To wonder which way the vote will go?

There'll be a general election this year and there's been such a lot of chat everywhere about the Torys losing.

I'd love to think this will be the case, but was thinking where will the votes go! I've always voted labour, and will again, but is there a chance the Torys might get back in?

Maybe there's a big set of silent voters who'll vote them back!

Is the consensus here that they will lose? And if so, to labour?

I'm a single issue floating voter.
my issue us womens rights and as such I'll be voting Tory.

73% of how many ,that actually bothered to vote?

64% of 18-24s voted in Brexit Referendum.

Why should older people get to decide on policy when they’re not the ones that will have to bear the brunt of it for many years to come? It was the exact same situation with Brexit

OK, but equally why do unemployed people get to vote when they're not contributing to the Public Purse? They shouldn't get a say in how our money is spent surely?

Or no-one under 25 because they haven't much experience of adult life and the concomitant responsibilities?

🙄

Yeah we've got police and crime commissioner coming up and I'll look at the ones who advocate women's safety

Think it’ll be a hung parliament and then a weak coalition that doesn’t get much done, followed by another Tory government in a few years.

People are rightly furious about the way Boris and his team of tipsy incompetents damaged and impoverished Britain. But, the Boris era is over, and Rishi is actually a very principled and competent man who is trying hard to sort out Boris’ mess. I also love that Rishi is Hindu, goodness knows we need a leader who believes in karma! I’d like to see Rishi given more of a chance to turn things around.

I was very hopeful of Kier Starmer when he first rose to the top of his party (a lawyer, yay), but now I despise him for his repeated refusals to stand up for women’s rights or even admit the problems with trans extremism. Also, I hate Kier’s policies, particularly the way he’s misleading parts of the electorate into thinking you need to tax private education to improve state education, some voters after listening to Kier now think taxpayers contribute to private schools. 😂🙈 I pulled my child out of state education because he wasn’t physically safe there, and now a privileged KC from a Surrey grammar school wants me to pay tax on the fees I’m scraping together, that I changed job to afford? He can fuck off. Taxing education is a huge legal change and will end up with after school clubs, music lessons and nurseries etc being taxed too. I remember when Labour scrapped education grants and introduced university fees and said don’t worry the fees will never rise over £1k per year. Ha!

I find Kier’s interviews evasive and not honest, and Angela Raynor has been very clear she hates people like me, so why would I vote for her team?

I also don’t like the way Kier seems to expect power to be handed to him on a plate because it’s somehow his turn. I don’t see anything to vote for there.

Have never voted Conservative in my life but probably will at next election. Certainly can’t vote Green / LibDem as I usually do because of their failures on women’s rights and their purges of any intelligent voices without their own parties while bowing down to transactivists. So after ruling out Labour, LibDem and Green, I’m not left with many options.

Edited

Firstly it was Truss.

Secondly rishi has done nothing to actually help those on lower incomes. He could've raised the personal allowance while taxing the mega rich but he decided not to.

Ah the old people don't vote the way I do so they are stupid and ignorant what do you hope to gain from such comments?
I think Labpur will get in but I doubt they will be the roaring success people on here seem to think they will be .

Not lefty in the slightest, actually right wing until a few years ago but good try! Neither party is a good option but it’s about making the best of a bad situation - the Torys have completely decimated public services over the last 14 years and have lost control of their own party, why would anyone with half a brain want that back in government?

Toys will win. Labour are just too wet to offer much competition I reckon, and they've lost the female vote.

Oh yes. Definitely. Watch that female vote drain away.

To wonder which way the vote will go?
Malarandras · 27/03/2024 15:54

How would an upper age limit on voting in a democracy work? Asking for a friend.

JassyRadlett · 27/03/2024 15:56

OP, no one really knows. We have a few indicators - polls, by-elections and the upcoming English local and mayoral elections.

Any of those things can be wrong. But all those things have been giving a very consistent, and fairly extreme, picture for a while now. They could all be wrong by orders of magnitude never seen before, or there could be a major shift caused by an external event or events.

The exact same way in which our lower age limit works. Why should a 90 year old be allowed to vote whilst a 16 year old shouldn’t?

concernedchild · 27/03/2024 15:57

To be fair to the PP, there is a huge issue in this country that the policies that benefit our ageing population also screw over the younger generations. My chances of owning a home have been screwed because of the boomers who bought property like it was going out of fashion. Something needs to change rather than allowing a section of the population ruin the future generations.

With the stupidity and ignorance of so many people in this country I wouldn’t be surprised in the slightest if the Torys got back in. In my opinion there should be an upper age limit on voting because of this

No - just a disgruntled Tory poster who thinks that they’re very clever!

Mumoftwo1312 · 27/03/2024 15:59

Or is this Hardyjoker deliberately refuting malone's post?

Araminta1003 · 27/03/2024 15:59

The main problem is that Central Government have far too much power and hands in heath, education etc and house prices all of which should be far more local. What we need is power in local politics and good local politicians who are not too ideological either way. When is this going to happen? Things will only get better when this happens. And the role of central government should be foreign policy and investment/help in local areas that are not thriving. I am so annoyed that such a huge amount of my taxes go to some central government blackhole. I want at least 30 per cent to go local. And yes I am sure there is a way of helping out poorer areas in a fair manner.

MagnetForDust · 27/03/2024 16:00

I wish! But alas Keir has zero charisma and his party aren't doing to well, bloody shame.

Because we live in a democracy and every person has an equal voice.

Why not just shoot them? At least they vote unlike a lot who cba

To say anyone voting Tory, the only viable party on the right, is stupid and ignorant suggests there is a mere trace of left wing in you.

Hoplolly · 27/03/2024 16:03

I'm a floating voter generally. I vote on issues that matter to me and the party that best represents this.

I want to see the Tories out but Labour need to get rid of Starmer. They need a better leader.

I am in a Tory area currently, Labour don't stand a chance and if I want to vote tactically, it has to be the Lib Dems.

Currently undecided. I fear we will have a hung parliament.

They didn’t buy it to spite you. They bought it because controls on renting property eere reduced.
Its enabled by the government not the ‘Boomers’

The ageism on this thread is shocking.

I don't think labour offer much. But im sick of the tories. I probably won't even bother voting. None of them care about me

If you're truly sick of the Tories you'll use your vote to get them out. Not bothering to vote is not a passive decision, it has consequences. If enough non-Tory voters decide they can't be bothered then they're collectively handing the election to the Tories.

I'm not a big fan of Kier Starmer myself but I will be voting Labour because it is the only realistic prospect of avoiding another Tory Government.
