you need help with your lines? Perhaps we, as in especially women, need to change the way we talk and allow the talk around our skin and bodies, as we go through life changes.

I'm a each to their own, I'm in Liverpool and cosmetic aesthetics have been popular for decades now. I've never thought that women's bodies should be in or out of fashion. But there'll always be various tribes, who go for a certain look.

LovelyLinseed · 29/03/2024 08:50

At the hairdresser I get my hair washed by a lovely sweet 18y old. She likes to chat. She has to give most of her meagre income to her mum with whom she lives. Her mum spends all her time with her new partner and ignores her. She has a partner who sounds borderline abusive but she is grateful for his attention. She feels very vulnerable to me and I want to give her a hug.

Anyway she uses sunbeds twice a week and has lip fillers now. She is absolutely gorgeous anyway and doesn’t need any of these things. It makes me sad. She clearly has self-esteem issues and doesn’t feel good enough. The sunbed thing esp makes me worry for her a lot.

These are not good trends.

Yes, the lips look different themselves and also wrong on a face with features that don't match. Like silicone implants on a slim, small frame compared with naturally big boobs.
