To want every women in England to vote Tory at the GR

1000 replies

Hurrydash · 28/03/2024 02:01

So I don't agree with Angela Rayner's description of the Tories as scum, but I get her drift and if she'd been more tempered in her language I probably would have bought in.

HOWEVER

For me - and actually should be got everyone - the only real issue at the next GE is freedom of speech/women's rights.

I see Labour as the destroyer of these and so must vote against them. The only meaningful way to do this is to vote Tory which I am reluctant but prepared to do.

Is this unreasonable?

Happy to be convinced - for real not just words - if there is evidence Labour (Starmer 1 in 1000 women have a dick) may see the light before the GE.

Rightio, I was more interested in what @Hurrydash had to say tbh.

Why respond to my post if you aren’t interested in my response? Absolute roaster.

Crucible · 28/03/2024 08:32

Tory underfunding of just about everything whilst keeping their own noses firmly shoved in the trough has caused deep long lasting damage to the lives of women and all vulnerable members of our society. I couldn't give a shiny shit if they are defining us correctly, that's just them knowing the enemy.

Zyq · 28/03/2024 08:33

What are Labour's policies on women's rights??

They don't plan to reduce abortion time limits.
They don't plan to reduce maternity rights.
They don't plan to reduce women's employment rights.
They do plan to improve care facilities, which is an issue which disproportionately impacts on women.
They don't plan to remove benefits that help women, particularly those in single parent families.
Most materially, they don't have a track record of wrecking the economy whilst diverting government money to their friends and donors and causing the cost of living to rocket.

HTH, OP.

After feck knows how long under Welsh Labour I definitely won't be voting for them again and giving the state of pretty much every service they run I'm not sure how anyone thinks they're competent to be handed the keys to the treasury.

I moved from England to Wales six years ago. I find life here fine and certainly no worse than in England.

In fact, we have had more help from social services here than we did in England (disabled family member).

Yes there are lots of difficulties due to lack of funding, same as the rest of the UK.

TimeFlysWhenYoureHavingRum · 28/03/2024 08:34

Yabu. How many Tory MPs have had to stand down over proven sexual harassment or sexual assault incidents in the last few years? Compared to ANY other party?

Merrymouse · 28/03/2024 08:34

Perijobwoes · 28/03/2024 08:23

The Tories are spending hundreds of thousands to try and send a handful of people to Rwanda. Meanwhile migration is at a record high. Climate change is going to increase the number of people seeking refuge exponentially so I don’t think any party is going to have the answers to this issue to be honest.

And the reality is that the NHS is completely reliant on immigration for staff at all levels.

There is a difference between the rhetoric spouted by Tory populists like Lee Anderson and the reality faced by any government trying to actually govern. Since Brexit the Tories have been selling a fantasy, and they have reached the end of the line.

LadyKenya · 28/03/2024 08:34

You do you OP, there is no way in hell that I would dream of voting for the Conservatives. I will not even go into the reasons why, I want to stay in a good mood this morning.

Beezknees · 28/03/2024 08:35

I will never, ever, ever vote Tory. EVER.

Zyq · 28/03/2024 08:35

OP, what exactly is about the Tories' track record over the last 14 years that makes you feel they want to protect women's rights? Bearing in mind that, if they got in again, they would inevitably be more right wing (because most of the sensible centrist types have said they won't stand again), why do you have faith that a more right-wing Tory government won't reduce women's rights?

CrikeyMajikey · 28/03/2024 08:36

Never, ever.

Beezknees · 28/03/2024 08:36

And I don't need to "convince" you why I won't be voting Tory. Who I vote for is nothing to do with you or anyone else.

Gullsoaring · 28/03/2024 08:37

YANBU to vote for any party you want for whatever reason makes most sense to you.

That is how democracy works after all.

Am I confused or are you the one who answered a question I posed originally (and hence you replied to my post)? Maybe I am confused, maybe you are. Let's leave it at that.

