To be furious with the Joke Party?

IClaudine · 27/03/2024 09:18

Jonathan Gullis a party chair.

The ridiculous, lying, AI generated videos with the American B movie voiceover.

Blaming the sick and disabled for the state of the economy.

Meanwhile, children are going to school hungry, in dirty clothes and tired as they are living in conditions that don't enable proper sleep. The NHS is crumbling.

The Tory government is no longer a functioning government. It is a corpse, shambling towards its final demise.

AIBU to be furious and sickened and to wonder how on earth anyone could now bring themselves to vote Tory?

Yes, and the voice over saying "when Khan seized power" - since when did being democratically elected mean seizing power?

I know! Makes it sound like there was a military coup we all forgot about 🤣

I thought this thread was going to be about the Monster Raving Loony party, and wanted to see why the OP was so angry with them.

Give over with this bullshit.

It was interesting last week that some section of the Tory party had done some research showing that they could cling into power if they replaced Sunak with Penny Mordaunt - which would scupper that.

You don't really though, do you? You just want to start a row and push your one-sided perspective.

I'd have thought your childish thread title "Joke Party" would mean anyone sensible who was considering voting Conservative wouldn't engage with you in this thread.

They know what a woman is though.

There’s a hierarchy of needs here. Let’s make sure everyone has their basic needs met and that public services are working. Then we’ll be in a position for better mental health support all round.

What would be sensible reasons to vote for the Conservatives?

WilmaFlintstone1 · 27/03/2024 12:32

I don’t like them and won’t vote for them. Sadly I’m not hopeful things will be much better under Labour. I know lots of people who will still vote Tory at the next election as they don’t like Starmer.

They are angry with the Conservative Party but not angry enough to look eksewhere

I won't be sharing on this thread - like many others, I suspect. But I have my reasons.

FFSNorman · 27/03/2024 12:36

Schools in a mess
NHS in a mess
Energy companies raking it in
Cost of Living Crisis
Brexit
Lies throughout Covid

but yeah, let’s vote on one issue that will not improve the lot of anyone in the country. Can you not see how obsessed you are to focus on that when there’s so much widespread carnage. It’s statements like ‘but they know what a woman is’ that do GC a disservice. If there were some logic applied, not just ‘but trans’ to every issue they might get more understanding.

That's the thing, nobody wants to share reasons to vote Tory other than Labour will be worse or Labour doesn't know what a woman is.

Why wouldn't you want to share the positive things the Tories have done to make you vote for them again?

Blackcats7 · 27/03/2024 12:39

If only they were just a joke and not reality.
I think you will still get a section of (mostly wealthy) mumsnetters who will vote for them no matter what.
As regards the trans/ women’s rights issue this is very important to me but I can’t and won’t vote tory on a single issue only. I can’t put that above people being able to afford to live and the nhs.

I was taught in a series of mobile classrooms plonked on the playing fields at primary and in the playgrounds at high school.

So was I (my school burned down) but never a tent.

What's the point? Everyone's different, and it's pretty clear that you don't want to be convinced so what works for me won't work for you.

In the same way as you won't convince me that a vote for the talent-free front bench that is Labour won't bankrupt the country.

Oh, maybe it was childish of me, but they really are turning themselves into the joke party with the two videos they have released, they are beyond parody. Not to mention Gullis being made a deputy party chair.

Interesting you should say that about the economy. When asked "Which political party would be the best at handling the economy" 25% of people said Labour , 19% Conservatives. 27% said they don't know. So not a ringing endorsement for any party, really.

Which political party would be the best at handling the economy?

Here is a list of problems facing the country. Could you say for each of them which political party you think would handle the problem best? The economy in general

I am not trying to convince you of anything.

If you have done well under the Tory government it is understandable that you would vote for them again.

It would make more sense than basing it on a perceived talent-free Labour bench.

He’s just awful … really barrel scraping, but, there is nobody left…they are leaping from the sinking ship.

After the election the Conservative Party need to work out what they stand for, and spend some time rebuilding - you can’t keep the “fringe” Right happy.

True.

'You can't compromise with the far right. Never , never , never. '

Ted Heath , Conservative Prime Minister.

PastorCarrBonarra · 27/03/2024 13:40

I’m not voting Conservative but I think that maybe folk with an approachable, community-minded, assiduous Tory MP would vote “for him/her” rather than for the party iyswim.

Sadly Johnson got rid of many of that breed of Tory MP. I wonder what calibre of candidates the Tories have waiting in the wings to replace the MPs who are standing down.

63 Tory MP's are standing down at the next GE, many respected ones amongst them.

I would love to hear from people who are still going to vote Tory. Even the most die hard Tory voters seem to be turning away from them.

Who/what else is there to vote for? I've seen something about a Reform party maybe I'd vote for them.

You are correct and this will happen in my constituency. An MP who is considered 'one of the good guys' (despite selling out the Remain-voting constituency over Brexit).
Those that voted for this MP last time won't take any personal responsibility for their Tory vote enabling known-liar Johnson to get into power, enabling Truss to seriously damage the economy (and my mortgage rate) and enabling unelected Sunak to deliberately delay an election until the very last minute while knowingly harming the country and its citizens. A vote for that 'good guy' Tory MP is another vote for another term of ConKip.
