To be offended by these stickers on the back of a van?

RosaMoline · 24/03/2024 11:40

So I was on a day trip with a friend yesterday and this van was up ahead of us in the traffic.
I’m no prude, but I think these are really offensive (you may need to zoom in)
Is it even legal to drive around like this?

To be offended by these stickers on the back of a van?

@LuluBlakey1

because I'm an adult, I don't get upset by stickers.

bigger  to fry in the the 'upset' stakes than by some twat putting stickers in his car rear window.

Trying to call women immature because we don't like seeing a misogynist air his filthy attitude in the street is fucked up.

Begsthequestion · 24/03/2024 18:43

I hope someone slashes his tyres, suffragette style

NortieTortie · 24/03/2024 18:46

Porn sick 🤢

Gagagardener · 24/03/2024 18:47

I watched detransitioner Carol's video yesterday that dealt with what she had discovered in trans support groups. (It's on the FWR thread). I was struck by her observation that many people in the groups accepted no boundaries to their behaviour. This is the same thing.

Social norms even now do not see this as unproblematic; but we do not know how to deal with behaviour like this. This man with a van believes sees no problem with covering his rear window with obscene sexual images and language, so he does it. IANAL, but I am with @RosaMoline in my reaction to this.

I saw one that said ''my other toy has tits' the owner is an absolute prick, revving car , driving to fast into residential car park.so no surprise at the sticker.

That’s awful. That’s a potato in the exhaust pipe stuff.

@Begsthequestion

oh FFS. I wasn't calling anyone immature.

she asked why people weren't upset by it.

my point was that I don't get upset by stickers! I think the van driver is a massive twat, but I'm not upset by stickers.

After John Worboys why in the everloving fuck would you want that on your vehicle?! It's beyond tasteless. Sure, all the stickers are gross & I'd be livid if it were my son driving that van, but anything relating to dodgy taxis is beyond the pale for me.

As a thought experiment, how would any of the 'it's just bantz' feel if this van pulled up alongside you whilst you were walking alone at night? Or somewhere remote?

Edited

I would be alarmed if any vehicle pulled up beside me if it was late at night or I was in a remote area, stickers would be irrelevant.

What's worse he has a gf ...I don't know how she could be with him not only with that on the car there's other things I've seen ,they live in an opposite block.he is such a vile fucker.

OooScotland · 24/03/2024 19:04

…horrible image of a fat dick dripping semen top right…

Thanks. I was wondering what that was.

Offensive, definitely but probably not illegal. Not being familiar with porn sites I didn’t know ‘Fake Taxi’ and it does cross my mind that it should be illegal for the word ‘TAXI’ to be displayed on an unlicensed vehicle, for what I think are obvious reasons.

You wrote "because I'm an adult, I don't get upset by stickers."

What did you mean then, if you weren't trying to say those of us who are offended by misogynistic stickers are immature?

Just own it.

Everything is Valid: A Detransitioner speaks Everything is Valid: A Detransitioner speaks

That is the thread with the video I referred to.

@Begsthequestion I am interested that you see the stickers as merely stickers. Although you read their message, you dismiss the driver as a
'twat'. Can I ask if you do not think his attitudes/behaviour as problematic? Or is it perhaps that you don't feel there is anything you can do about it?

Rosesanddaisies1 · 24/03/2024 19:11

“Is it legal” 😂 my god you must live a sheltered life

You're replying to the wrong person. And I'm not interested in your link.

Openup · 24/03/2024 19:12

That is absolutely vulgar. I’m very laid back as a person, but I’d be sending this to the police as I think that most people would find it offensive.

TheHateIsNotGood · 24/03/2024 19:15

It's just an ironic comment on 'today', depends on your own perspective if you find it funny, don't care, etc and I don't doubt that the 'van' also considered that some would get all 'riled up' by their own dint.

It's a Harry Enfield Van, in your face, easy to look down on but still very descriptive of the 'day'.

Maybe I'm tripping or something but I can't get what you're trying to say here.

ShouldIbeLeftWithLess · 24/03/2024 19:34

I would absolutely be sending this to the police. But I have two daughters and they are growing up in a world with enough misogyny as it is, and shouldn't have to be part of this person's views and "humour" whilst we're driving to the bloody shops or school etc.!

MaybeRevisitYourWipingT3chnique · 24/03/2024 19:43

I'm all for genuine freedom of speech, but this appears to be very much in the territory of hate speech.

If, instead of blatant misogyny, he was displaying nasty and threateningly racist words, themes and pictures on each sticker, not one person would be saying "Well, it's your choice to be offended; he's not doing anything wrong".

Adults don't use tiny fish emojis in messages. Braindead people do on social media.

It is what the stickers represent that offends me- an attitude towards women that is increasingly common amongst men, particularly younger men. We shouldn't be ignoring it. It is something to be upset and angry about and is an enormous step backwards in the treatment of women in society. Men like him have always existed but their numbers had dropped as it became clear over the last 30 years that attitudes like this were unacceptable and were challenged. That is no longer the case; they aren't challenged any longer, they are seen as much more acceptable again and we'll pay the price for that. Teenage boys and young men often have disgusting very sexualised, abusive, attitudes to women which they share openly.

It wouldn't be if hate speech legislation included women. But it doesn't because we aren't important and, this bit stuns me, the lawmakers appear to believe that because hate speech towards women is so widespread, it would be impossible to police.

That's right; religion, race, gender expression are all treated as protected characteristics for the purposes of hate speech but sex isn't. It's a neat demonstration that the system is in fact the patriarchy. But when women are all LOL 😂 about it, there isn't much hope.

That's a VW T4, an awesome van.

Owned by an utter weapon clearly.

T4's for the win! (just not this one. Was hoping it was a caravelle but note the side panels)

Londonrach1 · 24/03/2024 20:00

Not sure it's legal due to his vision.

Can't care anything about the stickers...just if they stopping the driver seeing another car

don't need to see out the rear window. lots of vans don't have 1 at all

CarpetSlipper · 24/03/2024 20:09

Yanbu. I saw similar on someone’s work van recently. I can’t imagine he gets much work driving round advertising that he’s the world’s biggest knobhead. I actually had a similar thought - it shouldn’t be legal to be so openly misogynistic.

hot2trotter · 24/03/2024 20:11

Tasteless and misogynistic? Definitely. Would it offend me? No.
Would it bother me enough to make a post on MN about it? Definitely not.