When I first saw this thread title, I assumed it would be about this; https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-68671351

Yesterday the headline of this article was 'LABOUR WILL NOT COMMIT TO GOVERNMENT'S FREE CHILDCARE PLAN'. The content of the article has changed considerably too.

When my husband linked this article to me yesterday morning, it said that Labour ministers had stated the free childcare plan was not something they could realistically stretch to funding and that they were simply making fiscally sound decisions.

Now it seems the narrative has be re-written as 'Labour is in support of working parents that's why they're asking Ofsted to prove the scheme won't work so parents aren't let down'.

Sorry, but I smell a rat. I was completely undecided on who to vote for- neither party has exactly got a good track record. But threstening to swipe one of the only lifelines that's been given to working families in 20 years? Whatever spin you out on it.... FUCK. THAT. There is no waiting. Sensible, hard-working fanilies have planned around this. For me, once again, 'Labour' is showing the irony of their party name- because working people are always last on their list.

The pressure on families is immense, 9/10 with women taking the brunt. By all means plow wffort in to long term childcare reform- but that is no excuse to kick this can down the road. Change is needed now. Not 3, 5, 10 years down the line. Now.

I have to put my family first and I am not in a position to vote for any party who isn't seeing through the long-overdue childcare reforms. Fair play to those with young children who can afford to take the hundreds of £ a month hit to vote Labour.

I cant believe there are still people out there who believe the tories are on the side of women.

Good grief. When did we get so gullible.

Andthereyougo · 28/03/2024 08:40

You can want all you like OP but not going to happen.
Look at the rampant poverty in this country, the huge downturn in maternity care. Just two reasons women should never vote Tory.

Highsecurity · 28/03/2024 08:42

it’s about allowing men, all men, access to female-only spaces. The threat is from predatory men, not trans people as a group.

All men do not have access to female spaces and they won’t under Labour.

Labour have made it clear they will not support self ID.
Saying all men will have access to all female only spaces under Labour is a lie.

Prisons do not and will not.
Sports can legally exclude trans people due to birth sex. This is already clear in law and was made so by Labour. It’s up to each sporting organisation to do this.

No one polices toilets. It is not socially acceptable for just any men to walk into female toilets. It won’t be under Labour. Either way there is nothing actually stoping someone ‘dressing up as as a woman’ and going into toilets for bad purposes. No government is likely to stop every eventuality.

Rape and sexual assault groups and care providers can exclude people based on birth sex if it’s a proportionate means to achieve a legitimate aim this is already law. Made so by Labour.

I asked a question of OP.
You offered a reply (which was apparently a 'joke', though I am really not sure what was funny about it), and I indicated that it was OP's opinion I was really interested in.
You then proceeded to insult me, and are continuing to do so.
If it's on anyone, then it's pretty clear it's not me. As I said, let's leave it there.
Have a pleasant day.

101Nutella · 28/03/2024 08:45

YABU - the Tories were pushing for women to have more children but have not done anything to support us with childcare. Or anything to control COL so we can comfortably survive on one wage in many areas of the country.

the schools are crumbling and getting a go appointment is like the hunger games. They have been in power for 13 years now. They need to look in the mirror.

its genuinely pathetic to vote for this again as you don’t like a turn of phrase. And for what it’s worth - a group of people who profited off death and misery by giving their mates Covid contracts AND pushing more children in to poverty/food bank use is scumbag behaviour tbh.

The tories plan on free child care of 30 hours is completely undeliverable.... there simply isn't the nurseries or staff, they are promising stuff they wont be in power to deliver.

Why are you expecting Labour to commit to something that cannot be?

the Tories took us out of the EU, so now we are reliant on non EU workers for the jobs we don't want to do and they very often bring in large numbers of family dependants, hence almost a million extra people coming into the country each & every year.... which then place huge strain on public services....

Jovacknockowitch · 28/03/2024 08:47

As if the Tories give a fuck about women.
