I saw my neighbours bringing food shopping in today

The big shop

A post on another thread here reminded me. I often think about when on earth do my neighbours do food shopping as I never see them bringing food shopping in…ev😂
Whereas I’m always laden with bags
I wfh so notice lots, no delivery vans and never see (aside from this time) neighbours bringing food bags in.

Is this just me and my street

I missed a police raid
Was having a break from work and saw a police dog van so had a nosy out the window for a bit then had to go back to work at the other side of the house

Mentioned it to my neighbour who was Confused
"Did you not SEE all the police?"
No... I was the other side
"But... they were there too!"

Apparently I was oblivious to the fact I missed an entire raid on a house with what seemed to be a dog unit, armed response, and as my neighbour put it "I didn't know we had that many police in the town"

Chances of me spotting people with shopping is slim Grin

My neighbour leaves for Sainsbury's at precisely 7am every Monday and has done for decades.

It amuses me.

I hear her front door close, glance at the clock and smile to myself.

We are very different people.

PansyOatZebra · 26/03/2024 01:46

And…?? this seems a very dull thing to post

DanielGault · 26/03/2024 01:54

I think 'the big shop' is much less common now. It's funny though, the thread has brought up lots of memories of 'the big shop' and the rituals associated with it. Certain smells too. Funny...

I have never seen my neighbour leave her house, any further than the driveway, by foot.

She can walk and even has a PT visit at home
We have local shops and she has friends locally.
She drives everywhere. The car exits the drive and is sometimes back within 2 minutes.

🤷‍♀️

treacledan71 · 26/03/2024 03:28

I wfh some days and sit at back of the house so miss things. I am a naturally nosey person though. One of my old retired neighbours commented to me I was always shopping and have a weekly big shop delivery too. Don't drive so did get DH take me for top ups as hungry teenager. She told me too that the person a few doors up has lots of take outs lol. We reckon she had a log note book.

PlumbersWifey · 26/03/2024 03:37

I get weekly Tesco shop delivered and so does across the road. Next door get weekly Ocado shop delivered. Across the road and 1 down has Iceland delivery. None of my neighbours go hungry there is always a food shop on our road.

I do. Frequently.

I even (gasp!) chat to mine on the doorstep!

Some posters have strange interests.

😅😆😂 I don’t see my neighbors, but I do hear them.

sunnylanding · 26/03/2024 04:27

So weird....I've never realised til now but my neighbours opposite have also never been seen bringing in shopping! I've lived here 23 years 🤦‍♀️😂

I wonder if my neighbours think this about me.

I get my shopping delivered and as I am awake early I have the 6-7am slot.

I'm on a cul-de-sac so out of my neighbours one has ASDA deliver every Saturday at 12.00 noon. One has food brought to her by family and another only goes to the corner shop.

Natsku · 26/03/2024 04:56

My neighbours across the road's front door is in my direct line of sight when I'm sat at my computer so whenever I'm on my computer I see all their comings and goings, including bringing shopping in, getting wood delivered (that was a fun one to watch, they had to move their cars to get the wood trailer onto their driveway. It was a convoluted process), taking their bins out.

Sometimes they wave at me watching them (and I wave back, of course)

No one would see me bringing my shopping in though, as my house is back to front so the front door is on the side facing the back garden rather than the side facing the road.

JMAngel1 · 26/03/2024 05:24

Nor hang washing on the line - it's too lower class ( I like to lower the tone!)
Nor put charity bags out - I usually put out at least a couple of bags if there is a collection. Too low class to have "stuff"!
Nor wash their cars outside their house - they have valet services.

EatingTillIDie · 26/03/2024 05:24

Next time I've popped out for a cheeky Costa/Maccy D while wfh I'll relax a bit then! I always go from car to house in super speed stealth mode from the shame. Turns out the neighbours can't see me anyway!

tuvamoodyson · 26/03/2024 05:26

Neighbours will see me bringing in my food shop, but never takeaways, we never have a takeaway

Hiker50 · 26/03/2024 05:40

I'm always dragging in food shops. I've never seen my neighbours doing this. I presume they just don't eat.

DaisyMcFacey · 26/03/2024 05:59

You sound like one of my neighbours,OP. She also WFH and often resembles a meercat, stretching her neck to look out of her office (bedroom) window! She can probably tell you everyone’s work patterns and what they were wearing, what time they put the bins out, how many Amazon deliveries too place down the close, etc. She’s a bloody great Neighbourhood Watch though! 😆

As for the food shop, I work quite close to a supermarket so do a daily shop while I’m on my lunch break, so never do a large weekly shop. My neighbour is probably wondering what I bring home everyday in my posh hessian bag for life!

Kalevala · 26/03/2024 06:06

I don't see people bringing in shopping. It takes seconds to bring in bags from the boot so easily missed.

I only know of one neighbour like this, she’s a 10am ON THE DOT, big Sunday shopper and she’s also done this for years! Timed to precision even down to when she returns and which cupboards she bangs (must be the tin cupboard) I think she lives for these Sundays!

Kalevala · 26/03/2024 06:13

Smaller families? Two big bags covers us for the week. Easy to miss.

Is a triple 3 single tall Pax units or 3 double pax wardrobes? Couldn’t picture it 😂

Its looks like a double plus a single, but i cant be sure. Unfortunately I didn't see them bringing in the boxes.

Sartre · 26/03/2024 06:44

I guess it’s because I don’t spend my life staring out of the window waiting for someone to take shopping in but not sure. Also never seen it. NDN’s have definitely seen us take the shopping in a few times but never the other way around.

Fingeronthebutton · 26/03/2024 07:08

You say you wfh, you need to get out more 🤦🏼‍♀️
