I saw my neighbours bringing food shopping in today

The big shop

A post on another thread here reminded me. I often think about when on earth do my neighbours do food shopping as I never see them bringing food shopping in…ev😂
Whereas I’m always laden with bags
I wfh so notice lots, no delivery vans and never see (aside from this time) neighbours bringing food bags in.

Is this just me and my street

I never notice.

I have a big Sainsbury's delivery once a week, as I struggle to access shops due to agoraphobia.

My next door neighbour's side door faces mine, and she stands there every time without fail watching me take it all in.

We do our food shopping at 6am. Our neighbours would probably say the same thing about us.

I would definitely notice a 6am shop. I could tell you exactly when all my neighbours leave for work/come home- except the previously mentioned nurse.

KnitnNatterAuntie · 26/03/2024 08:46

I have the reverse situation . . . . there is a family of four living opposite me (Mum, Dad & 2 primary school age children) and every week they have a supermarket delivery and a delivery from a frozen food company. Both deliveries seem to take a time so there must be quite a lot of stuff going into their house.

Then, about 5 times a week, they have meal deliveries in the evenings

I often wonder what is in their supermarket deliveries . . . . !

However, they probably think the same about me! I live alone but sometimes have a big supermarket delivery. My family visit me every few weeks and there are a lot of them . . . . the most I have catered for at one time is 17!

I've been known to have deliveries from different shops turn up together. It certainly confused the drivers.

😂😂 she’s not had that happen yet, though I guess if one got delayed it might make it interesting. It’s a weird single track road to our corner, so someone would be getting blocked in by a rival.

Ofcourseshecan · 26/03/2024 08:58

All right, OP. Now you’ve made me realise I’ve never seen mine bringing in shopping either. And now I come to think of it, never seen takeaways arriving either. We’ve lived here for years and have chatted to most of them. Hmmm ……

Do all you people who never see your neighbours carrying shopping sit staring out of your windows all day long? Confused
Do you really expect to see what happens on your street at every point of the day and night?
There was a poster on here yesterday wondering could she leave her house to go to the shops at 9.30pm, or would that disturb her neighbours?
What's wrong with you all?!!

How??

Pottedpalm · 26/03/2024 09:00

My neighbour has beautiful gardens front and back. I often see her tending to the back garden, but never the front. Both have lawns and mixed herbaceous borers requiring a great deal of care. So when does she do the front??

Atichen · 26/03/2024 09:06

I feel like I'm missing the point a bit ...but I've never seen my neighbours looking out the window at me when I bring the weekly shop in...so I assume they have seen me bringing shopping in

DyddDewiSant · 26/03/2024 09:19

I see my neighbours unloading their cars and supermarket delivery vans outside. I sometimes even do some shopping for them!
Sometimes I see them in the supermarket and we have a chat........shocking!!!!

Mummyofbananas · 26/03/2024 09:20

I've only ever seen my neighbour across the hall bring in shopping- that's obviously part of the simulation haha- I live in a block of flats and there's at least 45 houses all sharing one car park and I've never seen anyone else bring their shopping in in the whole time I've lived here!

BeMyGuest · 26/03/2024 09:22

No I never look out of the window to be nosy. It’s just general coming and going. I saw my next door neighbour yesterday as her driveway adjoins mine and she was getting in her car and I was getting in mine and we had a quick chat. Neighbour opposite I saw this morning as it is bin day. Anyway still not seen anyone with their shopping and it’s definitely odd as I am always bringing food shopping in to my house.

Theothername · 26/03/2024 09:31

I used to do my big shop in the 24 hour Tesco after settling the baby after a night feed. So much easier than wrangling all the dc round a supermarket.

SusieKin · 26/03/2024 09:37

I wonder the same thing about my neighbours. I feel like I’m always bringing supermarkets bags in and I never see any of my neighbours come home with shopping. They must all be eating out all the time !!

Beautiful3 · 26/03/2024 09:47

I know alot of people who literally pick up something each day, for dinner and get takeaway/eat out at the weekend. They seem to rarely do a week's shop. When I have my supermarket food delivered, they usually comment on how many bags we have?! I only order enough for 7 days, for a family of 4 and a dog. We don't eat out or have takeaways (unless it's someones birthday). Apparently most people only order a few bags of food?!!!

Kerryoh · 26/03/2024 09:58

I never see my neighbour taking any food into his house, just the odd bottle of chianti. He has plenty of guests though. I see them arrive but I never see them leave.

Kerryoh · 26/03/2024 10:00

He does have a veg patch where he grows beans and things.

In fact the reason I know is because those vans make a certain sound when reversing and I like on a extremely quiet street.

Do you think he is using his guests as fertiliser?

😂😂 Call the police!

ThrillhouseVanHouten · 26/03/2024 10:26

Almost everyone in our street gets a supermarket delivery. They seem quite loyal to their respective brands. I enjoy going grocery shopping but we occasionally get an Ocado so we look posh to the neighbours.

The house opposite me had a canabis grow. The police raided was very entertaining. The photographs had to be seen to be believed. Dozens of huge pots, all full of compost and what must have been a couple of van loads of electrics. Never saw them carry so much as a watering can into the house, I don't think the guy that stayed there even had a car.

The house next to ours was a cannabis farm also! There were loads of plants, pots, bags of soil, lights, water sprays etc.
